Hi,
Sorry if this is a rant…hopefully not too much of one! Maybe somebody can help…hope so!
I have been deciding to buy Gal Civ 2 for a while now, after playing the demo, I decided to go ahead and buy it, never played a turn based game before, so looking forward to it. I noticed that the Ultimate edition was due out in a few days, so I waited and bought that – yay
I installed the game, no problems and then decided to grab the new 2.0 update as it adds lots to the game etc….the community seems very excited about it.
I want the best experience I can with my nice new shiny ultimate edition. I logged onto impulse and tried to update the game, I have Sins of Solar Empire and have updated it easily. The game was not listed under My Games, so figured I needed to register it first under impulse. So I typed my serial key in and selected game category, then clicked to choose game…..the list was blank?
After hours of re-installing impulse, the game, restarting computer etc etc…I have finally found out that the Ultimate edition can not be patched! It is not listed under supported games under the impulse game list.
I know people rant about impulse, but I don’t mind it and support from the community and the people who make Gal Civ and Sins is fantastic. Until now!
So that’s it then…nothing I can do, will have to stick with an out of date, unsupported version of a game and will have to spend money on Gal Civ 2 normal edition and buy all the expansions separately.
To be honest I doubt I will rush out and do this after they took my money for an unsupported game…it SHOULD be listed on the box! I wont play with an out to date version….anyhow 2.0 adds a lot!
I will find something else to take up my spare time. This may be a one of case….but I feel seriously let down!!!!!
Got an odd anomaly regarding the games.
I have Ultimate Edition and bought Endless Universe thinking there was additional content (yeah I'm a total idiot). However, I've updated Endless Universe to 2.0 and went to play it and got this:

Since I have both Ultimate Edition and Endless Universe, which serial number do I use?
this seems like a registration/activation issue, so I would contact support@stardock.com if I were you moreso since having both EU and UE seems rather unique ...
Well, I have just recieved Galciv II Ultimate for christmas and Lo and behold I find I cannot update it because it is not supported. This for me, is the first time I have ever purchased a game And, not been able to update it. I think this is completely unforgivable and sincerely hope, that this will be rectified ASAP.
Having read through the posts in this thread, it all seems very confusing, just as if one half doesnt know what the other half is doing. All I want is a straightforward answer. Are we going to get an update for Ultimate? and When are we going to get it?
you know it's really kalypso the root of the problem in this case, so if I were you I'll go rant about it on kalypso forums
it's not the only game I see that is "supported" by the distributor for the "local" region/country and so don't get as frequent updates ...
stardock on its side tries to get it right to be able to deliver updates
Yes.
No one knows.
The server that handles Impulse downloads and registrations took a crap yesterday, so it's irrelevant anyway. They're working on that first.
Well thats not bad, at least I got an answer to one of my questions, so thx for that. I'm sorry to go off on one, but it is just sheer frustration. I quess I'll just have to be patient.
At least, as other people have mentioned, I can still play the game and it is still a brilliant game, even without the update.
Appologies for offending anyone and lets hope for a speedy solution to this problem.
I dont think you can be faulted for complaining about this problem on the developers forum. Its very frustrating and some of us have been waiting quite some time now. I can see that others might be to blame, but the fix can really only come from one place... Anyway, hear is hoping the new year brings a fix for this sooner rather than later. My thinking is that it will be supported when the ultimate edition becomes available to download off Impulse anyway.
the full package is galactic civilization 2 Ultimate Bundle (not to be mistaken with Ultimate Edition ... albeit a little confusing...) https://www.galciv2.com/Purchase.aspx
Oh, see, I saw Ultimate and thought it was the same thing. Damn.
hey i feel your pain, i got galciv2 gold edition and im screwed too. plus mine has a ton of issues, i can only play for about 20 mins before my comp completely freezes. not sure if its vista or nvidia or the game itself...but it sure isnt my computer, its brand new, clean and slightly more powerful than the average pc. but ive done all i can. this game is going right back on ebay and ill stay far from stardock in the future.
you know, having problems with a game doesn't mean it's a problem with the game in itself
PC games are not console games, that is "plug and play" (heck that is not even longer true with titles like oblivion which has a ton of bugs even on consoles)
Last time I tried playing with GRID, and found out I had the correct driver installed but my problem was that the previous driver left some things around that did temper with proper functionning of my new driver for GRID (before you ask I uninstalled the previous driver set but that was obviously not enough) anyway ... what I mean is, if you really like the game for itself, then think about it twice, and wait a while otherwise you might just regret it.
sorry for the out of topic.
