So what do we have?
Light and dark
Air and earth?
water and fire?
Anything else?
I was thinking about the dark sun campaign from d&d. Each time a wizard cast a spell it burns a part of the world. Wouldn't it be great to have some elemental bars that would fill up each time a spell is cast. When the bar is full a portion of the world transform into an element. If a water bar is filled up then an area is flooded (and why not an area chosen from the kingdom of the player with less water affinity?). A fire bar full? an area become a desert. Light full? renewal of an area (but in the kingdom with the most affinity with light) etc...
I hope elemental will not just be about elemental creatures but also some kind of diplomacy between each one. And some balance to keep.
I think it would be great for someone to make a combination matrix of all the different assumed schools and elements (hint, hint).

I imagine that the most summons would be found under life. If not (because life has so much to work for it) then I would say earth and water would be the two summon heavy domains. So like fire-water would get mutants and strang crazy stuff. Earth wind having some of the more magestic things like phantam beasts and harpies, and gorgons... what have you.
Brainstorming on the previous post (good ideas by the way):
earth-water- erosion (loss of fertility), maybe ice effects should be here (water turning into a rock-like ice)-glaciers, create wetlands? better preformance (movement, fighting) in wetlands? better preformance on ice/snow
air-water- faster sailing, water spouts? better preformance on open water
earth-air -dust storms? better preformance in mountains?
water-fire -steam -war machines? better production?
earth-life -night vision?
air-fire - I like the forest fire idea!
earth-fire - volcanos? the ability to create mountains?
life-fire -better dragon diplomacy? fire resistance?
earth-life- wild plant growth? trolls? better farm production.

ah yes. Earth-water definatly should have swampy things. Maybe we should start also considering 3, 4, or even 5 element spells.
life - fire - water - earth - wind : void spells, prismatic spray, Master of Magic/Cataclysm/ F-everybody-but-me-spells
fire - earht - water - wind: nature rending, worldly mastery (like perfect movement through all types of terrain and accross planes)
Life-fire-earth : Magma men, super buffs, Chaos (if fire didn't already have it)
life - wind - earth: Mass death, super mutations, sonic elemental (If I used bleeba's dragon idea, it would go here)
life - water - earth: petrification could be
life - earth - water: Even better farm production, super swamp things
water - earth - fire : wind-void, provides counters for many wind spells
fire - earth - wind: Armagedon (this could I guess be all 4 elements as well)
multi-element spells is hard to consieve actually.
Water = healing and movement. If there was some kind of spy/courtier system, Air could be used to help to spy (nothing like to be able to hear what others whisper and such). Earth would be defense related as fire would be offense related. Life would be the one who binds them together to create whatever your power allows you to try.

I think that void should be a combo of spells. Like if you are the guy that takes 2 books in every element (rather than 10 in 1 element) then you open up the void spells. If you study every element, then naturally you'd know spells that would the absense of every element.
earth+fire+wind+water+life (heart) = void spells
that is what I say anyway.
I'm quite biased since i met Legend of the Five Rings. In it, Void can make things from prophecy to unmake people. Also, void users end a bit... away from the world. It's the element between the elements (them being fire, water, air and earth).
Not that i dislike the current setup of elements, of course. And we don't know too much yet about possible elemental subschools. As long as we get a good variety of spells in all the areas (battle, diplomacy, economy..), it'll be fine.

incidently I believe that all spells will be made using the shards mentioned in the lore section
The recent update on magic suggest there will be combinations of them and that they give out mana?
