I almost stand up against Bear cavalry in this game. Personaly, I have no dissafection for anyone that want it but I have for the way that was used to propose it. When I saw this suggestion for the first time it seemed to me one like many others like it should be; or should it be better called just a wish since it does not aim for the game desenvolment? But anyway, I thought that was just ok.
It's ok that someone create a topic and puts on the title: "Please, have chocobos in this game ". He is probably personaly fisured by chocobos and would like that in the game, then he makes a topic to tell it and see other people reactions and if they would also like Chocobos. He say how he feels that is cool, players give theirs and that should be the end of it. At least he is sincere, direct and isn't manipulative.
But that is not what a couple of guys that want Bear cavalry in this game choosed to do. They have been trying to disseminate it throughout the forum in a political way. It have gone so far has to make public Avatars editing the official image of a mounted soldier, to mount a Bear instead. That could be ok if it was edited to mount other more creatures, but it was only the Bear and variations of Bears, because the motive of that is to promote more the Bear mount image and they are still doing that(and trying to convince others to want it). It's being boring to even read 'Bear' around here.
I'll be short about this. My protest is that because someone or a couple or whatever "loudly" asks for what they want, especially regarding something that has nothing to do with the game desenvolment, they should not be overheared if not even heared at all.
It should be the contrary even, has the Chocobo player was much more polite in trying to have what he wants. Its a huge mistake to support the "loud" over the more polite. Actualy many people are yet more polite to never or continualy propose particular issues like this, has obvious, you can find people fond of Linch Kings, Hydras, Mounted Dragons, Pegasi, Elves, Orcs, Unicorns, Hobbits and they will not stress it since they know probably more than a million other players that also disire things will be playing the same game and because there is no place for this.
[I beg developers if they ever think to listen about objects that players want, to please make a offical section, or even a topic or even yet a poll with many creatures so everyone can participate. Just please don't hear those and think the others don't have particular wishes they would want, because many have; Its just that they understand how trivial it is for the conjuncture, but would gladly say so if it was asked or if they had a specific place for it.]
Now pretentious assumed discussion topics get opened because of this:
(Why pretentious? Because I and most that could, didn't participate on this for it to ever be thought this way. But is what a couple of guys are making to sound like)
"Bear Calvary is to EoM as Pink Space Ponies is to SoaSE?"
And the guys that scream what they want, create this illusion:
More very pretentious stuff. No, it stayed, because of what I said in "[]" above and not everybody have the time or the will to keep spreading what they want over and over.
To the guy that wrote that: That is so false, that many games like MMORPG's mounts for exemple do not feature Bears (and have many types) and there even isn't a sighlty strong wish for it, it is just happening in this forum. Why exacly so? That's the motive I did this. That might be what you and a few strongly like, and probably you and a couple more are just the kind of 'blind follower' type. It came just random, It stayed on you because you gave to much attention to what some people - that want it so much - said a lot, has they wanted to.
There never happened a democratic evaluation has of what creature (mount or not) or unit is prefered within players, not to count many others are still to come.
I even feel against Bear cavalry in this game, not because I don't like bears, but because of the atittude they took towards it; how loudly have some been proposing it. I just beg developers to make it democratic (like when what extra mount to add or something) if you ever want to listen to something like that, don't take this couple of guys attitude has speaking for the utmost wish of many, thats not the case.
If FlyGuy is trolling then it's some of the most awesome character based comedy I've ever seen. Otherwise, well, I just don't know.
What I do know is that, in the name of science (and humour), the forums must split into pro-bear and anti-bear factions at this point. And also you people need to start spelling 'calvary' right: remember your ursine saviour's noble sacrifice.
Ok, now it's obvious that the language-barrier is part of the problem here. You might know what the words mean, but you clearly don't understand the meaning of any of the posts that you are referencing. I am going to put this in simple words:
HE AND EVERYBODY ELSE WAS JOKING, And you didn't get the jokes or the sarcasm. Probably because your english isn't very good. Everybody who wants bears also wants horses and tigers and pegasi and others!
And seriously, all this crap about how there should be a democratic process is ridiculous.
