Or now that i have this little mini mod with one last advent ship..., could i ask if someone could lend a hand with a model touchup? Danman and company have the 7 Deadly Sins mod, and in it, there are these derelict TEC ships, and they look very very cool, well.... not so cool, you know, like corroded and decayed and old and all that, but they look very cool for all that. Anyway, i have a mini mod, and a small story arc for the advent, that says, fifty years from now the advent are almost completely wiped out, having been caught between the vasari and the humans, and there is only a single capital ship left, a carrier, it is old and has 50 fighters aboard, and a smattering of the old abilities from some of the other older and now gone ships, It has Colonize and CaptureNuetralEntity and BlackOut and Dominate. In addition to the fighters, it has re-inforced hulls and shields, not a lot, just a touch, and there is of course a Scout ship and a mobiledefense for on-planet in the gravity well. But that is it. This is the Last Stand for the Advent. Ooops, hope i didnt take that from someone, but anyway. Its a small mini mod, with only one touched up capitalship for the advent, a scout and a mobiledefense.
I just thought if there was an artist in the communty that knew how to make the ships looks kind of beat up, like Danman's derelicts, then i would ask if they could make a beatup Psi Capital Carrier for me. Pretty Please. and then it would really really look like I thought it should when i made up the idea for the Last Advent.

I just had a few thoughts this afternoon, if this was a properly done expansion, and not simply a user made mod, then there would be a host of little tweaks and effects to take into consideration, for a more enjoyable gamer experience.
Several which come to mind are the to hit chance variables changing with the Last Advent scenario: old ships, weak and damaged systems and weapons, inconsistent weapon output, hmm... how to do that? perhaps if weapon damage could be calculated as a range? And tune it towards the poor side. Smoke and debris, would probably be easier to add, the spec on the ships and the reduction in ship count is also more easily achieved. The reduced availability of habitable and current sustainable worlds can be drastically reduced easily enough. The looks however for those scarred and worn torn worlds is another matter, and would require aritistic intervention but would be nicer for the total game experience of this "expansion" in that it would enhance the atmosphere, the "image" of a damaged and wartorn, beatup universe.
Anyway. One step at a time. Perhaps with some time, i can learn how to rework some images, but that would probably only prove a poor substitute for a true gifted artist. Anyway, it is fun to consider and plan and see how it "might" be done, and how far i can get before i run up against the proverbial talent wall.
p.s. If this does indeed, go beyond just the advent, and that looks quite doable, then "The Last Advent" mod, might have to be re-named "The Last War" mod. (to include the Tec and the Vasari with the Advent) But we are not quite there yet, so we will see.
I might fall on my face and not be able to even do as much as i think is quite possible. haha, but lets hope not.
Quick thought/idea: Wouldn't it be cool to miss a weapon misfire, i mean, like it starts, sparks but then sputters and dies out? Haha. perhaps by linking several small new animations? like the sputtering, and the dying? haha. With a lowered (?) to hit chance ratio, or a little smoke coming from the carrier almost constantly, but increasing as shields hulls go down in battle. Haha, im getting carried away, but it is an interesting idea.
the rest of the galaxy will be dead. Or beyond reach. It is just an idea, not really a long drawn out idea for a new game or anything. Just a map or two, desolate, with crippled ships and altered values and almost no research and little or no chance of colonizing anything. And just enough trickling credits, metal and crystal to keep us all half alive.
And battling 'til our last dying breath...

