I will be posting updates on the progress of my little 3rd party mod that aims to add the Borg as a full faction

I am only goin to give the borg 3 capital ships, due to the fact they are really really expensive, you wont see that many, so for this reason i am only goin to have 3 capital ships

Scout Sphere (This ship is now the borgs scout and light frigate)
Long Range Torpedo ship (need to fix the shaders only)
Planet Assimilation Ship (Colony Ship, will colonise unowned planets and assimilate populated ones)

All borg ships will if you so wish transmit this message
“we are the Borg lower your shields and surrender your ships we will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own, your culture will adapt to service us RESISTANCE IS FUTILE”
as its set to an ability i may also make it disable somestuff or make it so it has an negative effect on enemy ships (note long cool down to prevent spamming of this message )
Borg Ship / Station Assimilation Ability -- All capital ships will have this ability only (Long cooldown)
Borg Planatary Assimilation -- All capital ships will have this ability and the planet assimilation ship (Long cooldown)
Borg Space Stations ( i will post pictures as i get them done)
Borg Outpost (pic below )(Fires a borg "laser" beam only)
Borg Unimatrix (this will be added when entrenchment comes out) you will need a pretty big fleet to take this out tho i may limit it to 1 per game (somehow)
Borg Shipyards (noidea about these yet)(ideas welcome)
Transwarp Conduit (acts like vasari phasegate) (updated) finished (post below expains this more and a possible insane version of the vasari RA perhaps ^^)
Transwarp Hub (a smaller version of this massive station, the borg SW, allows the borg to open a transwarp aperture anywhere on the map regardless if the planet / grav well has a transwarp conduit) Scary thought
Torpedo Turret ?? ( i may just give the borg outpost both torpedos and lasers) you views on this?

But please don’t get your hopes up just yet as I have quite a bit to do yet and I need to balance the Borg too so.... it will be done when its done or at the very earliest some time after SoA 0.3 is out so I could balance it to that

Planet Assimilator (can assimilate and populate planets assimilation has a 50% chance of failure on populated worlds, untill research has been done to improve it)
Borg Coffin (light Cruiser) ( can assimilate other frigates / cruisers 50% chance of assimilation faliure, untill research has been done reducing the chance of failure to 40%)
Advanced Sphere (medium Cruiser) ( can assimilate other frigates / cruisers 45% chance of assimilation faliure, untill research has been done reducing the chance of failure to 35%)
Diamond (Heavy Cruiser) ( can assimilate other frigates / cruisers 40% chance of assimilation faliure, untill research has been done reducing the chance of failure to 30%)

I like the look of it. For my suggestion I would say that between the armada games and legacy there are plenty of non-canon designs to go off of. I don't think the borg need more than the two cubes, the other capital ships could be much smaller and more like the capital ships of the other races in terms power, but the two cubes are more for the player willing to pay for a ship that takes forever to build. I would have the diamond, armada 1 assimilator, and the canon sphere as the other capital ships seeing as they are still larger than most other vessels.
In armada ships could only target one vessel at a time with sins those cubes could have ten beams firing from every side at four different vessels.
I have a proposal for you. SOA 2 is Major Stresses vision, but we could join forces to create an unofficial 3rd party addon to SOA 2, which happens to include the Borg, and anything Major Stress decided not to put in. I personally would like to recreate the federation with more late 24th century ships like the Prometheus and nova class and remove the TMP era vessels. I just need to see about how to get some nice models like the ones from P81.

I recommend the Borg ship used by Lore in TNG, and either the Advanced Sphere (the giant one) or the Diamond.
For frigates, I would do mainly heavily modified models of Delta Quadrant ships.
I personally prefer the Armada I and II ships, but the Cube from Legacy wasn't so bad as an alternate version (possibly your command cube).
I like the idea of more 24th century ships, especially the Norway class, but leave in some TMP ships (there should be room anyway).
Last note, the Borg Capital ships should use more command, use more supply, and cost more than normal capital ships, since the only capital ships that would probably dent a Borg Cube on its own would be the Dominion Battleship.
By the way, the mod sounds great. Ships look good so far.

It would be nice yes to have more later 24th century ships how ever looking at how it works we can just add those on to the game with out removing any of the current ones ^^, as from what i have learnt in helping on the stargate mod (of which i am still doing) is you can have all of those spaces filled so good chance we dont have to remove anything. I do like Major Stresses mod, which is why i decided to do this .

yes they do use more command pushing 250, supply not sorted that yet and cost well its like 15,000 8000, 8000 and it takes around 2min to make but its well worth it
Once the borg are done i prolly will consider adding 8472 aswell.
I persoanally have been against adding borg as an official part of SoA 2 because, I wanted it to stay more focused on the Dominion Wars. Borg can easily break the balance of the game if you use the TNG Borg cubes. If you dumb them down to the retarded Voyager borg it just wont be fun.
Anyways this is an example of what i meant about the 3rd party mods for SoA 2. Being a 3rd party mod i dont mind seeing the borg at all. It is not officially supported by SoA 2, but will add to, and enhance the mod. Just dont come to me for any 'tech support' for this. It is loki's baby

