Well today I managed to get myself up and on to an airplane which took me to Detroit earlier today. The flight wasn’t too bad actually, and I managed to get in a bit of rest. I had a window seat, and the weather was great most of the way there. I was able to get some great shots out of the window.
First stop was to Stardock HQ where I finally got to meet Brad (Frogboy) in person. I met almost everyone including CariElf, mittens, Boogiebac, Mormegil, and obviously Zoomba. It was really cool to meet everyone I have been working with for almost two years in person. Although it’s kind of weird to actually sit and talk with people you normally only converse with via e-mail, chat and phone.
After that a few of us including Larry (koop), GreenReaper, and Zoomba went out for dinner. I don’t have a lot of contact with GR normally, so it was really great to be able to sit and talk with him. I also got a nice tour of Ann Arbor, but I was disappointed that we didn’t get to check out the big Birkenstock sale that was going on.
So that was pretty much Day 1, and tomorrow we are going to sit and get some of the final preparations for the GUI Champs 2008 out. Stay tuned for more!
Cool. Guess it's nice to see who you work for, although, I'd rather not see who I work for. But that's just me.
Very cool. Keep the updates (and the pics) coming, ID.
Where was dinner? Is teh martini bar still there?
i'd rather not see the morons that work for me but alas I'm stuck with them a couple days a week minimum
Sounds like a good first day ID. Enjoy yourself.
Take a lot of shots man, I'm sure I would like to see everyone in person
I was going to say...So day 1 all we have is a pic out the window and a Birkenstock sale?
ZubaZ: Dinner was at Zingermans in Ann Arbor.
The martini bar in Plymouth is still there, never fear
My time will come.....
That's if your Zimmer frame doesn't set off Melbourne Airport metal detectors and....
Nah....hope you make it.
Most people tell me that I look better on email.......just saying.
We did a quick mini-tour of Ann Arbor. Went past the University, a quick trip. We passed the Diag (where they still hold the annual Hash Bash) and the law library (where union lawyer and anti-Creationist Clarence Darrow got his degree), got a quick glimpse of the bastion of Hippy-dom. We passed the steps of the Michigan Union where JFK introduced the Peace Corps concept.
I tried my best to corrupt him, but face it- we heeded the call of corned beef and pastrami. Even a Liberal like me has to have his priorities.
