As the # of animated wallpapers submitted increases, we're having to establish some guidelines on what is and isn't going to be accepted:
Additional rules on fair use of video clips:
You hould have received a rejection email with the reason why.
Please check your email spam folder if you haven't.
reason says i can only use 15 seconds of something i didnt completely make....which is confusing as i only used 3 seconds for both of them, and neither of them broke 15 seconds in length. ....i used 2 scenes from the movie that are only about 54 frames in length. (less than 3 seconds)I guess i should take that as a compliment, as they thought the length was natural, but they obviously didnt read my about section, or they would have read the explanation there.
i mean, one of them was 5 seconds in length total
You can re submit and I will ask that moderator to take another look.
I too had a submission rejected but the only reason listed in the email was a link to the guidelines. I'm trying to understand precisely which aspect was against the guidelines. The dream was only 5 seconds of a clip from a video game. I listed all author information as the company that created the game including a link to their website. What really confuses me is there are other clips already on Wincustomize from the same game so I assumed it fell under the fair use policy.
Here is what you said in the author comments...
A dream I converted for myself from the Warcraft burning legion that I wanted to share with the community.
The resolution is large enough to spread across multiple displays but looks best on a single monitor (or mirrored) using Fit or Fill adjustment.
Heres what was told to you.....
***You need to provide the URL to the site this was taken from so we may check to make sure they gave permission for you to use this.***
Not sure what is hard to figure out! Maybe you didn't finish reading it.
I see. The first submission didn't appear to have taken, so I uploaded a second time and received 2 emails simultaneously early in the morning. One had the reason for rejection and the second didn't.
Anyway, I just want to work through that so I can hopefully share this with other fans; Much like AzDude in his Warcraft dream https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/dream/6877/
The URL is in the Dream properties. I credited them in the Dream itself. Should I also provide that in the upload comment section?
What happened to the dreams? I have been gone for a while, and it seems most of the dreams being posted now are just copies of another company's animated desktops? I understand "fair use", but if a commercial company is making and selling animated desktops and you simply copy a video of their animated desktop and rerelease it as a dream, that seems almost like a ripoff of their product? Is this allowed now?
The rules were established in 2007. See the Op.
Nothing has changed...
if i understand correctly, ShiningSquirrel is asking about this part of the WC rules:
https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/dream/7289/ for example is using copyrighted material by 3Planesoft, a company that is making money with animated wallpapers/screensavers. http://www.3planesoft.com/fish-screensavers/caribbean-islands-3d-screensaver/
imho the whole gallery is a big ripfest caused by obsessive compulsive disorder. there is also some few nice original content that can hardly be found.
moshi....this thread/post IS the specific Guidelines for Dreams Submissions, hence its title....
yes? this is why i quoted the "specific Guidelines for Dreams Submissions" from here: https://forums.wincustomize.com/144934/page/1/ (no need to click the link, it's the initial post of this thread)
moshi...yes, the OP is the guidelines.
If you have a specific query might I suggest contacting the author for clarification...
However the one to which you refer appears to be over 25% and has been removed.
Moshi has it right.
It seems almost every single one of 3planesoft's products have been copied and posted here by a couple of "authors", some of them multiple times by different people. These are commercial products that have been poorly copied and made available here, some with links actually pointing right back to 3planesoft and some with nothing at all.
It's one thing to make a dream from a movie, but it seems shady to copy another artists work and use it to make a poor copy of their own commercial product.
I mean 3planesoft is selling screensavers with animated desktops. Their animations are being made in to dreams and distributed for free. I just can't see how it is fair use to take another artists product they are selling, copying it and giving it away for free?
As far as My Gallery is concerned ( don't know about others ) any 3planetsoft video that was
uploaded as a dream ( within WC site guidelines ) has been deleted.
I went trough my gallery and deleted any dreams thought to be made with their video.
If I missed one let me know and I can delete .
So in fairness to 3planetsoft.com you can go to their site and check out their options.
Note: some deleted dreams might take a little time for the delete to clear out of the gallery .
As in the guidelines above it has been designated that 'fair use' would be no more than 25% of a total video or 15 seconds - whichever is the lessor - to be used/uploaded in converted format [dream].
