it takes forever to search and to go to another page. I was about to pay $30 but I don 't think it worth it since you all seem not to keep this site running right.
When I came here couple years ago it rocked. I didn't sign up for a pay subscription cause I thought Objectdock was pointless but, since getting Vista I now love it.
Fix this site and I will pay.
It is a simple fact that the site does not work properly and we recieve prescious little information as to the status of the server moves etc and when to expect a positive result. It is not unreasonable to ask for an update which has now been done in a least three threads on this subject with out response.
Spare me the "it's a small world after all" lecture.
I don't think anyone is implying they feel cheated. Just dissapointed.
Thanks Ken for the support...
Well NT it is not like we all bought a new security system or something is it?
The best support for the site is to congratulate when they do well and keep them on their toes when they do not. As Thomas Jefferson said,
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
Hi Fella - hope life's treating you well.
I get that about disappointment, I've bought a couple of Master skins in the past that took me 2 days to download with my last ISP, aggravating wasn't the word and I just kept at it until I found a window of opportunity. The title though injudiciously uses the words 'rip off'. While as you say, I can feel disappointed when the site isn't as immediately accessible as I'd like, I don't feel disappointed or ripped off by the overall balance - partly because I do find it easy to accept that there is a community element that plays into how Wincustomize works and it can impact on my experience in both good and not so good ways. I'm fairly sure that if there was a particular issue I was having, for instance with those Master Skins I couldn't download, that if I'd contacted the sales dept. they would have worked with me to resolve it. I'm also fairly sure that if I'd paid for something that couldn't be delivered, they would work with me to achieve a satisfactory outcome.
I do think I remember that Frogboy has in the past supported this from Voltaire ('Le mieux est l'ennemi du bien.') "The best (or perfect) is the enemy of the good", which while I understand this as an initial 'freeing of personal intertia' philosophy, I don't normally feel it's a suitable basis for a provision of goods/service standard. Maybe, if there are a substantial number of subscribers who are unable to access a good balance and it isn't being resolved, that philosophy may be an underlying element. However, if as is more likely, the open, and for the majority free, nature of Wincustomize itself creates an imbalance which means that the 'best or perfect' is necessarily unsupportable regardless of personal philosophy, then the remainder 'good enough' must eventually come down to consensus - and if the consensus of the subscribers is that 'good enough' is not in fact 'good enough', nor is there a sense in which it is to be achieved under present constraints, then if the present role of subscription is to continue how should sustainable change be achieved? Where will the balance be altered, and how will resources be paid for? Questions that must be met if the OP's cry of "Fix this site and I will pay" is to be achieved.
If the OP can say he has contacted the techs, worked with them and the ISP to see if there are routing issues that can be resolved, checked there aren't any local issues such as his own on board security and is still unable to achieve reasonable access, then the OP can say it's not for him and as you say, state disappointment. It doesn't seem reasonable or useful to post a personal problem using generalisations, while at the same time offering no stated attempt to take steps to identify/resolve the issues he's having, and then extrapolate that into a potential rip off.
Good to see you AS! I think what you say is all true but only in a vacuum. Many of the comments, including NTs, are many in the context of three different threads all this week about serious performance issues with WC and the lack of any significant response as to the staus of the server transfers.
Hi Ken & thanks - a pleasure as always.
I have just starting looking around myself. I don't think the price is a ripoff but I have a couple issues. Well a few that are holding me back. I am thinking of moving back to Mac. However Stardock's software has made Vista much more liveable so I don't know. My only problems with the site are it's slowness, inability to select a page number, and limited sort options. I would like to skip pages, several if I want. I would also like the option to sort by Master Skin, or highest rated. Other than those caveats I am ready to shell out the cash. If I can get myself to buy an Alienware over a Powerbook, that is.
You already can sort by skin rating in the drop-down menu labeled "sort by" and to skip pages you can simply change the last number in the address bar (i.e.https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?libid=1,=2,=3,=4 etc.)It really speeds up the browsing. I hope this helps.
Huh I have looked several times and never saw the skin rating till just now
I just thought I'd say that I've used this site for years and NEVER had real problem with it....
Offsubject:
I used to know a Michael Pedersen when I lived in Upstate NY
I thought I was the only one. I'm from Tampa Fl though
Oh well........ Welcome to wincustomize, Mike
Sorry 'bout being late. Actually, they're Kevlar vests.
Never had one of those - all I ever had was a tinfoil hat... (better than a propellor hat )
Thanks for the welcome I am having a ton of fun. I think this is what I missed on the Mac. I want the original poster to head over to Apple's website and try an deal with their site. I spent about 10 minutes filling out a help form for a problem with some tv shows I bought that wont play. It is beyond slow over there.
$30 dollars is cheap considering the hours of fun i get from this site - i love it and am amazed at how much creativity is here - i wld pay even if it cost $60
-sigh-
Cool, can you pay for me ?
she's just catching up zube. lay off.
neophil78 of course i wld - if i won the lottery lol
Does it count that I was born in Pensicola, but only lived there till I was 6 mo. old????
I am truly a Pacific Northwest girl, been in Or/Wa for 38 yrs.....I love it here
