Screenshots and videos are very helpful. Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post. Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.
If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions. If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.
Thank you for your interest and any time you put into making Fences 5 a better product.
You're welcome. Indeed, everybody should know that not everyone has time for this. With all the money they are now asking with this subscription scam, I think they can afford some decent beta-testing.
Moderator note: The Fences subscription is $9.99 a year. With it, any current subscription will get updates and any major version 'upgrades' (Fences 5 -> 6 -> etc) for as long as the subscription is current.
Got the new 5.5 Fences, and bugs with it. Yesterday, at three different times, some icons left their Fences and moved into the Fence that is set for new icons. This happened again when I turned on the computer this morning. Does 5.5 support a Fence that collects new icons? I have 8 fences and 176 icons. It is very disturbing when the icons don't stay put.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Is this happen on Fences 5.53? Fences 5.53 come with a better layout engine. You might need to Start from fresh, don't used your saved layout. Setup the layout manually all over again. Save it and see if the issue still there after reboot. Also, review this guide: https://stardock.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SHC/pages/1261666307/Fences+and+Multi-Monitor+with+Docking+Stations.
Note the part on.
As of 5/22/2024, new installations of Fences 5.53 will have the “Backups” setting “Store my layout on a per-multimonitor-configuration basis” enabled by default. Existing installations of Fences will need to manually configure this setting.
Thank you.Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Pleased to read this.
Your experience and results are valuable to us and we thank you for the time and effort, TheAncient1.

Yeah everything in life becomes a subscription this is the fashion. Anti-virus model. Very nice for the firms, much less for the people.
I have the same problem. I sometimes play an older game in low resolution (and that is why I only discovered this today), when leaving the game all the gence on the right side of the screen where placed more to the left, overlapping the Fences there.
But a solution of restoring a back-up is only temporarely, because next time it happens again. And I really don't like a work-around every time. All this started after the last update of Fences.
I use Win 11, 23H2.
As has been asked in other replies, we REALLY would like to know if you change the layout option if this resolve your issue, Jagio. Please review this at your earliest convenience:

Thanks, it helped me.I now have the settings as shown and the problem seems to be gone:

I'm so confused. I've used Fences for many months. It's been very frustrating that I couldn't get it to move to my external primary monitor. I was so excited that 5.5 was supposed to fix that.
NOPE!! Doesn't fix it.
I've tried all the suggestions that I can find and nothing fixes it.
My monitor is plugged into a USB-C Hub. No fix. I changed the HDMI connection to a direct plug in my computer. No fix.I've tried multiple settings changes. I've done the Win-P PC Screen Only then Extend Display. I've rebooted after each change - probably about 10 reboots now.
I've spent 1.5 hours and nothing has changed.
I discovered this post by Adam McGuiness on May 22, 2024 https://stardock.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/SHC/pages/1261666307/Fences+and+Multi-Monitor+with+Docking+Stations
It can't do anything with 5.5 because it has screen captures of the menus from version 4. That is no help at all. If it's really going to be a help it needs to have the screen captures for 5.5BOTTOM LINE - there needs to be a strong, in-your-face post that gives the SPECIFIC STEPS for someone to install 5.5 and then what exact settings to change - with correct screenshots of each step - to undo the past wrong behavior and actually start working to move Fences to the Primary External Monitor.

