(sorry if i end up doubble posting but as far as i can tell my first post attempt did not work)
is this going to be made compatible with TA soon?
I registered on the site weeks ago, but my account still hasn't been activated. I registered there as Drakos.
Please activate new account with username Lorca01
Thx
Allright, this is just getting ridiculous.
TO USERS:
Can somebody who already has his account activated please post the login and password information here?
I am sure none of you guys is using some official password and logins for forums, so I think it would not hurt. I would do the same right know, but it seems my travel passport will be done faster than this activation procedure.
TO AUTHOR:
Please activate new account with username "namez"
THANK YOU
Read elsewhere on here, or on the other thread you posted in.... .Han is always away, and has to work on the mod by himself. He often spends weeks away from his machine. So i''m sure getting around activating accounts is the lowest priority he has.
As people have also been told, the DA version of the mod was very unstable anyway, so even if you have it, you will suffer regular crashes. After the last release, TA was announced so Han decided to halt work on the mod until he had gotten a chance to see what's new. Since then, his team shrank to just himself.....
However, I will post over on the forums to see if Han is about and see if he can spare some time to activate any outstanding accounts. I also have an idea that may be able to bring some aspects of his mod out early... .though no promises on that.
Allright, I am sorry, I red the forum, but I simply can't comprehend the choice to leave account activation to administrator who does not have the time to do so. I really do not believe Han is checking the registered users, because, as you have pointed out, it is his lowest priority. What is the purpose of such activation apart from an annoyance? Normally phbBB provides activation through email, which works perfectly. I understand it is author's decision to restrict access but if he doesn't want us to have the release, then he shouldn't advertise its existence publically and we could all hapilly play something else.
Considering the argument that BETA4 release is unstable: Well, thats how it is with mods and I am certainly not going to complain and demand a quick fix from the author of something which is a freeware. If it crashes, it crashes. Windows BSOD all the time. And if it crashes a lot, then I believe there is A LOT of work to be done, so then I can simply disregard waiting for the whole thing and again play something else. Necessary to point out that I still have the BETA2 release somewhere, which was stable and running without any serious problems. (I can share that, if anyone is interested).
If you would be so kind to ask Han whether he could activate all people interested, or even better provide help with account activation, or just give us all the forum access, I would be GALACTICALLY grateful. Perhaps I can even write an epic poem about you. Please understand, that the only thing I want from Han is a possibility to download something which he advertised as being AVAILABLE:
"12/16/07 - Star Trek for DA - BETA 4 IS AVAILABLE ON OUR FORUM"
By the way do you have information about the TA version release? Is it going to be AVAILABLE in say a month? A year?
Please, don't misunderstand me. I do value the author's work, otherwise I wouldn't even bother with writing this. It is a great mod, an awesome job, the best Star Trek related game ever made and a horrible shame that it is so hard to get it.
I am very interested in BETA 2, if you have a way to share it, please do!
As long as Dderidex warbirds, kvort birds of pray and Galaxy class "exploration ships" are there, and AI plays his good GalCiv2 game, I am all for it!
I found it, it is BETA V3. Dunno the difference but it is for Dread Lords. And yes Borg cubes, Species 8472, it is all there. Here are the RS links:

And here is a Star Trek Universe Map and a Federation Scenario I found and I remember playing it without any crashes.:

From what I understand, the activation process was done the way it is due to their previous page being hacked and messed up by another team. Or at least there was suspicion that it was another team..... I wasn't very active on the boards at this time, so i'm not 100% certain, so don't quote me on that.
Han hasn't updated in a while, but his last post stated that he has 2 of four initial planned races all ported into TA and Running well. If you are willing to take an older stable release ( which the DL versions were ) and port it into TA, then that's great. I personally rebuilt the last release for TA, then included Starwars and BSG and Staragate ships into one mod. If I was able to port ships from SFC or Bridgecommander, I'd personally do so, and get permission to release them. I've long said, we should have a system like those above games, where people can pick and choose what ships they want in their game... but Galciv seems to be geared towards big mods, rather than single ships.
There are also one or two people on the forums building their own versions, one person is doing an TOS mod I believe.
I have made a post calling for Hans attention over on the forums, and hopefully he'll get round to activating them soon. I know it can be frustrating for people who wait weeks/months, but as i've said elsewhere, patience is all is needed. He has assured everyone the mod is not dead, because even on his forums, people have questioned what's going on.
Hopefully the release that's appeared above will be enough to satisfy you, and if you can work it so that it's good for TA, all the better..... Good luck
Coooool
As soon as I finish my current DA medium size galaxy game which is, by far, the most interesting GalCiv2 game I ever had, I'll try this out.
Would it be possible to make this DL mod work in DA? From my experience, AI in DA is FAR SUPERIOR to the one in DL.
The only problem I'm aware of will be in regards to race abillities, and you'll lack a space miner at the start of a new game.
Though you may be able to sort that in game in the race selection area.... it's' been a long while since i've ported from DL to DA.
@ Supersy
GalCiv2/mods, then go to options and activate the mod. Just tried it and it works.
