Maybe I'm biased towards the original games research interface, but it seems like the original interface made it much easier to navigate and peruse. any thoughts?
Actually I like this interface better, the old one had picture ladder in each category and you had to hover over the pic to read the research this one it is all lay out better with sub categories at first it seems like a lot but once you navigate it a bit it is real easy. I would rather read a research than have to put a research to a picture.
This could be resolved by adding text/name of the research topic to the picture.
Otherwise the old format is way better, cause you see the logical follow-up and connection of the researches. In old system, you wanted to research say some kind of improved harvesting method and its level 2 as well. You just clicked one and the other. Now you need to scroll down the list, cause they dont have to be next to each other, as there are other non-related research topics inbetween. You dont see what you already have researched so handily as before either. All in all, its massive downgrade to previous implementation - and pretty much everyone seem to be critical of it, thus i believe it will get changed ultimately.

They are changing it at a later date per their discord channel. They had to make it basic as it wasn't ready for the tech preview launch. There will probably be a lot of UI changes before the game is released.
Good to hear, thanks for info. I thought it would be the case, just a placeholder, but voiced my opinion on the matter just in case.
I love the new research interface, and to search on the techs help a lot, is great for me!
What I like about the new Interface is that you see what is being researched along the top and you can move the order in what gets researched first, even something that is currently being researched. I also like the search function; it makes it so much easier to find the exact research I need.
I also like that once you have the correct number of Labs when you click on the ship build menu, it has a red button if you haven't researched it yet, by purchasing the first ship, it automatically starts the research. That is also true for ship Components and orbital structures. That actually saves you from having to open the research tab at all.
I did like how the old research was laid out and I like that you could research from different tabs at the same time. I hope they kind of blend in the new system with the old layout so that research is not so linear.
The current version is very obviously just a placeholder. I do hope they do something like they did but make it more readable this time. Hovering to find the right tech in PVP was a lethal apm loss.
The current version is super placeholder. It's why we put the "Under Construction" space pony there.
We discussed cutting techs entirely from the Tech Preview just because this screen is so bad. But decided that it was needed to make the game at all playable.
We didn't want to have the team spending any real time "cleaning up" this screen because it's going to be replaced entirely. So instead we provided a very placeholder version until the team has time to do it right, with a tech tree, etc.
I am glad to have what we have for the tech preview. Even though it's linear, we need research for playability, and I love the search function, even though the old system was setup nicer, it was still a pain in the old system when you were looking for specific research to do.
I also really like that you can switch the order of what is being researched or built on the planetary menu.

When do you reckon you might have the research tree reworked into more usable form? Is there any ETA on that, is it part of the next bunch of updates or has it lower priority and other stuff will be dealt with first?
I found out its kind of deal-breaker for me, so i am kind of waiting for it this to be adjusted before playing the game some more.
I like that you did not make multiple techs in the same box. This streamlines how much we need to pay attention to individual techs.
