As always, we really appreciate all of you being here and supporting Ironclad and Stardock over the years. We know you've been waiting and asking for a sequel for a long time now - we are so very thrilled to be able to deliver that to you! We look forward to reading all of your thoughts and feedback.
Don't just single out Steam, old man. 70/30 is an industry standard. I don't like the Epic exclusivity and I've said so plenty of times. Do I get why you did it? Yes, the money, not for greed but because that's guaranteed money which will help fund the game and help it be the best it can be but I still don't have to like the practice.
Also way to find puff pieces from way back in 2018 to link, gramps.
I however have to give respect that you guys announced Epic right from the start as opposed to some that list Steam pages and other stores with pre-orders only to later down the line sign an exclusivity deal with Epic while taking advantage of the forums Epic doesn't have that Steam, GOG etc does.
Not quite sure why we are resorting to personal attacks and name calling, but if you read the pieces they are very clear - no Epic, no game for a lot of developers. As for the 70/30 split, just because it was the standard, doesn't mean it's right. Either way, cluttering up this thread with this just takes away from the actual question -- what do you want to see in Sins 2, and what are you excited for?
Would like ship customisation and tiered loot to be in the game, kind of like the Heroes formula. Only the Titans would be able to wield the legendary loot, while capital ships can wield up to Epic level. A ship like the Skaravos Enforcer would wield the rare level loot and so on....Would add another layer of gameplay
Well old timer, looking at your Wikipedia page, that's quite a laundry list of games you guys have been able to put out. Thank Epic for that I guess. Again I get why you did it and I accepted it but trying to paint Epic as a savior for anyone but yourselves is dishonest. Yes you get more money but that doesn't guarantee consumers get a better product.
Really appreciate this response; it's exactly what people need to hear in my opinion. It also makes a lot of sense and exactly how I thought about it beforehand, but some people need it lain out.
Captain KeggeR the infamous pirate commander
Me too!
Since AutoDesk sent SoftImage to the knackers some years ago , I think there is zero chance of anything to do with SoftImage being used. A Blender pipeline would be the obvious choice, but better would be a choice of a common file type like fbx. This way it would be open to a wide range of tools and it's not so detrimental if any particular tool gets bought out, or suffers the same fate as SoftImage did.
An sdk or api or some such would be awesome, however probably too big of a task, especially since the engine is custom built, unlike games using Unity etc. where that type of thing is more pre existing. I will be very pleasantly surprised though if we do end up with that level of access.
Agreed on the above 2 points, though ideally the AI built into the game won't need any tweaking. No doubt however good it is some won't be happy, so whatever they can do for modability there would be welcome.
Agreed.
Thank you for your reply. I think most people actually understand the decision and those people usually do not complain. (Only a loud minority seems to care...)It is true that I would have bought the game directly from you, but probably turning down the extra funding would not be a wise decision. I also assume that maybe, from what I heard, since "Epic" store front is a Chinese company the game might see bigger popularity in China from where some of the 5s Multiplayer people come from and I would love to see that! Nice to see that in a game like this people from all over the world come together to enjoy their time. Thanks yet again for making this possible!
Stop talking already please if you do not have anything meaningful to say.
I am excited about Soase with new engine and additional stuff. Please don't add too many things (e.g. whatever this "legendary loot" thing was for example.) because it might actually alienate the sequel from its original. Please also reconsider the design, no Idea why ships look like they were taken from SC2 now and the Vasari look like robots... (or concept Art of the TEC commander?! Looks like it has been copy pasted from some Disney movie)
Oh gosh, if Sins-2 became the national pastime of China the way Starcraft became the game of South Korea, that would be amazing.