It Would be nice, if someone from Stardock could let us know what is happening with this patch. It's not much to ask for really. I just want to know that something is being done, as I'm now getting very frequent CTD's. I started playing the Twilight of the Arnor Campaign. I got through the first part with no problems, but in the second part I started getting CTD's every time I tried to attack one of the Yor planets. Then I now get CTD's every time I try to save the Game. This has now made that Campaign unplayable. I just got so fed up, I started playing a different game. I should not have to do this. Good money was paid for this game and it should be supported from the time of it's release.
Please will someone let us know if something is being done.
I did not have CTD in the campaign though I did not complete it. And please be aware that savegames are more often than not, NOT 100% compatible between versions.
And maybe it is, But I wont know until we get the update.
Whismerhill is there a reason you are so quick to defend? I mean I have still not bothered to play this game due to a lack of update. For the reason of, like you said, the save more than likely not transferring between them. I want to start the biggest game available for this, spend weeks being immersed in a universe and I have still not had the chance. I expect something, even if it's just news, in the new year. I would imagine most of the 'team' are currently on some kind of vacation. It does worry me that no official word in this thread of the front page has appeared in some time. Come on Stardock, help your fans out! Oh and I wont be selling the game, I want to play it FAR to much.
I'm always like that or nearly ...
It's just because I'm around, the community is really nice, the company is overall quite "nice", the game is nice and I just try to spread the word of what I know.
it seems people just make their mind themselves, which is ... nice really but sometimes you just need a little more info to decide on things
you won't know until you get the update OR until you try to fix the problem by hand with a little help from forum support and kalypso support (I nearly said stardock on this one, but since the game is supported by kalypso ... )
I'm not saying you should do it though, but it's your choice.
I would love to ask Kalypso what is happening with the update, but unfortunately my German is not that good and since the Kalypso forum is only in German, I guess Im stuffed.
I have however, sent an email to the Kalypso Team, asking them if they can shed some light on the problem. So I will await a response from them.
I'm determined to get an official response from someone, be it kalypso or Stardock.
I thought I would update you guys on a find I stumbled upon : https://forums.stardock.com/331423
the interesting post is here :
Thx for this info whismerhill, I have just read through this thread and it seems like things are going to be done soon, so thats good enough for me.
I thought as much, like I said in an earlier post. Lucky them!
Just got this version from gogamer after my order was delayed a month. I had been playing the vanilla version but wanted the expansions. It looks like the “any day now” line has been used for over a month. Buying Galactic Civilizations 2 without access to its patches is like buying a HD TV that cannot access HD programs. Sure, it’s a TV, but not what was promised or expected. Time to request a RA#. Thanks for the info.
Wow, I discovered this thread only after buying the Ultimate Edition, which was the only edition around. The retail stores here don't carry older titles.
I'll return this tomorrow. Won't be fiddling with GalCiv 2 anymore, I guess. Gosh, such issues. Going back to Sins of a Solar Empire. It's been a month since this problem was spotted, and still no resolution. I have the feeling this won't be resolved.
It will as soon as we get some lingering issues sorted. Would have been sooner if not for the Christmas holiday (the office here has been closed for the past two weeks).
That's a pretty serious overstatement. A great many users have been happily playing the exact same version (or less) than the GC2UL box for nearly a year since TA was released. There has been some delay in getting the patches available due to confusion with Kalypso and localization bugs, but as GC2EU was put up before the holiday, so too will GC2UL as soon as we can.
Hmm, I've been looking at buying GalCiv 2 for a long while, but I finally thought about getting round to it... but reading these issues with registration with the various European editions, I have no idea which to buy. Ideally I would buy the complete set off the Stardock website, so the devs got all the money, but since the world economy went to crap, $59.95 is a lot of GBP. So I'm not sure what version to get in the shops over here: either Endless Universe or the Ultimate Edition, I'm just worried that the issues with registering the Ultimate Ed. wont get ironed out What would you guys suggest I do? Wait until the Ultimate Ed. is sorted out or buy Endless Universe? Also, in case anyone is interested, what finally pushed me over to finally buying GalCiv were a couple of UK PC GAMER blogs published about GalCiv by one of the writers over the last couple of years which I re-read over the last two days... while I was procrastinating instead of writing by Law degree dissertations... oops (which I'm sure most of the people here know about, but I thought I'd linky to them anyway, for anyone who hasn't read them):

If you're resigned to buying a Kalypso version, GC2EU will basically only lose you the DL .exe versus GC2UL. Most people will probably stick to only TA anyway, so it's cheaper but not really any loss.
