A thread about a Homeworld Mod of SoaSE got me thinking in Homeworld 2 is it really cheating to use the credit cheat, if the game adjusts the ammount of ships you face based upon how many credits you have, I remember I gave my self a metric ton of credits (not so much as to go into negatives though) and I had to face just insane waves of ships (I did this a very long time again when Homeworld 2 could still be bought at full price), so philosophically in this game do you think you come out with a cheater omg I win type advantage if you gave yourself insane ammounts of credits
Jesus if I had known the game worked like that I could have saved a lot of time. I particularly recall that Asteroid Belt mission in HW1: just build 12 harvesters and watch them enhale asteroids before they have a chance to hit.
I have an old copy of HW and HW2 as well, and they are fun, but nowhere near the graphics of SIns, but i do like them alot still. The moveable turrets in HW2 and the missions in HW1 were difficult at first and still, sometimes i miss my step and wind up losing, haha, but i noticed as you did, that initially, building up fast gives you an edge against the threat before it gets too far into the system.

HomeWorld Memories
Oh, by the way, did you see Wraith's HomeWorld 1 mod here on the site, it is very very very very cool....
You should try it.
I dont know about the feasibility of HW2 getting modded with the turret animations, but well, he has done a marvelous job, a professional job i would say. I wonder if he is a game dev here, or from somewhere else? But i think if anyone could pull it off he could. He has small things in the HW mod, like resource harvesters doing their pickups from the Asteroids, and healing animations for the Mercy ships (healer ships) very very cool...
Sorry to double post. But it is Great! YOu should check it out.

I remember with my near limitless credits, some missions were like the Tet Offensive, I remember the mission when you first got the Progentor Dreadnaught that I had to get everything uber close together, and maximize my firing arcs, I remember at times it got so intense that I was just spamming defense turrets and ion turrets like crazy, desperate the maximize the firepower that I was putting on the enemy, that was before they nerfed them so they couldn't fire while moving, I remember the gate to the big progenitor warship and there were so many enemies, I couldn't hope to finish them all off before I got to the gate like the Strategy Guide said, luckily I could just go threw the gate without worrying about killing them all.
I liked Homeworld Cataclysm a lot better than Homeworld 2. It was fun developing a lowly Kith from a mining faction to a War faction.
I never played, but now wish i had, or could get a copy. Haha, its funny what we all like about the different games isn't it? The marines boarding ships, and the moveable turrets, or your Kith growing from mining faction to war faction. It is cool, all those memories.
I must say though i havent seen rotating planets and a game as easily modded as SoaSE though. This game will be someone's first best memory like HW and MOO and HW:C was for us.
Eh, for those thinking of installing (or reinstalling) HW2 im gonna stick a plug for an old mod that took averything and made it about 4 times more explodey. The PDS mod ( http://www.pds.hwaccess.net ) was possible to run the campaign in, at about version 7, before it stopped working altogether. Might require a bit of editing, with regard to sp campaign level files, but well worth a go - if your PC can handle it
The site has videos - worth a look.
what do you mean by 'explodey'? I head of PDS, it looks pretty complicated though.
Basically, they took the game and all those large capital ships etc and added all the other guns that really would have been there in a sane universe. You dont make a battleship and forget to stick guns on it to shoot things smaller than, say, a destroyer. Really started to put the hurt on the copmuter when each sip has on average 4 or 5 turrets, all trying to shoot stuff.
PDS ?
Forget about that, search for "Homeworld 2 Complex". Amazing what they've done.