I'd drop the funky ships. Cubes and spheres all the way. Since you're going to have them taking shit over, they really don't need a diverse fleet to start with. Scout spheres are already pretty weak ships. Even if you skip the assimilator, which isn't really borg but funky reject Borg that built screwy stuff after they crashed their scout sphere, you've got one relatively weak scout ship, the command cubes and their accompanying spheres, and the regular cube.
From there, you build off your opponents to flesh out roles you don't have. You've got regenerating armor and massive damage output so it's not like you'd have a problem getting them.
I think the "funky ships" should stay, because most of the game will be played as the smaller vessels until you have enought resource income to support the large cubes, but considering the power of the cube the cost should be so extreme that you will only be able to build them very late game if at all. Having many cheap ships early on helps to balance them with other races which have a good selection of early ships. The real weak point of the borg should be the middle ground, they have the biggest capital ships, plenty of small cheap ships for any role, but for heavy cruiser and light capital they don't really have much to fill those roles, meaning they can get a foot hold early game, but they will struggle mid game, but they can become god-like only if they make it to the cubes. Plus the cubes should require very expensive researches before they can be constructed.
Assimilation should be a part of the borg, but with its current 100% rate and no damage requirements for the enemy, it would make them way too powerful. I don't believe there is any way to create a success rate or require the target to have taken alot of damage.
The picture of the assimilator is the armada 2 version, I think the armada 1 version of the ship looks nicer.
Scout spheres are small. Even the command sphere from First Contact was a weakling ship, they popped it with a few torpedos.
yea i plan for the player to research cubes etc before u can build them
so you would like research a cube before u can get tactical cube n command cube or w/e and ofc the first ship is still free atm
currently 1 Borg cube can take down a pirate base with all its ships and defences with ease it lost about 50% of its health though (even if it did assimilate the pirate base in 1 second lol, it still had the ships and defences to deal with)
I don’t think there is a way i can make the assimilation ability of the Borg vessels dependant upon if the ship has shields or not, but the ability has like a 2min cool down. But if i remember correctly didn’t a Borg just "beam" over to the enterprise when it had its shields up anyway?
I am still working on a way to delay the capture of the ship and planet and give it a % of successes, as its a little stupid atm Borg cube arrives and assimilates the planet instantly lol. I may keep the assimilation abilities to the capital ships. <--- Ok well i sorted this just working on a way to make it obvious as to which ship is being assimilated currently the delay is at a default of 20 seconds but i can alter this as to what ship is doing the assimilation ^^, so more time for spheres or w.e. Still working on trying to figure out for it to work when the ship has no sheilds. (updated)
I am working on this practically on my own atm so it will be a while before i get around to doing the research tree
To keep the assimilation ability to the capital ships is a good idea, plus I would suggest that it cannot be used against enemy capital ships and have a long recharge and antimatter costs, plus the capture could be instant, but if possible do a good amount of hull damage, disable shields, and prevent the ship from moving for several seconds.
Ok well i have sorted the assimilation ability so now it works once the ship has taken some hull damage ^^ because of this i reduced the ship assimilation time to 12 seconds
just need to work now on a way to make the ships look assimilated, and try and fix up the planet assimilation one too

i allmost have got the Tactical cube sorted too so some pictures should follow tomorrow, had to do some texture hunting lol but have them now
and i buffed the borg cube somewhat, as i tested it yesterday it got owned by 30 mirandas lol so now its the otherway around the cube just manages to take out 35 miranda class ships if it starts at lv 1
a level 7 cube can take on around 20 galaxy class ships and just about win

With the extreme increase in power per level, for balance I would suggest that the cubes require alot of experience to level up. I don't mind the idea that lvl.1 cubes are not godly, but due to their extreme health they should be easier than most ships to get to levels, so at lvl.10 then they could become the extreme fleet killers. But also the cubes cost and build time should be so high that the player can't afford to loss them.
For the assimilation ability, its still very powerful as it should be, but for balancing IMO it presents the largest challenge, but it would be nice if capital ships could be not be targeted and the cooldown was more like 30 seconds. You will still be able to pick off plenty of cruisers, but you can't just steal the entire enemy fleet.

Looks awesome, can't wait till both SoA2 & your addon are finished.
Some feedback on the diamond: perhaps it needs to be slightly more dark-green, so its on par with the cubes. Atm it looks a bit too greyish-brown to me. The model itself is great though.

i shall be posting updated pictures soon on some more finished ships mainly the sphere coffin etc
once SoA 0.3 is out i shall work hard to get a demo out to you all pretty shortly after it is released as all i will need to do is polish it up balance sort out some files etc
I like what you re doin with this, are you going to focus on "balancing" the borg with the other races when demo.03 comes out or are you going to allow the borg to be over powered (20 galaxies to take down 1 borg cube I think you said) I think let them be over powered its an add on...
yes i will balence the borg out with the rest of the factions, but with that said the capital ships are just goin to be very powerfull especially if you manage to get them to lvl 10 and upgraded. But b ecause they are super powerfull fleet killers, you cant afford to lose them