ok bro
Looking forward to seeing what mods are made. Would love to see someone port and update the og models.
did you read what he wrote? he asks why epic EXCLUSIVE, it's exactly what you wrote, they tied themselves down to it, at least for ea, and it's stupid because many people would hate to buy it only because it's on epic only
What on earth am I reading here!!! There is nothing preventing anyone with a PC from installing the launcher, buying the game and helping to make it a great game. All the launchers work on a PC so what are people talking about exclusive, people need to use their brain and stop bitching and moaning or is their bitching and moaning because they have nothing better to do with themselves. The launcher doesn't stop you playing the game, be single player or multiplayer. How can people be moaning about installer in a launcher?
True fans that love Sins of a Solar Empire like me and many, many others will follow the game, no matter the platform. We will help by providing constructive feedback from the beginning to end to help make the game a great success for us and everyone else.
The game is not going to launch for at least another 2 years, its going to Early Access, Alpha then Beta, then launching. Hopefully people joining at Early Access are those who want to help make the game a great success. Those that are bitching and moaning can sit on the sidelines as I don't see them adding anything useful other more bitching and moaning.
i see someone didn't try playing on Epic yet? or used only it and nothing else, Epic launcher often has various problems, like not even being able to open for some reason, , probably internet related, or updates going crazy and forcing you to redownload whole game, and quick note, you won't play any game on it unless it starts, and it's only launcher that i encountered that has this problem so serious like this, steam, battle net, origin, ubisoft connect, gog, none of them are in as pitiful state as Epic platform, if it was on any other platform i would buy it blind even twice, but if it's on epic, and i would need to first pray to even be able to start a launcher, so game can start, well... i'm really hesitant...
I've been using Epic launch since 2019 and to my knowledge I have not experienced any issues play games to this date, so from my perspective the Epic launcher works perfectly fine.
I figured it would be a one year launch window, but hopefully it gets as much time in the oven as it needs so that it can be fully polished and almost bug-free upon launch. In my view, that's very important.
Another publisher that made a huge fanbase on steam and then take the bribe from Epic, what a shame. Will moste likely get the game from Humble or keysellers for 1/10 of the price, i can wait so long.
I personally don't really mind if it's on the Epic store. I am going to pre-order it on epic and then also buy it on steam if it's good.
The thing that concerns me the most is the new design, so answering your question of what we want to see in the new sins I say the old art style.
Also, funny meme I found on 4chan lol:
Multi-thread support - this is none negotiable - wasn't driven by the story (if any) this was to play pvp or pve Co-op
I also see now you guys have gone exclusively on Epic- Personally, I think this was a stupid move, this was sooo 4 years ago that companies went exclusive to Epic and ultimately they came to steam and lost a ton of support and fan base. - I don't want another launcher Stardock will have their launcher like they do for Ashes and sins but not this is a bit much. Release the game on Steam or I am sorry to say I will only purchase the title after 4 years once it's made its ultimate way back onto its original title.
Edit: Please do not let anyone mess with the designs of ships, I want to see little turrets firing and miniature battle scapes.
Hahaha! I mean apparently the special abilities don't see much love here too... the lower gun of the Kol was part of its abilities. I wonder if they did this with every ship. The Akkan for example does not even have the iconic hangars in the front, instead they just got rid of it. Also no antennas and childish design...
The Steam release, so I can play it without supporting a company notorious for hurting PC gaming. (Epic)
I've been waiting for a SoaSE sequel for years and my excitement was immediately killed when I read that part...Shoulda known better, especially as SoaSE first came out in the era where Epic had abandoned PC gaming as "dead" in favour of making Gears of War for the Xbox 360 while Valve was busy making Steam what it is today! That 30% cut saved PC gaming, meanwhile the 12% cut looks like it's unsustainable in the long-term from Epic's own financial records.
I have mixed feelings about them, personally. Epic Games created my favorite game of all time, the original Unreal Tournament (1999) but failed to understand what they had created (an athletic-like online multiplayer cybersport and not just a disposable game) and lost its franchise by changing the game play in the sequels. If they had done what UT99 fans had wanted and just faithfully replicated the tried-and-proven game play but with new game modes, improved netcoding, better graphics, and improved online multiplayer functionality we might be playing UT99-8 or UT 2021 today instead of the franchise having died out with the release of the consolized (if not outright console port) UT3.
(Sins-2 Devs...are you reading this? Don't let what happened to the UT99 sequels be what happens to Sins-2. Don't outsmart yourselves and stray too far from the tried-and-proven game play formula you had with Sins Rebellion. "But...but we can't make the same game with prettier graphics!" Oh Yes...Yes you can. Maintain the winning formula of the game play Sins-1 fans loved but maybe add some other features like a new race, new planet types, new orbital structures, 2nd or 3rd starbase options, 2nd or 3rd titan options, or expand the tech tree, and dramatically improve the online multiplayer functionality. Also, remember, if Sins-2 is a success and is marketed properly the majority of Sins-2 purchasers will have never played Sins-1, so the original game recreated in a new engine will still be new to them.)
My connection to the UT games is the reason why I ever installed the Epic Games launcher. I wanted to get my hands on the developing Unreal Tournament 4 which was released and playable as a "pre-alpha" and ended up abandoned when the Devs left the project to get rich making Fortnite Battle Royale. I don't fault them for wanting to make some money, but it would have been nice if they could have taken 0.001% of the Fortnite profits and used it to go back and finish UT4.
On the plus side, they do make Unreal Engine available to developers and enthusiasts for free and give away free games, some of which are AAA titles. I've "purchased" dozens of them for $0 but have only played a few.
I'm OK with getting Sins-2 on the Epic Games Store, but I'm going to feel badly if it turns out that the patches, DLC, mods, and custom maps end up running through Steam a few years from now and I have to repurchase it to keep the game up to date and play online multiplayer (or if the Epic Games Store simply goes belly-up and I have to repurchase it on Steam.) Some sort of "guarantee" that that won't happen or that if it were to happen that Steam keys would be issued to Epic buyers in such an event would make this easier.

Absolutely THIS.
Not much more to add... unfortunately regarding this we did not get any feedback from the devs so far. They said they involved modders in the making of the new game... what modders? If it was Zabik for instance, he knows what made the game great and just rebalanced the game with his mod and added interesting features. With other modders I am just afraid that they will just completely derail the game.
Of course we 5s players can hope in such a case that someone will make yet another mod to bring back the game we loved, just with the new engine...I still hope that the devs are true to their words and really mean it when they say that they are going to listen to the multiplayer community. Of course they owe us nothing technically, but they do know they would break our hopes and dreams about our favorite game if they didn't... But right now it is mostly speculation, we will probably know more when the tech preview and new content will be released (hopefully soon).
Devs...are you reading this?
Yes. Daily.

I suspect once you see the new game you'll probably be good with where things are headed. Still, I'm eager to hear feedback either way -- it makes for the best end product.
listen to the multiplayer community
The team has one of the best track records I've seen for integrating community feedback. If there's one area you can rest easy, it's this one for sure.
hopefully soon
Very. If brevity is the soul of wit, we are being extra witty. It won't be long before you'll have a lot more to discuss...
