Iz it me, am I MAD or WOT !!!
wot do ya need to do in this world to get a game to play online like it tell ya on the god damn box. "Complete online in epic multilayer" err NO!
So now I am up here reading about how to get the game online and playin wit others like me. Not only do I have to be a network guru guy to understand how to config ma router, I have the disappointment in finding out that the game is waiting on some kind of update to, to do wot the fuc*er STAR DUNCE sold me with that statement on there nice looking box.
No it's excuse after excuse in the hope of being forgiven or understood and WHO THE HELL IS RESPONSIBLE ANYWAY!! Because ya no wot I bet ya kno one will take responsibility for the failure to conceal the blatant fuc* up of stating "Complete online in epic multilayer" on the box. They will hide behind TEC SUPPORT in the hope we will we put up with their smoke screen tactics that all developers do “check YOUR HARDWARE, CHECK YOUR CONFIG settings BLA BLA BLA !!
If they only could do the same job as the art department did on the funky cardboard box that the game has for no reason, then we would be ROCKIN it out online in the matrix stars like the other ai bots in this game and maybe if we iz lucky real people to.
If this makes any sense to anyone then, cool coz I is pissed, pissed that I got sucked in again reading the box about a game that claim to just work just fine wit out defect online for free. No it's a half baked again and someone is getting paid to much without accountability.
You may ask ya self this “wot the fuc8 is wrong wit ya dude”, and I will say this; I should be playing Sins of a Solar Empire Multiplayer online coz it say that on the box................................
Regards
ok......seriously...
1. The game does work "out-of-the-box". All of the updates since release have been for many reasons, some of which were obviously bug-fixes (how is this different from any other piece of software intended to be used on thousands of possible hardware/software configurations?)
As far as the "hosting" goes. The box doesn't say that every joe out there will be able to host. Epic multiplayer does not depend on you being able to host, it only requires you to join someone else's game (I've enjoyed some pretty epic MP games in SINS played with one of my sons in our basement!)
2. You do not need to be a network guru (there is plenty of step-by-step information on these forums regarding network setup including but not limited to my guide "Networking and SINS") however it certainly helps to WANT to learn what you need to in order to configure your own shit. Afterall the configuration of your router isn't something ANYONE ELSE but you needs to concern themselves with. You could always wander the anals of Google until you know enough...
3. Patch 1.1 (the current build is 1.05) adds tons of stuff along with new "tunneling netcode" (ALLOY) which will allow absolutely any joe-blow to "host" a game..... awesomeness indeed!
...so.....if you're done pissing around, I'll be glad to (as always) lend a helping hand!
the Monk
Howdy the Monk, Thanks for ya reply!!
You just need to add your account name to the player bit that is for adding a players in the ICO login panel. Now that to me looked like the part others players will be seen. After not seeing any I went bit rip-off crazy again, the steam waz a blowing out ma ears!!!
Maybe it is me or maybe I should have read the manual or maybe Star Dock should add all your account names as default and you check the name you want to use. Even a small bit info on what the ICO login panel is for when you are there would be helpful. Then I would not need to read a manual and or slag off a sound game and the development team.
I think I need to apologize to STAR DOCK . So here go's SORRY STAR DOCK.
Well I am now ready to learn how to play the game and maybe after this bit I will go online to get a digital kicking.

What font is that?
its kick-ass

While his grammar is pretty far off, the original poster is 100% in the right, and conveniently placed any argument for or against the problems with Sins of a Solar Empire in a nice little saying: It says multiplayer on the box, and doesn't work.
It doesn't really matter and no one really cares about what mistake or oversight caused the problem, because it is just that, an oversight, and a problem. If a company wants to stick a $49.99 price tag on a game, especially in a world where MMO's are everywhere and expected, they had better do enough testing to find bugs like these. A bug causing a crash in matches that can take up to, and beyond, 5 hours to finish is a HUGE PROBLEM and yields no excuse. Sorry.
I suppose, though, that Stardock will be punished enough through the nature of Capitalism. I know that I will likely stay away from the brand in the future, at least. Let's just hope they don't get smart and change their name
hahaha.
what a funny troll.
ignore him and maybe he will go away.