To rise something has a maskot, there should be at last a small democratic process, yes. Also, a maskot here ins't like a football maskot, because the other integrants arent the same thing. But here is like taking an Asiatic to represent human kind. It can't be it, It's excluding the others, but if there was a small democratic process, that'd be acceptable has fair.
It can even be the maskot but thats all. Don't make the Bear sound the greatest or the best, at least try to not do so. Get out of this "one" thing. Because we have preferences, don't mean we should be putting that has superior over the others. It means we like it more and also not only our utmost preference should be praised has many others can also be fun. What is this with this "one" thing... I don't have any mount I wouldn't like.
(Anyway about the quote above, wasn't joke. But I know he was talking about what he thinks about the real animal, not exacly the game mount(or that it would be stupid there). What I tryed to say in the topic is clear, I didn't made this because of any of that (nothing personal involved). Stop picking these old things, noone is really arguing anymore)
....Unless Stardock comes to us and says, "Decide on an official mascot for the game!" then a democratic process is retarded. If Stardock ever does do something like that, they will probably put up a poll and do it that way. But just because an idea becomes popular in the forums doesn't mean it should suddenly be required to pass some democratic test.
To show you why what you're saying is stupid, I give you this. Many of us are vocal in our support of bear cavalry. You think that this is bad behavior. But there are other people who are just as vocal about other things (for example Vandenberg and Pegasi). So it's okay for one person to vocally support something, but it's bad behavior and unfair for a lot of people to?
I get the impression that your idea of the world is My Little Pony, where everything is fair and equal and happy. You're acting like a third-grader. You're upset that people like bear cavalry, and talk and joke about them a lot, so you ask that the developers ignore us? How childish can you be?
So you get to decide that it's okay for the bear to be the mascot but that's all? Why does anything need to be approved by you? Nothing at all on these forums needs to be approved by anyone, except by moderators for inappropriate material. Anybody here can say or do whatever they want as long as it doesn't violate the terms we agreed to by signing up to Stardock's forums. That includes making bears sound like the "greatest or the best." If I think bears are the greatest and the best, why shouldn't I say so?
What I think is most ironic about this whole thread is that if we brought this to a poll, "Should people be allowed to talk about bear cavalry they way they do?" I'll bet you the result would be a resounding "YES."
I don't know why I took the time to respond to this thread. It's a complete waste of time. Nothing anybody says makes it through your head. You either don't understand what it is you're complaining about, or you're you just acting like a 5-year old (or both).
I'm not even going to read all this thing you wrote or bother with you. Just this I got:
"It can even be the maskot but thats all. Don't make the Bear sound the greatest or the best, at least try to not do so."
"So you get to decide that it's okay for the bear to be the mascot but that's all? Why does anything need to be approved by you?"
??? I was considering the fact, (not saying I allow anything, are you crazy?) since it is not yet (has I know of) officialy a maskot. I'm not going to reply you, has you sound very ignorant. You are just trying to turn anything into trash and trow at me, only being mad to loose time with this. There wasn't even this ugly level of argumentation happening anymore, don't be ridiculous.
Ha ha ha, this thread is amazing Kudos to you all!
Don't encourage them.
I wonder why world peace is nothing but a shattered dream?
Ya, agreed this is amusing, and I like how the fight between the "Bear" and "No Humour" camp is spreading into several other posts.
I been forum lurking here and at GC:2 for some time. And this is my take on whats going on:
Flyguy7 seems to be missing the joke, nobody is FORCING the devs to put anything they don't want in.
NOBODY is Brow beating other forum members into liking Bears. It just become a sort of running joke. A bit like the "All hail the Frog" thing thats going on. But then again even that moment has got some people questioning the motivation behind it.
And Flyguy7 seems to be one of the few (if not the only person) who is offended by it.
At first i though this thread was a light hearted but , all though amusing for onlooker, it has become incresingly a personal crusade. I think the only way that the OP will be satisifed is if a censorship program went through the forum and removed any mention of 'Bear Calavry' or 'Rawr' or any image that could resemble a bear.
That being said I like bears, i don't see why I(as the worlds most inactive poster) or anybody else should not be allowed to express such opionon, whether as a joke or as a serious suggestion.
Nor do i mind any other suggestion, wheter they be troll throwers, choccabo riders, or pot belly pig calvary .
