This game is great and all but I can't believe how much shit chunks the diplomacy blows in this game. I mean, I have played many RTS games and this is rediculous. How the hell am I supposed to beat 9 AI PCs on the large map?..which I would like to because I love long and epic games..when 4 hours into it they all some how for shits and giggles are all allied togehter(yet still ask for requests to attack one another) and 4-9 of them will rush my planets TOGETHER completely destroying me while killing a few of my nerve cells in the process and frustrating me...this is all on the easiest setting too. Making an Ally can happen but keeping him is more of a chore and not worth it as he will request pointless stupid shit every 2 minutes. Somehow the AI cheats and makes more money and crystals than me as well..this is proven by the helpful bar graph given to you after the game ends when comparing to their planets and mines they still make more. I don't know what to say other than thank the spaghetti monster for the locking teams feature because the AI on diplmacy FFA start is broken. They ally and gang up on you a few hours into the game. I had a huge fleet with many level 6+ capital ships and all ...doesn't matter when 6 of them arrive at your home planet at the same time.
Than again I am here less for a rant and more to see maybe if I am doing something wrong.
This game would be epic if the AI would leave me alone when I leave it alone unless it has aggression issues against me...but gang up on me with the other nine players doesn't even make sense. When the AI treats you like the primary target human player and not just another AI that it is playing with than this is when it becomes a very poor RTS AI.
ARG, locking teams forever till crap is fixed in patch.
I agree, but it seems like it will not change in the near furure. the first mini x-pack is to flush out defences while the 2'nd should be about the diplomacy.
but imo the should start with fixing the AI, it's really bad compared to other rts games
Well, while it's hard to disagree with anything specific said above, I thinkthe diplomacy does add to the game, and does allow players to build allies and thereby win games that would not otherwise be possible. I believe the current diplomacy option in Sins is better than the diplomacy options in other RTS games I've played. But if you don't like it, then lock the teams.
On the subject of cheats, I think it's well known the AI gets extra incomes on hard & unfair levels, but again that's pretty standard in most RTS games, again if you want a level playing field chose lower level opponents.
I get tag teamed by two + opponents with some lage fleets(even though they are rated lower on the fleet level then me after the game) and this is ALL ON EASY.
IF the 9 AIs ganged up on you, you would be dead in like 30 minutes.Go over the replay and see that, in fact, they DO battle each other quite a lot. AI players tend to try to be everywhere, sending stuff in all directions.
I had a me vs 9 AIs game on a Huge Random Multi star map. After like 5 hours I did become attacked by the 6 remaining AIs (I got rid of the 3 others in that time) at once. But I did have Highly Attuned Sensors (Vasari playa) and I did see that while large fleets batter on the doors of my empire, a dozen more roam in the neighboring system. I looked over the replays and they were fighting quite alot.
Lastly, the AIs don't "request pointless stupid shit every 2 minutes". When your relations are low, they request resources. When your relations are high, they choose an AI player who you actively fight and request that you kill some of its shit. And those missions aren't issued every 2 minutes, they have 30 minute durations, which is quite long unless you are asleep.
My suggestion: use teh freakin diplomacy screen moar.- Look over all missions and complete all "give meh 200 metal pl0x" missions, cause they're easy and make you less likely to be poundered.- Choose one or two Allies and try to keep them. This will mean killing a few ships/structures of another AI every half an hour. This is doable in a Huge 10 player game, I did it, you can too.
Accept the fact you HAVE to L2Diplomacy. You simply can't take 9 AIs on your chest at once, if only because you have your fleet size capped on the same level they do. But going against 6 AIs with 2 Allies is very doable, simply because twose two allies will occupy 2-3 other AIs, leaving you with 3-4 enemies which, trust me, never send ALL of their ships against you unless you attack their homeworld.
So: use diplomacy, keep allies => win. Ignore diplomacy = choose to have everyone warring with you => u fail.
i find on easy i can beat a fleet twice the size of mine in some cases because an easy ai dosent do much research so my ships do a lot more dmg and are much harder to kill
also if im defending ive got planet defences and culture on my side
if i want an ally i just lock teams but put me and someone else both on team one 3v3v3 is quite nice
Ok, with the 1.05 patch the AI is far more easier and I can actaully expand. Strange but it is much better now.
After reading this I was going to ask if you're on 1.1 or not. Now I see you weren't even at 1.05!
If you really want a more balanced game with more effective AI, get 1.11
