Is mass producing cap ships and those mini aircraft carriers a good idea? I mean, not the WHOLE fleet, but about 50-60 carriers. I find that having a massive swarm of bombers take out capital ships and key ships really helps in the close encounters.
Well basic assaults and anti-fighter frigates are cheaper, so it's relative easy to counter, and when things got rough they can always just destroy your carriers and run.
Bomber spam might be useful, if you have 50-60 like you said you can take down a cap ship or two before the enemy fighters start to take their toll. Fighter spam is a better choice though. It doesnt matter if they do less damage, at least they can fight away other strike craft
Bombers are easily countered by fighters. This might be the worst Spam suggestion ever.
Actually, you guys are underestimating what 30 bombers and 30 fighters can do. Couple them with some Defense or Gaurda vessels and you have cover for your bombers as they rape the hell out of enemy capital ships. So long as you keep your capital ships protected so they can lead assaults upon enemy fortified worlds or defenses mounted by ships on a phase line. (Carriers can not survive the kind of fights that Mazras and Raptures are made to endure. Do not let them in range of enemy ships).
I know what 30 fighters and 30 bombers supported by 30 flak frigs can go. They can fall before my 60 fighters and 30 flak frigs. Bombers need at least a 1.5:1 ratio vs enemy fighters to be worthwhile, and when fleets start getting large the cost of getting to that ratio gets prohibitive. Just build some heavy cruisers to lay the smackdown on capital ships. Unless you're not Vasari you'll end up doing more damage that way anyhow.
Here is what I think: bomber spam is good as long as your strategy does not revolve around it. I build capital ships and make bombers with them and blow up frigates/cruisers. With bombers I can take out ships anywhere in the gravity well quickly unless he ships in question are capital ships. If i see fighters I take out the hanger bays/carriers and watch the fighters die. of course I only play easy diffuculty but still....
sorry i meant The ships in question not he ships in question because that just wouldent make sense!
This is he fist time i have posted on a post! (including the posts I already made)
Stop posting already, you are giving me a headache.
The real problem with bombers is that the interceptors don't, by default, protect your bombers. They mindlessly chase the other guy's bombers. Sometimes that's what you want, but it depends on how you've built your fleet. Other times it's much better for the interceptors to ignore the enemy bombers and destroy other interceptors. This is especially true if your bombers are one of your fleets primary offensive weapons. However, there is no good way to do that. Focus firing your interceptors on enemy interceptors, even if you can do it during a huge battle (which you can't) works poorly for two reasons. 1) all your interceptors chase after one squadron of enemy interceptors at a time and 2) your interceptors will waste enormous amounts of time killing every last enemy interceptor in the focus fired squadron without moving on to far stronger and more dangerous squadrons.
This could be redressed with the ability to set targeting priorities for your units. If any of you have read my posts, you know this is someting I've kind of harped about for a while, but I don't want to miss an opportunity to get it in there.
Personally, given how hard it is to protect bombers, I prefer to fill my hangars with all fighters and instead of using bombers for offense, I use heavy cruisers with a few LRFs and light frigates to run interference for the HC's. I will occasionally use bombers only in a couple of circumstances. Sometimes I'll use a handful of them merely as sacrificial goats to draw the attention of enemy intercetpors, so my interceptors can hunt enemy bombers without having enemy interceptors snapping at their heels (because in the abscence of bombers to target, intercetpors will chase other interceptors). I will also occasionally use significant numbers of bombers as TEC in a long game. That's because a mid to high level Kol with lvl 3 flak burst and a lvl 6 Dunov working together can pretty quickly enforce total control of the sky. Once that's done, then I release my bombers to attack and without significant interceptor opposition, it's pretty much a massacre. Problem is, this strategy is dependent on a pair of relatively fragile cap ships, so even with those two caps I don't prefer this strategy; it's too easily unraveled.
here is the real thing ere.... mass bombing totally kicks capital ships... just have them being guard by frigates they will do well on battlefield and take out more enemies to come...
but the best strategy is to hide them firs and release all interceptors first. then plunge in to the battle with the opposing fleet just make sure you have enough frigates and battle cruisers to face them off... at the midst of the battle release all bombers on our arsenal.... total devastation on all targets is sure thing... i already tested this so this is all i can say for now
i think fighters and bombers are a key part in the game but i think they are overpowered...i mean it takes a lot to shoot down a single bomber...especially with all the technology...i think bombers/fighters should be weaker but build much quicker...and maybe a larger quantity allowed (i'm not using the new beta at all so yeah)
Bomber SPAM works, to a degree, but it's easily countered. About the only reason I keep a kol around now is for the flak burst. In huge masses, it tends to work very well. Clearing a whole system in a raid is FAST. You can Insta-gig caps with ease, and that makes it seem like a great tactic.
But, it takes huge masses of strike craft. Five cruiser carriers doesn't do much. Ten and it starts to get interesting. It's not until you have 20+ that you get the kind of killing power you want, and thats only as a single group. And it's all gone in one or two flak bursts. Two Kols with Flak burst would wipe your offensive capabilities. One Kol, 10 gardas, and the rest in Hoshikos would give you some serious problems.
I use SC as raiding fleets and defense forces. They work great for that. As SPAM'd main forces, only against the AI or a new human.
I sware, if anyone ever bomber spams me, I will show them how bad of a tactic it is.
