Starting last night, Sins would not start. The screen goes black and nothing happens. I played in the afternoon and changed nothing on the computer. But for some reason this problem started only a few hours later. I've tried reinstalling. My drivers are up to date. Anyone have any suggestions?
Sounds like a corrupted video driver?
Have you tried un-installing the drivers, then going into your control panel "device manager" actually un-installing the video card, re-booting and re-installing the driver?
thanks,
the Monk
I updated the driver. But I'll try your suggestion. It's just strange because the game had been working just fine, then it stopped.
Just tried it. Still nothing.
Very strange. Can you try deleting your Sins of a Solar Empire settings?
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Settings
Vista: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Settings
That may do the trick, though you'll need to put back in all the various graphics options, etc.
Is there another way to find the file/files? I tried that path and couldn't find it. No folder named "local settings."
Make sure you don't have hidden folders turned on...
Got it. I found the folder and deleted the files. Still nothing. Thanks for the suggestion though. Something has to work eventually.
Something similar happend to me. This little box comes up as well:
Runtime Error!Program: ...ardock\Sins of a Solar Empire\Sins of a Solar Empire.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information.
Sins worked well in the morning but not in the afternoon, Sunday the 16th
I did however install some updates of Gal Civ 2 in the morning if that could have an impact?
Sad!
(I'v reinstalled sins, updated my drivers and deleted the settings as well) Nothing works
It wouldn't, no. If Sins is failing to run, support@ironcladgames.com should be able to assist.
cdrudin,
Here are links to the x86 and x64 versions of the Visual C redistributable:
x86 version of Visual C++ redistributable
x64 version of Visual C++ redistributable
...might help fix that "runtime error" for ya!
Sounds like a different issue. I don't get a Runtime Error. Like I said, the screen goes black and nothing else happens. The only option I have is to restart the computer. I've emailed support. Still waiting for a reply.
Do You have a Windows logo button on your keyboard? If so try pressing it when the screen blacks out. I knw that often when I try to play I have to hit the windows button and then click on the Sins of a solar empire button on the task bar befor I can get anwyhere. I wish I could hep you more.
Samurye.
I've done that and tried the ol' "alt-ctl-delete." Nothing.
Oh. I am sorry that I have not been of any help. I hope tou can get your game to work. Belive me it is annoying not to be able to play your games. I have had my hard drive fried and while we waited for a new one I could not play anything.
I'm still open to any suggestions. I heard back from support on Monday. The suggestion was to uninstal and reinstal the game using Impulse. That didn't didn't work. I haven't heard anything back from support since.
Go to C:\user\____\Application Data\Local bla bla bla find the Sins folder, open up user.setting
you have to change the value that relates to running in a window from FALSE to TRUE.
After a first run like this, you can change it back to full screen within the ingame options.
Success!! You're the best my friend. Thank you very much.
Yeah that solution has worked twice for me now. Kryo if its possible, I think Sins should default to the window; not fullscreen, and there should be a configuration utility to access the graphic options without launching the engine.
No - it should start full screen - maybe have a comand line switch or something for windowed, but it should not force the majority that have no issue to start windowed. Having just had issue trying to sort out how to connect to 1.1 (and 1.11) vs 1.05 and work out what changed - it can be a pain - but the majority should not be impacted just for me while I fix something...
