Perhaps i'm missing something, but aren't missiles are inferior to both beams and kinetics in combat ? (not speaking about salvo potential on the map atm). They have the lowest accuracy and rate of fire of all weapons. The only advantage is range, but that is not enough to compensate for the aforementioned weaknesses, i think. What is your opinion on missiles ? Do you ever use them on combat ships ?
I do use them, but sparingly. They are generally inferior to beams/kinetics in DPS. They do have some advantages:
1) First strike. They fire first, so have a chance to take out some of the enemy ships before they even fire.
2) Map salvo: yes, you said to ignore it, but you really shouldn't. You can easily create a fast fleet that can dart in, salvo an enemy fleet, then dart out of range, repeatedly.
Missiles are awesome, especially when using 'shoot and scoot' to attrit enemy fleets. Plus, the anti matter bomb is on the missile tech tree and those babies are essential when the AI starts swarming.
