Try deleting the xin_flotsam files from the Mesh folder. As long as you have showErrors FALSE (the default) in your settings file it shouldn't complain. There are 4 of them in that folder.
I just played a direct connect game with the Bailknight mod and all I have to say is WOW! It's definitely a huge improvement over the standard graphics. My queston: Does it increase the strain on people's computers? Would it cause lag on 5v5's with large fleet sizes on the huge random single star map? Does turning down the graphics quality in the settings decrease the strain on video cards and CPU?
No, no, that's the nifty fragments, delete that and all you get is fireballs, which are boring without shrapnel!
If you want to get rid of the corpses, delete the body_mangled1.mesh and body_mangled2.mesh from the /mesh folder.
For me playign ti online without the mesh and gameinfo folders I can play 5v5 be watching a fleet battle with 6 people fightign in it and it runs fines. But I ahve a powerfull cpu. But I thinka firend has tested it and said his performance increased. But if you ahve the gameinfo and mesh files then it miht lag more as that will add dedris witch used up game resorces.
Warning. Your post did not go through extensive proof reading.
Anyway, if I just dump all your graphics into the game's default folders, will it allow me to play with people who use the vanilla game files?
If I install the mod as you say above, enabling it through SinS, will I only be able to play with others who have installed the mod?
EDIT: Please note that my post is not intended to offend. Also, I used Harpo's Mod Updater successfully on this mod (1.02 --> 1,03). I haven't had it crash on me yet.
I'll report back here after I finish my game.
EDIT: Game was stable, though I only played for an hour or so. I don't know whether all the effects transferred across as I haven't played the mod in 1.02. The effects were non-standard.
Hey guys,
I'm playing Entrenchment v1.1 right now, installed it yesteday, succesfully. I saw this mod on YouTube and it seems awesome. I downloaded the v1.3 download link provided some posts above figuring the V1.1 mod was good for V1.3, so it should be vica versa as well. I've extracted the downloaded to the correct path, but when I click "enable mod" the whole game just freezes up and I have to manually shut off my computer.
Any thoughts?
I stress-tested the Volumetric Explosions mini-mod, and have designed the flotsam system to cause minimal performance impact overall. Basically, only when you have a lot of ships exploding in a very small window of time will you get significant slowdowns - the flotsam debris lasts for some 15 seconds, after which it is cleared, while the sum total of polygons does not exceed the polycount of the ship that just got destroyed.
Okay you lost me but here si what you need to do to play teh mod online with otehr people who do NOT have the mod instaled.
Download the mod and install it correctly. Once done disable the mod.
God into the bailknight mod folder and delete booth the "gameinfo" and "mesh" folders from the mod completely.
Then restart sins and enable the mod again you should now be able to play online with cooler looking graphics then the other dude who will have default graphics.
TAKE NOTE that removing the gameinfo and mesh folders does remove some fo the cool graphic addons. But ti still looks better then the original.
Bram as for you 3 things I can think ofve.
1: Your file was corrupted somewhere is the process of instaling it. Try redownloading it.
2: You instaled the mod wrongly. Or you migth be having a conflic with and other mod if you tryign to run mroe then 1 mod.
3: Their might be a problem with your instalation of sins. You migth want to verify it via impulse and try to fix it or reinstall sins completely.
without further knowlege of your rig or more details ont he problem i cannot help further. From my own moddign knowlege I woudl belive the mod was corrupted in the download.
I installed the mod correctly in the directory and I don't have any other mods active while trying to activate this one. Nor do I have a problem with Sins either, SOASE runs perfect, so does Entrenchment. I did download a pirate mod for it ages ago, but that one works perfectly as well. So I guess piont 2 and 3 aren't valid here, guess I might try and re-download then...
Thanks for the reply!
*EDIT*
I think it might have something to do with my copy after all. I downloaded the Distant Stars v1.01 mod for Entrenchment. Installed it correctly, and enabled it without any trouble. But when I clicked "Apply changes" my computer froze up again. So either I need to patch up my Entrenchment copy, or my computer cannot handle the mod.
Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2, 1.77 GHZ
1024Mb RAM, 128Mb Video memory
I know, my system is very outdated, but that's the great thing about SOASE; the ability to play this game with low specs. As I said, on small maps this game plays perfectly smoothly but tends to lag much on the mega maps.
Thanks for the walkthrough EadTaes, that's everything I need to know.
The bit about Harpo's Mod Updater is that the currently downloadable version of this mod is for Entrenchment version 1.02. So I used the mod updater to automatically change the files in the mod to make them compatible with Entrenchment v1.03.
I was just pointing out the tool for Bailknight in case he (she?) hasn't seen it.
@Bram_Turismo
Check what version of Entrenchment you have, if it isn't v1.03, update it.
Also, for the Distant stars mod you want version 0.85 for Entrenchment. Get it here. Version 1.01 of the mod is for SoaSE, not entrenchment.