Perhaps some people should actually read the reply comments to the OP. I believe that's two people in a row who didn't seem to realize that Blackspot took notice of The Monk's post (something that trolls in general gladly ignore) and responded more than appropriately.
Faugh!
The monk's post was definately wordy enough, but "adequate," no. And no, I don't make it a regular habit to bash games; but then again, I've never bought a game that failed on the fundamental levels this one does. It's more frustration, really, because the game IS a breakthrough creatively, and dances with total failure now because of a networking error.
The monk's response was just more of the political bullshit jargon that posters like the OP have heard for years. Bottom line is, neither his nor developers' magical words can change the fact that AFTER following many of the helpful threads he mentioned, many players, including myself, see themselves putting a $50 game on the shelf because the developers got a little sloppy and no one will refund opened software.
Sorry Monk, your posts are typically helpful. To the person above, shush.
hi
i stopped playing sins in june because of the poor online gaming. came back yesterday to give it another chance. first game minidump.
i dont understand why some of the people defending stardock so badly. they doing such a bad job on the patch. it was announced for middle of july and now we are in november and seriouly, noone here know if the 1.1 patch will be out this year at all.
maybe i go back to age of empires 3. yeah its microsoft (or ensemble) and they doing a fuking great job. they got a good community, patching a lot and yeah, everyone can host there!
conte
Damn, dude, did you just type cockney?
Shush yourself.
Does multiplayer automatically mean an out-of-the-box ability to host? I, for one, have never hosted an online game, because I have never had a need to. Am I abnormal in this respect? Is hosting the only problem? Great - we can debate whether it counts as fundamental failure. Is the entire multiplayer system badly designed? Then it's just that - a flaw in design, not a bug or an unintentional side effect (and which, I might add, is, as Monk said, being improved in 1.1).
You've rather rhetorically stated that Monk's post is unhelpful (there appears to be a typo in your second-last sentence), but no more than that. If you would excuse my insolence, your post was definitely wordy enough, but "adequate", no.
If you're just going to complain, then find something else to do. You could at least name the problems you have with this software (other than it dancing with "total failure") specifically, and then it would be easier to discuss the points you bring up. Because as it is, it appears there are no true points to discuss.
Please enlighten us, or at least me; is hosting the only problem? Do you object to these sorts of problems or bad design in general?
My specific problem is with the game crashing; haven't actually defeated a single opponent on IC unless they crashed before I did. Other than that, there is the hosting issue. Inside the hosting issue, there's the fact that within the game, the only explanation they give you when your router ports are closed is either "Disconnected from Game Server" for joiners, or a neverending wait time if you're the host. There are other evidences of negligence, too, like a 9-month patching process, disconnects, and installation problems.
A few of the many reasons there are unfortunately only about 60 players online at one time for a well-reviewed game, maybe up to 90 around peak hours.
My apologies for not mentioning my personal reason the first time, I was a little stoned at the time.
Great! In that case, I agree with you. I rather shamefully forgot to mention the minidumps in my last post, so my apologies for that as well
I must agree with the patching problem as well, though to be honest I rather consider that more of an ongoing support thing...
IC was quick with their first few patches, though the major 1.1 is indeed taking a while. They do seem to go on the forums a lot, though... and it's not as if they have a 70-man development team. IMHO they've done a pretty good job, and, considering their close associated with SC (who are exceedingly good at the support thing - witness GalCiv), I for one would continue to support them.
But yes - I see your points.
Sorry about interfering And thanks for clearing it up, at least for me
and the funniest thing: they are not capable to fix their game but they can work on the expansion
i so much hope, that EA or Microsoft buys this company and shuts it down and let their own stuff work on this game
While crashes are regrettable, fixing them is a top priority for the devs. If you encounter a minidump at any point, please send it in to support@ironcladgames.com so they can address the issue.
As to hosting, you'd be hard-pressed to find a peer-to-peer online game (like most RTSes, for one) that does not require port forwarding and/or firewall exceptions in order to host a game. However that too is being eliminated, as the 1.1 update contains all new netcode that (optionally) tunnels past such security.
As has been noted, there have been a number of updates already to address issues and balance. The 1.1 update though is just massive in terms of internal changes, so it's going to take a while longer than the previous patches to get it 'just right', especailly since Ironclad has only ten employees in its entirety (one of which was a recent hire).
Give stardock a break! I think we can all see they are working hard on the updates and fixes, just go read the beta feedback forum. Also just for the benefit of any new players who might be reading this forum the crashes are nowhere near as bad as is made out by some of the posters.
