All I play now is Major Stress' Star Trek mod demo, but I miss the cool planets from Sins Plus by Uzii. Does anyone know how to merge the two? I didn't want to ask in the actuall mod thread for SoA2 since Major Stress has more important things to do on the mod. If this has been covered somewhere else I appologize, just point me in the right direction.
It should actually be as easy as copying everything from Sins Plus GameInfo into SoA2's GameInfo and overwriting everything. The SoA2 team left all the original files in there, but they didn't modify any of them to my knowledge, so it should really be as easy as that. Try it, and let me know if it works. If it doesn't, I'll take a closer look.
Curse no edit.. the only thing you'll need to do is to look in each PlayerTech, PlayerPsi, PlayerPhase entities and find the new researches that Uzii added, and copy them into all the Playerrace.entity files for the SoA2 races. I think there were only a handful of new researches that Uzii added, and they're probably either at the top of the list, or bottom.

Try just merging the files first, it should start up with no errors, but you won't have the various new planet researches that Uzii added with the SoA 2 races.
Merging the files first works just fine. However when I add the lines into the reserch part of the Playerrace.entity files the mod won't load. I'm going to try a more systematic approach of changing one file at a time. I'm very new to this kind of thing so if you know a better way to figure out the problem I would appreciate it.
When you add the research lines, are you updating the research counter at the top of the section? It needs to match the number of research topics, or the mod will crash That's the most likely cause.
Ok I'm getting closer. The mod no longer crashes when loading but when I roll over the new planets the info card says string not found for planet type. Also in the research screen the new planet research has blank pictures and no description. Lastley the phaser and photon torpedo sounds no longer work. So I'm going back to be more careful of what I'm replacing from one mod to the other.
Right, the Strings file, forgot about that one, sorry. You'll have to essentially do the same thing that you did with the research. Open English.str in the Sins Plus Strings folder, find the new strings it added (probably at the very end of the file), and append them to the end of English.str in the SoA2. Count how many strings, and increase the counter at the top of the file as well. To make it easier with the strings, you can use a freeware file comparison programs like Beyond Compare that will show you which strings are different and quickly merge the files for you.
For blank pictures, copy the stuff from Sins Plus Textures to SoA2 Textures. SoA2 doesn't modify these icons I don't think, so this should be fine.
Now sounds.. sounds I'm not sure about. Need to think about that one for a bit.
Ok, I took a look a both mods and think i figured it out.
You need to copy everything from Uzii's GameInfo, Mesh, and Textures folders into your SoA2 mod but when it asks you if you want to override any files click on NO. Now from Uzii's 'window' folder copy these four files into your SoA2 'window' folder: HUDIcon-planet, InfoCardIcon-Planet, MainViewIcon-Planet, and Picture-Planet. It will ask you if you want to override them, click on YES.
The only two files left that you have to modify are the English.str and GalaxyScenarioDef. Unfortuanately, you cannot just copy them from one folder to another, you actually have to open them up and modify them. Fortuanately, I took the liberty of modifying those two files already and will upload them to filefront in a few minutes so that you can just download them. As soon as I upload the file I will post the link here.

Remember SoA 2 doesnt support merging of other mods with it. So if there are problems i cant help.

The upgrades did not appear, it could be an error on my part though.
Other than that every thing else worked.
By upgrades you mean research? That's because you need to add the new research topics into each of the SoA2 races' .entity files (and update the counter for # of research topics). I don't think Animage did that in his package.
You guys are totally right, I forgot to modify the player files.

I also believe that you still need to modify the Gas Giant Planet entity file to allow colonization. I am still unable to colonize it after updating the player files.
SLOVED!!! I just forgot to replace the Gas Giant planet entity file.
Yeah, i guess i forgot to mention that. All you need to do is replace the Gas Giant entity file from Sins Plus into SoA2. Hopefully thats the last the problem
Anyone try and add in the sins plus planets to the new version of the soa (002) I tried but I wound up with missing hud icons and a minidump shortly afte
well I figured it out. one space in the klingon player entity file after changing it to include the new ships. One space.....
Yup. entity files are very sensitive to things like that - using plain text without a markup language of some sort usually means that.
If it had been up to me I'd have used YAML, but I'm sure there was a good reason for the decision - probably memory use when using text entity files.
yep after that I had to edit the string info which took awhile as well but its all in and working now to adust the new ships to reflect the balance my friends and I made with the original version and this new version will be ready. And if your Reading Thank you Major Stress and Thank you Uzi all i can do is combine your work!
The sins plus planets aren't showing up on the zoomed out grid. They show up zoomed in but zoomed out to the phase lane grid their spaces are blank. Gonna have to figure this one out. What files are those?
