Hey I just preordered demi god, and I was wondering how I can download the beta.
Install/Run Impulse and then click on the Stardock Orb in the top left corner. Then make sure that 'show pre-release...' is checked. Demigod should show up in the MyGames tab in Impulse after that. If not then the next beta session has not kicked off yet and as soon as it does then you can download and participate in it.
Ok i did what you said, but i dont see anything. I think i may need to register the product but they did not send me a registration key, just a order number
that's because you aren't allowed the beta (specifically beta 1) anymore. that beta has been closed to new purchases and you'll have to wait until beta 2 becomes available -- when that is released you'll find a nice new addition in your MyGames tab.
I think we get this question once a day. Too bad gpg doesn't put a BIG RED WARNING saying beta isn't available. They just put a little asterick saying *subject to beta open and close dates but one would have no idea when those dates are unless they read the whole forum.
yeah, it is a common pain.
could someone from SD (after all, it's your forum) cast a bit of magic and make the notice more discrete?
This is currently being looked at. When you purchase the beta in the Impulse store you get this message in the cart:
"This is a preorder item that must be purchased individually. No other items can be added to cart at this time. Please complete checkout, and your preorder will be saved in our system. You will not be charged until this product becomes available to you."
We are looking at making it bigger or contain a link for explination and so forth.
I saw that message when I preordered too but it doesn't mention anything about a Beta. It should say Betas are not currently available with preorders but you will get them in Beta2.
good to hear that it's got attention. for the record, i read all my things carefully and noted the whole 'will not be charged until this product becomes available to you.' way back when i first ordered. that said, it's a bit ambiguous at that point whether or not the product is or isn't available.
that's my current gripe.
then again, if you're old enough to be purchasing things online you should be mature enough to read the fine-print carefully.
I purchased my Demigod pre-order with the Sins of a Solar Empire:Entrenchment pre-order about a month ago. What problems could this generate for me?
load up Impulse and see if you can download the beta, it won't hurt you if it doesn't work.
Does everyone that pre-orders get in on the Beta (assuming you get in before the deadline)? In other words, if I pre-order now, will I automatically get into Beta 2 when it is available or is there still a possibility that I don't get in?
Thanks.
Yes if you purchase a pre-order you are automaticly in on the beta. Purchasing now will flag your account. When the beta opens your account will be charged and the information emailed to you. After that it is just a matter of downloading the beta through Impulse and playing!
I too would liekto see an icon in Impulse indicating that I've made a pre-order. Maybe have it washed out and have the text on teh right indicate that it will be live at some later point.
What you need is what zubaz suggested here, and I suggested in the Impulse forum. The icon need to show up with text to the side:
Demigod: Preorder BetaAwaiting Beta 2 Release Date for Availability
Something like this would be perfect. Also for my SINS preorder (before a beta was to be released), it should say:
Sins of a Solar Empire: Entrenchment PreorderDownload Available on Release Date 11/18/08
That would clear up a ton of confusion.
I purchased Demigod through the main Demigod.com page without having a stardock account. I realized afterwards that to play in the beta I would need one. So I registered. How can I attach the previously purchased pre-order to my account to ensure I'll be in the next beta?
I did the same thing when I ordered originally and was shocked at how easy it was. If you use the same email for the purchase and your stardock account, stardock is smart and autopopulates the account based on the email. At least that is how it worked for me.
So it should show in the pre-release section of my games in Impulse? Because it doesn't. How will I know for sure that it autolinked the accounts? I would just like to know because I really want in to Beta 2 and I don't wanna miss out because I didn't take care of this. Thanks for the help
Beta 2 hasn't started just yet. When it does you will get an email telling you that your credit card has been charged and it will give you your serial number. Until you get that email you do not have access, however don't worry because no one else has access either. Just sit back and rest up, for when it does start you will need all the rest you can get.
I have been making a case for this to stardock. It confuses and annoys customers to not know. Any confusion and annoyance in their mind makes the next purchase a little more hesitant, especially if everything doesn't go smooth.
However, stardock does seem to make it go smooth. I worried just like you and it worked flawlessly for me. If you are really that concerned, email stardock support or sales to confirm that the accounts are tied and everything will just work. If for no other reason, it might help them realize the usefulness of a pre-release or beta icon listed on your my games tab.
Well the pre-release section is checked but I still don't have anything in there. Is there supposed to be or will there only be an icon when Beta 2 is actually released?
Checking show pre-release allows beta versions and patches to show up. The reason you don't currently see the Demigod icon, is that you have not been charged for yet. When the Beta 2 release day comes, they will charge people's cards. When they get to yours and you refresh impulse, Demigod will show up and you can then download it.
So if I pre-order now, is it definite that I will get in beta 2?
YES!!!
