The first beta of Demigod is looking to be on September 5th. We wanted to do it at the end ofAugust but we're all going to be attending PAXX (Penny Arcade trade show) that week and we want to be here to help people get started.
Now, just so you know, the first beta we are intentionally removing a lot of gameplay elements just so that we can get people to focus on compatibility and performance. We want this game to be about twice the performance as Supreme Commander had (a LOT of work has gone into lowering the hardware requirements). Multiplayer in the initial beta will be LAN only but you'll be able to play against an AI player.
Once we have all that nailed down, we can add the actual gameplay elements, broaden the multiplayer, and go from there.
My question is will Demigod have the same problem Supreme Commander has, as in the longer the game progress the more lag you will see?
I can play supreme commander forged alliance Campaign on High quality (I manually made everything Max, and I even have 4th Dimension Mod) with moderate lag, but the longer the game goes the worse the lag gets.
Also, what is PAX?! (Note: I have not been a beta tester, but I happen to be good at finding cheap tricks to win that usally need to be nerfed )
Demigod is supposed to run much better than Supcom. Supcom has a problem because high unit counts and physics = lots of work for your computer. Demigod has fewer units so it should lag less.
I always thought the lag was caused by advanced probility counters, like for instance early game theres not a lot of probility running but late game with all the units I figured thats a lot of probility to count.
Thanks.
Yeah, that was always fun in the sins beta.
Yeah. HOWEVER Demigod has higher resolution textures, more shader effects, more particle effects, and mesh deformations(the bending with animations and such, rather than rigid bodies like in supcom) which all hurt performance.
So it's a give and take.
But the big difference I imagine is in Demigod you can turn down the texture resolution in options, turn off the shader effects, turn down the number of particles(i'd assume they have this too, simplify the animation quality(also assuming, many games have this but some don't).
In supcom you can't turn down the number of units or projectiles.(well yuo can play 2vs2 and smaller games, or less max units But that effects gameplay, not just a setting.) The things that lag Supcom a lot can't be turned down.
So it's probably more that Demigod runs better on low end machines, but you can turn it up to look beautiful and poop on your high end machine.
I'm gonna have to guess no. That'd be like people on different LANs trying to play a LAN game together: not gonna find each other
If you mean as in having multiple NICs in one machine, that'd probably require the connection to be bridged, or otherwise using Hamachi or similar.
