Why does my main screen look so much differant!!!!!!!! SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats because youre using XSI 7 instead of XSI modeling tool
It is still a valid for xsi 6.0, and mod tool. A damn GOOD tutorial. It may be necromancy, but STICKY this topic...NOW
just made up a tutorial of me working if you guys want to check it out. It's nothing fancy and wasn't scripted. You'll probably notice me saying Umm a whole lot. Trying to think fo what to show. Hope this helps, if you guys have any questions, ask away. I'll answer and maybe post some more tut's
The link is http://tristangoodes.com/xsitutorial/xsitutorial.html
Just beware, it takes a while to start. don't be impatient
Also, I'm sick in the video, so i'm talking pretty quiet. I appologize. When I get time I'll redo this and make it better.
hoiw bout making your own ship?? is there any tutorials for that???
The tools I show in the tutorial are the only tools I ever really use to model. Not sure what you'd learn by watching me make a ship.
The ship I'm working on is under NDA so I can't record it. Sorry
Really it is up to you on how you make your own model. There are many right ways to do it. We can only show you what "not" to do. The tutorials are nothing more than a guide to begin learning from, because everyone develops thier own methods of modeling over time. Google is your friend here, because there are tons of modeling tutorials out there just waiting to be discovered. I still say this topic needs sticky even though it is not complete.
I still prefer to make my models using 3dsmax then convert them over to XSI only because max is the program i have the most experience with. Some will find XSI easier, and thats cool, but i still think max is less unforgiving.
Off topic: A good question is why are most gaming companys shunning 3dsmax now?
well, Max is expensive for starts, When sins was in production, we switched to xsi because
A. It was cheaper.
B. It's a faster modeling package.
C. All the artists on the game were most comfortable in it.
The reason I like xsi is because it feels like you're sculpting. If you guys want me to model something, post a picture and I'll do it, but I won't be talking. All that I will do is record my keyboard again and just model away.
Little bit of background. I started to use 3dsmax when it was at version r2.5. I used it up till version 6. taking that into account I had 6 years using it. i switched to XSI when I went to Vancouver Film School and seriously I've never looked back.
As Major said though, every modeler develops their own style and workflow. I have developed a workflow which has allowed me to get to where I need to fast. That is what is most important in this industry, getting results fast.
question though MajorStress, Why do you find max is less unforgiving than XSI? I'm just curious.
AAAAA My navigation toolbar is missing by default! How do I add it?
Which one do you mean?and are you using xsi or xsi mod tool?
well thx for the help can you do this ship on me... just fill the other deatails if you want i dont have the whole pic of it... it really is a bad ass! ship that i want to have!
Because i cant do simple tasks like selecting individual tri's without having to fight with the UI in XSI. Even lasso select doesnt work that well. Trying to edit a mesh for me in XSI is a major fight. I dont have these problems in max which is why i am sticking with max for modeling.
Can't really see what's going on here. Have a larger clearer image?