I was playing a bit with the files this afternoon and got vasari and tec ships limited. I left 3 tec and 4 vasari. The tec have support ships, but no way to colonize. So that means only surviving in space and getting limited credits from the Dark Future map i made up, basicall, 64 planets, mostly spacejunk, dead asteroids, some asteroids, one random mix of habitable planets, the rest uninhabitable and some worm holes in a red star system. The Vasari have 4 ships, but no support ships at all, and no planet protection,
Currently i am crashing the mod when taking out the planetmodules, so i have to figure out a way to do that, so the Vasari are truely stripped. As they have 4 capitals and are the most aggressive anyway, it seemed a good balance. The Tec not having a way to colonize, was just an idea that happened when i started cutting ships in the playertech.entity file. But i thought it was a nice end of the world, dark future map sort of idea. And its not like this is a full blown concept, its just a map to play that hopefully will be interesting because of the different tweaks from normal.
The Advent still have only one carrier and a scout and the mobiledefense, oh.... yes... the vasari, have no scouts either. Haha.... well... i "Had" to do "Something" to rein them in.
Anyway, it looks like fun, im play testing now, but still am hoping to get the "Look" right. If i can figure a way to "paint" the ships to look half dead and worn after a half century of battle.

You may want to check out "The last stand" mod, Mansh00ter, the main guy (not sure if he has a team or is alone) seems to have made something like what you describe with ships looking damaged, smoking, on fire as they take damage. Also, since you seem to know what your doing you may want to see if one of the mods currently going could use your help, that way they could help you as well.
I appreciate your thought, and your confidence, but i am only a beginner myself. I have only had my head in the files for the last month i would say. I remember where some of these things are, and many things can be changed by the values the devs have listed in the files themselves. But i'm not really a full blown like modder. I only trim values here and add values there, and see what it does. But thank you for the nice compliment and the nice thought. I think i need a lot more experience before i would be any use to anyone who has been in the modding forum for a while. They know tons more than me. But it is cool isn't it to play with all these silly ideas and cool ideas and horrible ideas and wonderful exciting and fantastic ideas we all get? I know i get some myself, and its fun to play at trying to get them to work.

On a 64 planet map how many Pirate bases will be put in cause if the the war has been going on for 50 years they'll be very rich from all the bounties maybe even have different Pirate factions if possible.
Also an interesting ability could be that since the Advent carrier holds the last of it's people and I'm assuming that it will be much bigger than all the other ships could it have a passive ability in which it gives the owner more credits per second due to the amount of people and thus taxes on it and metal because if they have limited resources they likely recycle everything.
Also could we have a status report on the mod.

I don't think any pirates would be left after fifty years of war. Pirates usualy thrive in times of prosperity, such as before the Vassari and Advent started the war with the TEC. In times of war, pirates usualy suffer and slowly die out. They will face less and less oppurtunities to raid planets and traders because the three empires will build increasingly powerful fleets and defenses. Even if they do succeed in raiding a planet after the war has been going on for awile, they will probably take massive casualties. And if they keep raiding, the three empires will most likely start hunting the pirates down, one by one.In the end, the life of a pirate will not be considered worth it to most people and the pirates will not get enough new recruits to replace their casualties, and will adventualy fade away from history and be forgotten. On a more cheerful note, as soon as any empire enters a time of prolonged prosperity again the pirates will rise again, like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
Interesting thought, when i thought of the Last of the Advent, it was really just an idea for a lone Advent Carrier to go out into a desolate map. My original thoughts on pirates and vasari and tec, was that the pirates were beaten so badly by the larger races, that they had to join the Tec to survive, and the Tec welcomed them in an effort to weild off the Vasari. The Advent, though my favorite, i saw as almost being wiped out. Just the one carrier, although if this were a story instead of just a map there might be only a few thousand of the Advent left.
The idea was to get a lone Advent Carrier, maybe 3 Tec caps and 4 Vasari caps and a small handful, 2 or 3 frigates to battle it out in a system with maybe one or two colonizable worlds and a ton of asteroids.
In the 7DS version when i made the map and played it, i added the radiation ability to the background on all the planets just to make it a little harder, haha, i had to make my little fleet, carrier, strikecraft and two scouts and get off planet quick. Haha, it was fun, but havent found a way to duplicate that in Sins without borrowing the radiation ability from 7DS, which i am reluctant to do. But anyway. Your thoughts on Pirates is interesting and sounds logical to me.