Anywho back to lurking.
Sure, it's ok for me because I support Pegasi, and who in their right mind could be against them?
Actually that's not true. I'm offended by the heretics who can't see that magnificence of the Pegasi and have converted to the false faith that is bear cavalry.
Luckman supports my lone Pegasi crusade. *sniff*
Has hell frozen over?
PS. your use of colours gives me eye cancer.
Well, after reading this thread, I don't wonder anymore...
---------------
Oh, and as for the topic. I don't get it, seriously. I really don't understand the problem. But then, I think nobody else does.
Maybe I feel intimidated by Luckmann's posts and I'm just too much of an asshole to notice?
This is weird.
Personally, and joking aside... I would like to limit fantasy mounts to traditional creatures:
Horses, Elephants, Wargs....and any other mythical beast that traditonally gallops on all fours or sixes!
For Hero mounts, well thats another matter. Griffons, Dragons, Wyverns...etc etc all would be exceptable to me.
Would Giant Spiders fall into either of those categories Anomander? I likes ma giant spidies
I vote against limiting anything at all in the game to tradition, just for the sake of adhering to tradition. Many traditions exist for a reason (sometimes one idea stands above all others, for whatever reason). Others are simply due to lack of creativity in that area or mere circumstance. The ones that exist for a reason should be adhered to, unless somebody comes up with a revolutionary, promising, and as-yet unseen idea. The others should be consulted as guides, but not as restrictions. I, for one, would love to see non-traditional mounts (along-side many of the traditional ones). Almost any fantasy game will feature most of the traditional mounts (AoW, for example, features almost every one of the ones you just mentioned). When every game/movie/book of the genre features the same things over and over, I get tired of them - I want to see something new! Whether that be bears ( ) or giant pot-bellied pigs ( ).
Giant Kittens?! Both new AND adorable!
I'm happy just with horses. Anything else is a bonus. Specially if done well and for a good reason.
Giant rats/mice for mounts?
Oooow giant rats would be good Anything small rendered unexpectedly giant is neat!
8, 10 legs should be included too....
I would guess the ride on a giant spider would be the most comfortable yet. Though the trusty Fire attack are their weakness.
They are the Cadilac of fantasy mounts It's like riding on air!
The fantasy mounts that are like riding on air are the ones where you're actually riding on air.
You mean like riding an Air Elemental? ..that WOULD be comfy, although potentially blustery, it might muss up your wizard's haircut (I'm assuming you'd have to be a wizard to ride any kinda elemental) .. unless your wizard styled his hair with magic! Man, magic haircuts should TOTALLY be in the game! Your essence should be divided between your casting power, your city expansion, your hero recruitment... and the awesome power of your magical bouffant! By the end game your hair should be so portentous and towering it casts the darkest of shadows across your empire and beyond! Gaze yea mortals upon the wonderous hair of infinity and lament for your time is surley at an end!
Miniature giant space hamsters. Discuss.
<Obligatory Minsc quotations/>
I really, really like the Skaven from Warhammer fantasy. They're just one of the most wonderfully unique factions in any fantasy anywhere, and twisted in an (ironically) very human way: rabid rat fanatics anyone? They're even sort of sympathetic in an underdog (underrat?) sory of way. I don't know if rats should be mounts in the core game - maybe. If there's a well-done rat people mod or giant rat riding mod then I would add it to my games.
I totally agree dude I LOVE those little guys, I really hope someone does a decent version of modding them in as I'd love to have them in the game too. I have to say I'm actually pretty disappointed that there's only going to be 2 races (which basically are both human) in the game, I know there'll be 12 factions, which is nice.. but they're still all humans.. I think that may have been the one thing I liked most about MoM, I mean 14 races?! That's incredible variety right there I'm really hoping that there isn't a hard limit on how many starting channellers you can have in a game, cos I'd love to put together a game with all the different races from MoM plus some others like the Skaven, that would really feel like MoM2
Nezumi or Skaven, rats would be a nice addition.
We get 12 "human races" to play but i hope that Stardock will be nice enough to give us some extra parts to create non-humans whithin the game once it's released. Many people will want to create their own elves, dwarves, orcs,... as soon as they get their (virtual) hands on the game.
