This document lays out the guidelines for “modders” (people making the mods). This is a series of what is considered acceptable best practices and how the moderators reviewing the workshop may respond depending on a given situation.
* Any modifications/changes made to another users existing mod, must have had attempted contact with the original author for permission, and be able to provide proof of attempted contact upon request from a moderator.
* Best etiquette includes having proper credit given to original authors where reasonable, if not automatically supplied by game/software.
* Should the original author not respond, the modification will be deemed useable until such a time as when the original requests otherwise. In such a case, a takedown notice of the mod will be issued.
* If a DMCA notice/strike is issued against any mod for any reason, said mod must be taken down immediately
* Should Hateful, harmful, racist, or otherwise belligerent content be found. It will be communicated to the community manager and taken down
* If you find that your content has been utilized without your consent, please contact moderation staff with evidence, for follow-up on either the forums or relevant Discord server.
* Volunteer Moderators should be encouraged to use their own best judgement. Moderators need to be firm, fair and impartial.
* If Moderators encounter more complex situations requiring support, please contact either the community manager or developer.
* Repeat violators can have their workshop privileges suspended if they continue to disregard rules and guidelines after being warned for the first offense. They may receive disciplinary action ranging from limited suspensions to permanently revoked workshop privileges for Habitual abusers. Such disciplinary actions will be determined by either developers or the community manager.
* Moderators should be encouraged to follow up with the original designer and let them know what action was taken in a confidential manner.
* These rules and guidelines apply to any modded content.
* For questions and concerns please reach out via the forums or relevant Discord server to the community manager.
lol was hoping this might actually be some documentation for modding, my lord.
These are the workshop guidelines for users who create and upload their player created mods to the GC4 workshop and they will be enforced.
These rules and guidelines also apply to user created custom civilization mods that use custom ship designs made by the GC4 player community. Please contact and ask for the original authors consent to use their work in any custom civilization mod before its uploaded to the workshop and give them their due credit as a show of courtesy and respect.
Pinning this on the Forums should have been done sooner but better late than never.
Thank you Ramma!
May I ask what kind of documentation you were looking for? I'd be happy to get something down the line to help
Ramma I sent you a message on Discord. I will check soon to see if you replied. I go by Airmaster on Discord.
In Bradzoobs case I think he means How To.
In the case of many posters a rules manual and how to do this would be nice.
As with a nother recent post knowing how to do something would limit false bug reports.
Posters have been asking for guides, tutorials and Wiki articles since Alpha.
this is definingly one area I can agree with the Nattering Nabobs of Negativity that we have been remiss.
I see, I'll add this into my list of things to do/create
I would like to publicly apologize for being a little.. "extra" in discord about this policy. I appreciate the update made 2/10/2023, and I can get behind it 100%. I actually made my first ship design and uploaded it yesterday. Anyone wanting to feel free to use a ship with my name on it on your civ. Thank you all very much.
All parties got a bit heated at the time, but the points you made helped bring attention to the fact these guidelines were not readily available and needed to be updated to be reasonable. I want to thank you for the inspiration and contribution you had to helping making what I hope will be a better experience going forward.
yeah, i mean i found my way to mod gc4 to my liking but it takes time and i have no idea how to make it stick so that it would just integrate my changes, which was a pain, so i went back to playing 3 since gc4 without modding was painful for me to play. Found a gc3 mod that overhauls immense maps perfectly. Since it's just XML modding maybe it could be done by a recursive data editor instead of by hand. Any tools you can recommend?
I cannot get the modding program to work it keeps showing "can't find galciv4 directory" and I installed inside that directory.
