This is the "Release" topic for the SoA 2 mod. Candidate for Mod Database's 2008 Mod of the Year.
SoA 2 0.03b adds the unified Dominion (with Cardassian, and Breen units) as a playable faction. It is the second part of the 0.03 series. You do not need 0.03a3 to play it. The 0.03b is complete. Delete any previous version of the mod and replace with the new version. This is still a "Ships Only" Release. Structures, Defenses, Research, and Ability's are schedualed for the 0.04 update.

SoA 2 0.03b "The Second Dominion War" is the second of a two part release of 0.03. All four main factions are playable. We merged Manshooters Volumetric Explosions mod into SoA 2. While still a demo we are no longer going to use the term, because SoA 2 is starting to shape up into a full blown total conversion.
You MUST be running Sins version 1.1, 1.11, or 1.12 to play the mod. It will NOT WORK ON ENTRENCHMENT! or any other Sins beta. It also will not work on any versions of Sins before version 1.1
Read the Readme file for important installation instructions.
If you have an older version of SoA 2 just delete it from your mods folder, and replace it with the new version.
For best results install the SoA 2 mod on a clean install of latest update of Sins of a Solar Empire (version 1.12 as of this release).
Before you run the game for the first time after a clean install of Sins. Delete the "Ironclad Games" folder in c:\documents and settings\"your user name"\local settings\application data\. For Vista users its C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Local\. BACK UP any other mods, and screenshots BEFORE you do this. This will ensure there are no stray older version, and/or beta files are in your sins installation.
Disable "Ship Mesh Highlight Filter" in your options\effects Otherwise you will see some wierd lighting problems with modded ships. We have not had time to adapt the modded ships to use this feature yet.
Disable any and all Team Color settings. There is a bug in how Sins renders team color in 1.1. It affects both the mod, and the default sins models. The Team Colors bleed through on the entire mesh. Both vanilla game ships, and modded ships are affected by this. Ironclad switched the specular, and team color shaders with the 1.1+ updates, but it seems like they failed to implement the code to render them correctly. Turn team color on and off to see for yourself. The mod doesnt use team colors anyway so you do not need this feature enabled. Ill post a bug report about this later.
The mod has been tested only on the US English version of sins. Other languages may, or may not work. If you are using a language other than English rename the "English.str" file in the mods strings folder to whatever language you are useing. Example: "German.str" if you are using the German language version.
Future planned updates:
SoA 2 0.04 will concentraite on adding all of the factions proper Research trees, Ability's, Structures, Defenses, and balance tweaks if needed.
SoA 2 0.05 will be the final spit, and polish of the mod before going into the final version. Anything that we couldnt get to do in the previous versions will be done here. Model, and texture tweaks, effects, sounds, more balancing, etc. will be all be refined if needed.

Maxed out fleet doesn't mean ten capital ships, it means ten capital ships and a couple hundred supporting frigates and cruisers, yes I said couple hundred.
I tried with the sixth fleet cap upgrade researched, failed miserably. You're going to need at least eight without massive production sending in new ships as fast as they're destroyed.
while the borg ship was intended to show how much it would break the mod and designed to be a challenge with friends, its completely possible to kill it solo, if you do it right!
As Dragoon stated in previous posts, Yes some things are intentional, some things are currently being updated, some thing won't be done right away and everything is a demo!
I'm currently testing out entrenchment and put a hold on the mod while i evaluate what changes need to be done to make it work. It will definately change the mod. on the bad side, installing entrenchment i can't launch the standard game anymore. i'll have to figure out why.
you guys getting the minidump crash. you also have entrenchment beta by chance?
Let me rephrase that, what is the point of this repetitiveness? Not like its fun, and if you get stuck behind a pirate base at the begging of the game you have to restart the game.

i actually played a game where the pirate base was all the stood between me and the enemy. I had to use the fastest ships i had to push through to establish a base on the other side.
60 or so Akiras/Defiants along with about a dozen Galaxies/Sovereigns plus whatever smaller ships you decide to build should be enough to clean the pirate base.

Was Hoping Maybe someone could help me with this mod, it appears to be working fully expect one minor problem.... i have no maps.... i have all the music from DS9 and even the different pictures for the races and blah blah, but no maps to play on.

Guys let these outdated topics die. 0.03c doesnt work in entrenchment or the 1.16 update. We are stopping all work on regular sins, and working on entrenchment only. The regular Sins version of SoA 2 isnt really worth updating anymore due to all the new things that entrenchment offers. I dont even play standard sins anymore. We have a working beta of the mod for entrenchment 1.02 in progress now

Filefront was shut down so we cant use it for hosting anymore. ModDB will still have its own hosting.
WRONG! Filefront was going to be shutdown but the original owners bought it from Ziff Davis so it is still alive.
When I went to play the game w/the mod activated, there was no maps to select. All of the scenerio lists were empty. Anyone know what's wrong?
yes, you did not remove the galaxy folder from the mod, and the mod has v2 maps in it which v3 will not show in 1.16.
just go into the mod's folder & remove the galaxy folder.

ok, I dunno what's up... Installed the trek mod and the game seems to work, except i have no maps and I am unable to create maps. =/ I am running v1.16 and I dunno what I am doing wrong ( using vista ) I have got other mods to work, needs helps =O!!!!
Weird, I'm using 0.03c with 1.16...
Question though: do the support cruisers that say they can repair ships actually do so? I don't see the ability listed.. but neither are the capture neutral extractors ones for Miranda class ships and those work.
Borg cube... first attempt at that, I thought the pirate base was repairing it so I flattened that first and took too many losses to kill the cube after finding out it had nothing to do with it. Second attempt I took out the pirate fleet and cube and only lost 46 fleet points worth of ships.
I don't have entrenchment yet but hope to get it in the future to be able to play the updated game. Not having the ships limited to tech levels kind of makes it a little too easy...
This is a great game but I'm a really impatient guy and was wondering if there was a faster resource mod that is compatible with this one.
Did this thing die ? After playing Star Trek Online, I got the itch and installed this again, its quite a fun mod, when is the next patch coming out?