Btw I do not know anything about porting DL version to DA, I tried it but there seems to be a problem with race selection right from the start. Models are not loaded et cetera. If someone has the DA version, please share it / let us know how to do it. By that time we might even have the luck of getting the BETA4 forum link.
dragoon: By the way if you have the forum access, can't you give us the download link to the BETA4 version? I understand you will not post it here, but a private message would suffice. Thank you.
I have no idea how to make this mod work!!!! Somebody, please help!
I have downloaded all 15 files from RapidShare, but they are in unusable format .zip.001.html. Usually, when the stupid .html extension is present, I just delete it and the files work. But where do you place the numbers? .zip.001 type of file also doesn't open. And when I renamed all 15 files like this: StarTrekBetaV3001.zip, the computer reports "unexpected end of archive" and "the archive is either in an unknown format or damaged".
BTW, there is no GalCiv2\mods folder to be found, and the instruction on how to activate the mod, which can be found here: http://www.i-mod-productions.com/showthread.php?t=662 makes no sense to me whatsoever. What "attached xml file"? What are they talking about???????
OK, I found the program which joins the split .zip file. I previously thought that split .zip files work in the same way as .rar, but they don't. Also, once I checked the option "use modes" in DL options, new folder has appeared. I have extracted the .zip file, so, now I have a 1.28 GB StarTrekBetaV3.exe file located inside folder C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Mods\Default. There are also seven subfolders. I guess that this mod should have to be somehow installed, but I don't know how to do it. If I launch the .exe file through Windows explorer, the entire system freezes and I have to go for hardware reset.
On the other hand, I can't do anything in the game itself. When I try to browse for mod in the game's options menu, browsing doesn't work. I can only confirm the given mod path C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Mods\Default and it doesn't work. What am I doing wrong??
You almost got it right. Just dont put it in the Default folder but make somethin like a mods/Star Trek folder. Then run the game (Dread Lords) and in the options menu, select the mod, which will have the name of the Star Trek folder you named it. Enjoy.
It didn't work like you said, I've tried it. But, eventually, I made the mod work, and it was the most unusuall installation I've ever seen. It seems you have to install the mod before launching the game, not just copy the .exe file.
I created a Mods\Star Trek folder, and copied StarTrekBetaV3.exe in it. Then I launched the file. Even though nothing was showing up on screen, the hard drive was working, and I let it do it's thing, whatever that may be. After 10 to 15 minutes, a normal instalation window finallly popped up, listing extracted files one by one. It turned out that the file has created a folder of his own, outside the folder I put it in, it was Mods\StarTrekBetaV3 folder (or something like that, I am not typing from home now), so when it finished it's thing I have deleted the folder I created, because nothing was extracted there.
Now the mod works!
BTW, I've noticed that the creator of the mod has set the default research rate to "very slow", upon launch of the Star Trek scenario. Is there a reason for that in something on the custom map, or is it just his preference? I don't like slow research, that's why I ask.
And I have already replaced his in game music with some better Star Trek tunes. Don't you just hate the terrible TOS opening theme? Good that it's so simple to get rid of it.
Ad extraction problems: Well of course you have to extract the StarTrekBetaV3.exe but I really did not have the problems you did describe. Sounds more like a slow hard drive. Dunno.
Ad research rate: well I have not even noticed . But you should be able to use the TA editor to change it. Or just look it up in the xml file, it is easier than you think.
Ad music: please do share your tunes, the soundtrack is killing me, it feels like I am in a Russian nuclear silo
As for the research rate, it can be simply changed in the galaxy type menu, I just thought that the creator of the map had some idea in mind when he set it as very slow.
About the "TA editor" - whatever that is... Are you able to make this mod to work in DA or TA? If so, please explain, in detail.
As for the tunes...
On this site: http://www.trekcore.com/ you can find quite a few free and easily downloadable .mp3 from all five series and some from the movies. And this torrent: http://extratorrent.com/download_info/1252023/(Mp3)+Complete+Star+Trek+Movie+Soundtracks.html has the soundtrack from all 10 movies. It doesn't have many seeders so it takes longer to download.
After that, you just need to rename the tunes to space00.mp3, space01.mp3, etc. and put them in C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Mods\Star Trek Beta V3\Music folder.
One more question. I which folder should I have put the mod .exe file before I launched it? I guess that the proper location would have accelerated the instalation process.
Wow, thank you so much. I've been waiting for activation for 4 days now, and wanted to come in and say please don't advertise the forum if we can't get activated! I'm such a sad little closet Trekkie. (Trekker? Do they still prefer this?)
Can't wait to use these. Again, thanks so much.
Edit: Are you suggesting, good sir, that Russian Missile Silos have a poor taste in music? (I'm bored while downloading)
Nemos, whats the program u used, or can u step-by-step the process for me, cuz i don't understand how to put them together at all. or if anyone else knows, can ya help me out?
i have registered on www.han891.com but my account is still not activated. can the person responsible for this please activate it? my account is "medicina12345"
thx
