So far I have been able to translate the Creatures Concept art. Heres what I have so far:
Creatures-Quadrupeds:RazorbackPrimal GatorEbbenwolfGuardian wolfWhile mankind had grown weak and gluttonous, the beasts of the world still lived Under survivals rule.Their transition into the world forsaken was with lesshardshipBut still, without Magic?, the world was dying. And so too its roaming creatures.
Creatures-Dragons:
Dragons:Ruby DragonShadow DragonPlains DragonMan was not alone in want and desire. The race of dragonkind, steadfast guardiansof (Magic?) far eons prior, were forced to share the world with these newlycreated beings. When the time of war swept the land barren, consuming soil and plant and lake, the race ofdragon accepted their fate, and left the world tothe whims of the devourers.
MORE to Come!
And finally we have the Arachnids:
Death WidowWoodspiderGreat SpiderAll but the heartiest of beast fell to the long desolation. Those who remained were forever changed, much like the world itself.Ever hungry, ceaselessly roaming, these creatures of the wildbecame the bane of the wandering.
Haha, I was wondering how long it'd take for someone to translate that text Awesome!
Hehe, thanks Scott! My eyes were burning from squinting so much at the lettering but it was well worth it. Just one tiny thing can you please tell me what letter it is for the ?adow Dragon, cause the only two letters I don't have assigned are J and X, and I'm not sure if Jadow or Xadow would work there.
Either way, I'm psyched for the game, been supporting Stardock forever and I can't wait to see this game in action! And I'm sure you'll do great as the Exec. Producer... and soul's are overrated anyways, hah!
And last but not least for the other Concept Art, all four sides are the same and it says:
Top:The Kingdom of ???? Elemental The Empire of ??? Left:In The First Age after the cataclysm was born the One who would cover the world with deathRight:In the First Age after the cataclysm was born the One who would bring lifeback to the worldBottom:Part \(Perhaps 1?) of the ELEMENTAL circle(One character used for ir?) ? WAR of MAGIV (Which should be C, typos! Oh noes!)
Shadow Dragon?
Not enough letters, unless the Elemental Language has one character for Sh.
How on earth did you manage to figure out the translation? Is might as well be Greek to me. (Actually, it looks rather Dwarven, but you know what I mean.)
Well to be honest, I just matched characters up with the letters you know, like creature, dragon, ect. The letters I didn't know I figured out while translating the rest of the text. Except for the J and X, which I have not come accross. Funny thing is I really liked doing it... maybe I should become a written language translator, anicent egyptian shouldn't be that hard
Ohh and a big Thank You! goes out to Starhound. Because you made me go back and really look at it, and as it turns out the Elemental language does have one character for Sh. So infact it is Shadow Dragon. Thanks!
Guardian Wolf? Really?
Let's see... Long tail, large ears, narrow pointed snout, dark markings on legs and tip of tail, not to mention a white/pastel color scheme that matches at least one person's depiction of a myobu kitsune. Really not seeing a wolf here, but that's what it says. I think I may have found a taxonomy bug.
Good job on the translations, though. I suspected it was a code of some sort and was going to work on it tonight, but it looks like you've got it all figured out already. Personally, I'm surprised they went with an SH character instead of the old-English Thorn.
Thanks Jalicos, strangly I found a character for ir too. They might have had a Thorn (th) as well but had not used it yet.
But something I just came accross was that a Stardock Employee, Trent aka Mittens, just said that the runes in the corners are words as well. Unfortunatly I can not match them to any of the charaters I know. But I believe starting at the red one and going clockwise it is: Fire, (Magic or Element), Water, Earth, and Air. Of course I can't back that up.
But I must say that Paul Boyer, of Icon fame, did a great job on them, and I'm guessing the language as well.
Guess I'll have to wait for one of the great Stardock employes to confirm or contradict what I think.
It's obvious that the corner symbols are the elements, though I had Earth and Air switched. I guess that's because I'm thinking Air/wind and you're thinking Air/lightning. The black symbol in the middle is probably Life or whatever they're calling it.
The reason I think the middle one may be Magic is because there is a character used that looks alot like it in the paragraphs that I've translated. And that character would only make sense if it was roughly translated to magic/element. But of course like I said it is still speculation.
Also the reason I though air was yellow and earth was green, was because I can't see Air being green. If you look at the poster the bottom right is green, I know on the website it looks bluish but the borders edge is in itself green.
I believe that CondarF is right about the element symbols in the corners, since those color/element associations are also what's found in Wicca.
Jalicos: I believe that the guardian wolf looks alot like Okami who was a wolf. Just my opinion.
And on the symbols on the top line of the poster following kingdom of and empire of. Since the kingdom is the good side and the empire is the bad side. They could be either life/death or light/dark. Just a possible solution.
And for the character "X". If you watch the trailer you'll see the character for "X" which is similar to the "Z" without the extra flourish in the upper left and lower right of the character. Sorry don't have one for "J".
He did an outstanding job to be sure! If that does not warrant him some solid karma for him from you I don’t know what would. Anyway, I'll give him what I can.
So man-up, step-up and give-up!
Hehe, thank you Spartan! And the others that were kind enough witht he karma.
Texwolf, thank you much for pointing out the X to me, I've watched that video a few times and it didn't occur to me that there were a few X's. Should have though can't spell Exterminate with an X, or Exploration, or Exploit, and yeah how about Expand. But now its finally nice to know the character for X, which is basically a 0 with a line through it.
Yeah... I don't know where my mind was on that one, lol Well it seems I might have to translate some of the text in the video too, give me something to do, hehe.
I just thought I'd chime in and say you did an excellent job. I know it is something my puny brain could never handle!
Glad to assist even in such a token way. Recognition for initiative on things like this is often overlooked by the throngs of gamers on the forums.
I think that's where the "guardian" part comes from. The script-like markings are nearly identical to the ones on Amaterasu Okami, and wolves, especially white ones, are often depicted as nature guardians in Japanese myth. What bugs me are the other markings, on the paws and tail. They're more indicative of foxes than wolves, enough so that I originally assumed I was seeing a fox with Okami markings. How strange.
This brings back memories of Master of Magic. I remember going through it, creating a translation key for the runes in the spellbook, and then at the start of each game checking to see if I got the really good spells.
I'm impressed that folks figured out a trick like that, but I kind of hope Elemental has a similar system of spell books that you *can't* decrypt except by in-game research.
I really liked not knowing exactly what spells would be there at the end of a given MoM game--it was a good part of the replayability factor for me.
I'm shocked CondarF only got 10 karma for this most unique effort. Come on guys, don’t be stingy show some love!
The other day while i was taking some screenshots for the user manual of one of the applications we work in, i found the TRUE meaning of the symbols in the four corners:
Or maybe Stardock's guys are really smart (they are anyways) and have been advertising the game long before we knew?
In any case, it's cool the attention to details (typos and all) that we can see in the game and the stuff related to it. Keep the good work!
Hey guys,
Once again thank you for the thanks, and your welcome. And thank you all for the Karma. I'm just hoping for some new stuff to come out so I can start that translation gland going again.
Indeed. Even though I hope CondarF's skills won't help anyone decode spell books in advance once we have the game, I love fictional alphabets and languages and appreciate folks with the skills to reverse-engineer them.
Say, CondarF, any chance you'd be interested in translating the text around this bit of concept art?