Not really becuse when a war goes on like that pirates get smarter and improve the technology that 3 faction have and still live but maybe in less numbers but they will still be alot out there and since the 3 faction are still battleing it out 50 years later they wouldn't give a damm about pirate raiders infact they still want them to be on their side so they will make contracts with to be privateers like in the old days of the 1700's.

Teal. I thought of an idea for your mod. You could make remenants of the old powerful empires. For example, you could make it to where there are old research faccilities in remote locations or supply depots left over from earlier times in the war. You could also make old ship yards that can't build ships anymore, but they might have some useful ships in them.(support ships,frigates,cruisers) By the way, to make it more interesting you could make it to where in the old research faccilities, there might be an experimental prototype or a unique technology found in it. These are just a few suggestions that I think would make the mod a lot more intersting. Also,as a equalizing factor to the fact that there are not going to be nearly as many ships as there is currently, you could give some of the ships stealth abilities. Such as not being seen on the planetary radar, and not being able to be seen by ships unless they do something to atract attention. I'm surprised SOASE has not incorperated stealth abilities into any of the ships
Ahhhh!! Your suggestions sound very very interesting!! I like them very much. Your idea of shipyards and left over craft and perhaps unknown or experimental abilities. To be honest your idea sounds a lot like what 7 Deadly Sins mod has right now. They have shipyards and new abilities, but not the limit on ships as i would like, but i wonder if playing with the resource files could limit the number and kinds of ships. That would be worth pursuing, although the shipyards and left over craft would be like me copying 7DS. Perhaps i could do it on a smaller scale, and tip the idea to you and 7DS, so they will know im not trying to rip them off. Anyway, it would be interesting to hear from them regarding this. There are quite a few modders working on that mod, but i believe DanMan is the one in charge of the mod. If he would give us a thumbs up, then i would feel okie with going ahead, but i would have to learn to re-do what he has already done, as i dont want to simply lift the code from his mod. But studying it would make it much easier.
Anyway, does that sound fair to you? I mean i have my silly little ideas, but i want to be fair to the other modders here.

Ah, thank you for the ideas and suggestions, right now the mod was made in its first form for 1.05, and since 1.1 i probably will have to re-do it. A lot of the abilities and buffs and textures and map versions changed so i dont think it will run in 1.1. Anyway, the upscale on resources sounds interesting, and that can be put in on the homeworld, by tweaking the resource asteroids. However if the carrier is the last and as you say holds the last of the advent people, then it would be way cooler to have the numbers for resources increase for that ship, and leave the resource asteroids for the homeworld alone. Hmmmm....
As to a date when the re-work will be done? Im not quite sure, i apologize for not having a definite date, its just i am working a few other mini mods as well, about 3 others and im doing it in my spare time after school and taking care of two little ones and the house. My wife of course wants me to do the lawn and rake the leaves, haha, which is not as fun as modding files, haha, but well... certainly necessary.
Anyway, i will try to get it done as soon as i can, and post back when i think we are getting close to finishing it. I am hoping over the next month. I know that is a long time for such a little mod, but if i try to go with some of the suggestions brought up, i will have to figure out how to do some of this, as of now, i have no idea how to do the additions some people want. So i will have to ask those with more experience, and see if they are willing to let me know, or if i need to try to figure it out on my own. Anyway, will let you know, take care and keep modding!!
Oh... just a quick thought, but if there are those who want to try some of these ideas out, you can certainlly download 7 Deadly Sins mod now, and simply start with a map that has a limited number of craft to get the feel of what i am trying to do. Sort of! That ability 'Phase Cloak' is what I'm presently using on my 'money-suckers', it doesnt turn your ship invisible or anything else, but renders it invulnerable to all type of damage! Basically, it phases out, becomes unable to move, attack (can still use abilities though...but you can change all this in the entity files) and best of all, enemies IGNORE him!
So basically hes 'invisible' but you still see him!