Bailknight's mod is for Entrenchment version 1.02. It *might* work with v1.03, I didn't try. If it doesn't work, download Harpo's Mod Updater and follow the instructions it gives you.
Hope that helps
Yeah, updating Entrenchment might be the best thing to do. I'm currently running version 1.1 and every mod seems to be for either v1.2 or v1.3 so I guess I need to update
thanks!
I seem to have a problem similar to Bram. When I press the "Apply changes" button after enabling the mod the game freezes for 2 or 3 seconds and then hear an error sound comming from the OS behind the game. At that point there's nothing else I can do than alt+tab and then I see that the error sound was a minidump and after I press that away the game crashes. I'm gonna try Harpo's Mod Updater as Draz mentioned when I get it all sorted, the man is really lacking order in his texts.
I sent the minidump to ironclad but they said I'd better ask here since it's about a mod.
I tried once to just enable the mod without applying it, and then started a game and the mod acctualy worked. I restarted the game and had to re-enable the mod since I hadn't applied the change and tried a new game again. This time it didn't work though (just vanilla graphics, no crash). Tried a second time but still nothing.
Edit: Harpo's Mod Updater didn't help.
Oh I seen the openign title links to the 1.02 version in big letter at the top. Thats wrong. Their is a new linka few pages back dunno if it's bailknight himself or anatar that did it again. Think it was anatar.
Oh yea, I forgot to say. I've tried both the one Anatar fixed (the one for 1.03) and the original 1.02. When I used Harpo's Mod Updater I used the original, otherwise the 1.03. I get the same minidump problem whichever option I try.
Edit: If Draz, or someone else who have successfully updated and tested the mod, could upload your updated files so I could try them I'd be very happy
bram, you seem to have a LACK of RAM problem as sins really wants at least 3gb (1gb for sins & os, 2gb for mod(s) and maps/simulation of galaxy), yes plains sins/entrenchment will run on 1gb with settings at low-medium, but will dump eventually, and mods because of the additional material in them want more ram
harpo
Bram, you are not running v1.1 of Entrenchment, because there is no Entrenchment v1.1. If the mod is talking about v1.1 then it is talking about Vanilla SoaSE, not entrenchment.
The latest patch for entrenchment is v1.03, install impulse and get that to patch you to the latest version.
Sarlocal, if you're already on the latest version and harpo's mod updater didn't seem to work perhaps you should try the version that EadTaes mentioned in the post above yours. If that doesn't work and you have only a small amount of RAM, the RAM could be the problem, as Harpo describes.
Draz, if you mean the version Anatar made and EadTaes mentioned above, then yes I've tried it.
I have 2GB RAM, so it might be a little too low. But if the RAM is the problem, shouldn't the game crash when the game acctually need the RAM?
I don't know whether it would. I don't mod Sins and I don't know how Sins handles mod files. If it loads them all into memory when you enable the mod, that could cause you to run out of RAM space.
That said, my PC only has 2gb of RAM and Sins runs fine. On the other hand, my RAM runs at an overclocked 1100 MHz.
Ok, I'll upload my version. To make it work, extract all files to
C:\Documents and Settings\[your username here]\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Entrenchment v1.03
Enable bkg_Entrenchment_v1.03 to get the graphics but not the game changes, enable bkg_Entrenchment_v1.03_Gameinfo_changes to get the game changes as well.
I compressed the files with winRAR, so you'll need a program that can handle rar files to get the mod files. You can get winRAR here.
Grab my version from here
Hmpf. I enabled (and applied) bkg_Entrenchment_v1.03_Gameinfo_changes without problem, but when I tried to enable bkg_Entrenchment_v1.03 either before, at the same time or after gameinfo_changes the game crashed. I take it that's a pretty good sign my RAM can't handle it, if it works like you guess it does. Makes sense if that's the problem anyway.
Bah, I was looking forward to using this mod. Guess I'll have to stick with vanilla graphics untill I get a better computer.
Thanks a lot for the help though Draz, very appreciated!
It's alright, sorry I couldn't help you.
I just hope Bailknight doesn't take offence to me uploading a version of his mod. I'd take it off fileplanet now you're done with it, but I don't have the option to.
Strange, pretty wierd if there's no option to remove your own files...
I doubt Bailknight will be mad though, after all we're only trying to keep hos mod alive untill he gets back, if ever he does. In the case he will take offence, the blame should be on me, not you.
I wasn't logged in when I uploaded it.
Huh, I didn't realize he was gone, but I didn't read any of the thread, so that's hardly surprising.
New patch this doent work again. Annatar we need ya. Needs a patch update to 1.04. It won't work no more even without the gameinfo and mesh folders.
The SKY is falling...The SKY is falling!!!....lol
Yeah such a shame Bailknight dissappeared maybe diplomacy will bring him back.
We can hope at least.
