Formerly ConvertData GUI and ConvertXSI GUI, I've combined the two tools into one for ease-of-use
If placed in the same directory as ConvertData.exe / ConvertXSI.exe (or in the ForgeTools folder, which ConvertData\ConvertData.exe & ConvertXSI\ConvertXSI.exe exists), it will auto-detect the executables on first-run
Has settings now so that it will remember where you set the location of the executables if they're not located in the same folder.
Written in C# and compiled using the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
Download is here: http://public.dekhranic.com/DK - SoaSE Mod Tool GUI - 1.5.0.0.zip
Note: The recursive setting will only loop through one set of subdirectories, I.e Forgetools\GameData, Forgetools\Etc, and so forth, but NOT Forgetools\GameData\Backup
Also, when selecting a different directory to output to, it will only output files that it converts, it won't copy/paste misc files (such as .txt, etc), if you want this as an option let me know

I use the entrenchment convertdata for entrenchment files of course. It crashes on ether entrenchment or original sins files using proper convertdata.exe. Like i said i blame it all on VISTA. I never had so many stupid crash issues until i used this POS operating system.
major stress, have you tried my txtbin gui from my modding utility pack? it is at the bottom of the OP.
and yes I also thin that v**ta is a POS, but that 7 can atleast reduce the stresses compared to v**ta
one option to reduce the f ups in v**ta is to turn UAC off as this might be the point of difficulty with convertdata's
hope this helps

Might try the 1.5 version, Stress. Been using it the last couple weeks with few problems. Only troubles I've had are trying to convert Distant Stars with any non-.entity file in the GameInfo. I did find that I had old Entrenchment Beta files lying around in the regular SoaSE files, too.
Also, UAC and DEP are both horrible. Killing them eleminates almost every problem I've had with Vista.
Sorry for the lack of replies, been busy the last few days; Due to the changes in the recent SoaSE patches, the conversion program seems to crash if versions don't match up, or if you use say the Entrenchment conversion program on a non-entrenchment data file.
Your best bet is to a) try checking or unchecking the "Use Entrenchment", and try again, or to use harpo99999's tool to update the version of the data file
1.5 of my utility now detects if the conversion program crashes and will stop trying to process them, so I'd recommend using it, but the crashes are due to the ConvertData applications the developers provided. If my tool is actually the one crashing though, let me know >D
Edit: P.S. The tool was originally developed on Vista, though I'm now on the pre-release of Windows 7, so it should work fine under that, UAC excluding (sorry, I never turn mine on to test!), I don't have a 64-bit computer though to see if it causes any issues, I wouldn't think so though.
Bi-weekly bump, looking for translators or suggestions!
Bi-weekly bump, looking for translators or suggestions! At the very least a German translation so it's fully translated once more <.<
Late monthly bump, let me know if there's any issues with the new SoaSE patches, should work fine though!
I've searched through this thread and have been unable to find a fix to my problem. Whenever I run the GUI it never converts to txt. I get through to the "finish" button and see that "x" number of files converted ect; but when I then pull up the folder containing the files I attempted to convert they are all still in Binary. Clearly I am missing something :!
-I have made sure the program was routing through one sub-folder or less-
-Have done a clean install after initial problems-
-Running Entrechment 1.03 on WinXP-
-Also, assuming that I ever do get into the guts of this game, would I then need to set up a mod folder or can I run Sins with my changes as the default? (I don't play multi- so compatibility would not be an issue)
Any advice would be much appreciated!!!
Sorry for the late reply, I don't check here often anymore.
I'll re-install the game tonight and test it, though it should be working fine. You're pointing to a folder such as GameData (or it's parent folder), have recursive enabled, and the converted files are still in binary?
One thing to make sure, if you're converting the Original data files, you need to uncheck 'Use Entrenchment' (due to a limitation in the ConvertData executables provided by the developers), and if you're converting Entrenchment files, it needs to be turned on.
As for the mods, as far as I know once you create the mod and put it in the appropriate directory (somewhere under user profiles, I can't recall the specific directory), if you select it ingame then it should load that mod folder by default each time you start the game
will need update for Diplomacy
though Im sure you are working on it
perhaps updating a tool when the thing you're updating to is actually released might be a better plan
Hmmm is the host site down ? I can't access the DL link ? o..o
Here's a mirror of the download from the Distant Stars hosting until Dekhranic sorts his link out:

I can't get this to work properly. When pointing to the same folder in both boxes, I get a crash saying the file is in use already (which makes sense, but it probably shouldn't point to the same directory in the output box by default), in the other case (a different output directory) I get a bunch of binary files (time: 0h 0m 0s). Tried recursive, non-recursive, moving Window folder into a GameData folder, is pointing to ConvertData_OriginalSins fine. I was looking for a no-nonsense conversion utility rather than one that would force me to copy my entire program files directory or other nonsense ("take a folder, take one exe, spit out text files" is all that should happen) and this seems to be it, but it plain isn't working for me. I guess I'll write my own or something.
Sorry for the lack of updates everyone, I just finished moving to a different country, so things have been a bit hectic.
I just purchased the Diplomacy expansion and will be rewriting this tool from scratch. Hopefully the new one when released will fix the issues you're having Carbon016, I didn't run into them myself though, but I'll add optional debugging to the new version so that if the problem persists, we can track it down.
Any updates?
I find this tool to be easier to use than Harpo's(no offense intended)
syneptus, I understand that different people think in different ways, which is why I try to help & only offer alternatives.