My Fences = version 5.5.3

I agree fully with better documentation. I have a second computer that only runs a video camera. And it has Fences 3 on it. Seems to work just fine, although I sometimes get an icon hiding between the two monitors. On my main computer, things are now better, but there are still a few wandering icons. Thankfully they automatically get moved into the fence that is set up for all new files. Saves me hunting for them.
With some exceptions, it has for all the internal testing we have done and from most of the feedback since release. The task here is to see that it's not for you too, hank.
Since there are other items in this release, where clients could report other issues, I have created this thread to specifically address monitor concerns.
https://forums.stardock.com/528229/fences-55-new-render-engine-thread
I have added some clairity and instuctions to specifically address some of your questions about process and troubleshooting.
After reviewing it, your feedback there would be welcome and appreicated.
Documentation updates are always underway. Hank noticed (and we thank him for it) that 1 screenshot was not properly updated but has been since. We have also added some more to it:
https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1261666307/Fences+and+Multi-Monitor+with+Docking+Stations
The documentation is better, but still "unclear".
I finally tried something else. I MANUALLY moved everything on my laptop's desktop to the external monitor.
Then I told FENCES to SAVE BACKUP.
It works now.
I suggest that you update this statement. I don't think it's clear enough.
I suggest saying specifically ----
"If updating to 5.5 doesn't automatically move FENCES to your primary monitor, MANUALLY drag everything from the monitor that it shouldn't be on to the monitor that you want it to be on. After resizing and arranging as desired on the correct monitor, Open FENCES > BACKUPS and select SAVE BACKUP."
That's my suggestion.I'm glad I tried manually moving everything. THAT was the only thing that fixed the problem.
I am very pleased to read that it is now resolved for you, hank.
That said, you only posted a portion (1 item actually) of what I wrote in the new thread I noted that was going to be dedicated to resolving monitor issues:
https://forums.stardock.com/528229/page/1/#3932479:~:text=and%20connection%20types.-,Troubleshooting,-If%20you%20are
In step 4, that would seem to include your suggestion, yes?
What I will included is a link for 'Backup' and replace 'snapshot' (since its not called that anymore) so that people know how to work that.
Again, happy to see this resolved for you, and thanks for the feedback.
That seems to have fixed it for me. Today there were no wandering icons, and when I restarted, everything stayed in place. Thanks for the fix.
Dan

Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please repost your issue in this new thread specifically for issue one new layout Engine thread: https://forums.stardock.com/528229.
Also, please read through the instruction on the "Store my Fences positions on a per-screen-resolution basis". Try those steps and see if the issue you having resolved.
Would have thought being part of the SCA you would have moved post, and gone from there.
Strange setup...
I am on Fences 4. Today I received the offer of an upgrade. I clicked a 'what's new' link provided by the upgrade notice. The result was information about Fences 5. I told Fences to upgrade itself. It upgraded to a new version of Fences 4 (with backported fixes, I presume). What happened is welcome. That I was left unclear about what was happening was not. That is problem 1.
Problem 2 is that I saw the following displayed in a window.
Reduce distractions with Chameleon and enhance productivity easier access to Peek with the Peek toggle. [Sic]
That is gibberish - it is far from being a sentence. Dear me.
Same issue, but I'm bothering to answer.
Windows 11 24H2 (OS Build 26120.751)
Only present on Fences 5.5 and forward

Much has been discussed on this issue seen by some. Your results after reviewing it would be helpful.
Does this still happen if you have the new engine setIf you did not have it set, then set it and nothing happens, please try to reboot to be certain if it is still rendering poorly or not. Sean DrohanStardock Product Lifecycle Manager
That explains it then; my behavior is notoriously poor
Indeed a pain but when done, does it have it in a state that is useful \ 'like it was'? Or, no, while this works to have the names not bleed over into other icons, they have to be really small and are less identifiable when zoomed out?Sean DrohanStardock Product Lifecycle Manager

Funnily enough... all icons inside the fences are looking like they should, its only the ones outside that are jumbled like that!
None of the things they tried worked for me, sadly. Also, I'm on 125% (on a 4K display) on the desktop... putting it back to 100% and restarting actually makes it WORSE, things are way closer once scaled up!
The takeaway from my post seems to have been missed. I need to know the effect of Ctrl + Mouse wheel scroll in and out, Cless_Aurion... What happens when you try using it in and outside of the Fences?
I also need to know if you have this set...
Reading all this, I think Stardock has introduced a bug with the new engine. As a retired developer I know that very well! My Fences on W11 22H2 sometimes randomly switch places (within the Fence). Earlier I was told to put back the snapshot... That is a workaround, not a solution. The old 5.04 engine worked fine, so I think that one has to be compared with the new one and find out what the annoying differences are. Good old bug trapping.....
Same for me: no issues within fences, only the desktop icons are affected.
I'm with 4K 100%, Windows 11 23H2 build 22631.3672.
