Hey, I am working on a mod to add a new race. I want this race to have interplanetary fighters that can use phase space and do not need to have a carrier ship. I did this by changing the frigate class of ship to these special fighters. I changed the speed, weaponry and meshes of the frigates to look like fighters/bombers. To my dismay I found that they were fast but stopped and exchanged fire with other vessels just like a regular frigate. So is there any way to make the frigate fly around and strafe like a fighter/bomber or is it hardcoded into the game? Or is there another way of getting interplanetary fighters?

Yes you can! There is two abilities that you can use to achieve this. But it wont be fluid but you can get some cool movement ocassionallry like what you see in BSG. You know how they fire and keep moving while turning their front to the enemy while still firing while passing them up? To do this you need to give a ship two abilities first is the final attack ability which is found in the game reference files in gameinfo. Make sure to take out the part when it kill it self while it tries to ram the target.Also, make sure whithin the buff ability it can pass through the target and needs to face while targeting this ability. The second ability is the engine booster found on the kodiak ship. Look at the buff ability linked to the engine booster and find the same lines to face target and pass through the target make sure these are set to TRUE not FALSE.
Apply the ship speeds like the fighter and it should be some cool battles. They will stop stop somewhat are get stuck to big ships but its all I could do for now till IC can implement a better way or someone else finds a better way. Good luck!

or you could just rebalance the weapons placement and timing on ships. Ships already move to get their best shot at the opponent, whether it be direct frontal or broadside. It depends on where the greatest dps is at the time. Set the weapons at different points with different ranges and rate of fire. Either frontal or broadside. The ships will continuously move around to get their best angle of fire. This can probably be done to any ship that can hold more than one weapon system.
Yes but once the ships are in position...they just rotate on themselves my dear man..and that is way Kiedjor has added final thrust,etc!!! So they MOVE + They turn to get their best shot! Simply epic!!!

I have not had time to try it out yet due to a very busy week (and I do not think I will be able to untill this weekend ug... ) As for joining the team, what all does that involve? lol I am not sure I would be able to help much due to the fact that I am still new to modding. woring on tanker atm! Got the ability to work great but Im getting minidumps when it tried to apply the "onDeath" blow-up ! Damn
Edit: OHHH yeah finally got ability online (apparently game wont let you have 2 version of RevengeBounty) so now when your tanker gets busted...it blows up in a big ball of light and petroleum damaging ALL nearby
ships seem to move to a further range when missiles give the highest dps so far in the ships I've coded. Then they move closer when the wave cannons r on, then back out again when phase missiles r the highest dps. I just need to find a way to get the graphics not to show the huge pause though....
I've been replaying HW2 to get some ideas. All the ships in HW move and have cool moving turrets. Did anyone get the moving/tracking turret code working yet?
