Hello there, Sins of a Solar Empire fans! Are you ready for a brand new entry for the series? I know we are!
There are plenty of reasons that Sins of a Solar Empire is a fan favorite, such as the unique asymmetrical gameplay or diverse and interesting races and factions that you have to choose from. But, like anything, everyone has their own opinions about what makes something fun and worth playing.
So, I'd like to hear yours! Let us know in the comments what you're most looking forward to in the new game or what features you're really hopeful that you'll get to see. Are you hoping to see specific improvements to already existing systems? Perhaps looking to see new ones implemented? What does that look like to you?
If you want to learn more about what's coming in Sins of a Solar Empire II, make sure to check out our news post and following along with our Dev Journals as they release! We'll be revealing lots about upcoming features and sharing cool behind-the-scenes tidbits about the game's development as we move toward release. Don't forget to snag some HQ wallpapers for your desktop backgrounds too!
As always, we really appreciate all of you being here and supporting Ironclad and Stardock over the years. We know you've been waiting and asking for a sequel for a long time now - we are so very thrilled to be able to deliver that to you! We look forward to reading all of your thoughts and feedback.
If I'm really honest all I really want is the current game rebuilt and optimized for a modern game engine (any chance that could be an easter egg, maybe something modders could do?).
This isn't to say I'm not excited for Sins of a Solar Empire 2 just not very imaginative in what could be done to improve SoSE. Long as it doesn't slow to a crawl in the multiplayer late game and supports COOP LAN play against AI and retains most of the feel and play of SoSE I'll be happy.
Here is a feature that could be nice or cool if it is feasible. Support for multiple and split screens. Imagine putting your tactical view on one monitor and system view on another then if you are trying to manage multiple battles be able to split the window (or put more system views on other monitors) to view and manage multiple battles.
I'm in 100%. Just pre-ordered, very excited! For me, its all about the majestic combat built for a modern, 64 bit system. I hope some of the audio queues remain. I'd love to hear "Our scouts have found a colonisable planet" just one more time
The most thing I am looking forward to is to play sins utilizing my multicore system which made big galaxies in soase 1 unplayable after a certain time with many units and maybe any surprise you may have - but honestly just soase capable of using the modern pc architecture and not 32bit with a single core ... that's it (of cause you got that pre-order from me already => I never thought this would happen after that long time without any life sign ... what a nice surprise )
I've kept coming back to Sins every now and then, and now that it's been so long since that came out I'm most excited to see it with modern technology. No other game could really scratch the same itch.
A Steam release.
Pre-ordering from steam
I'm excited for the pure fact that after 15 years, we're finally getting Sins 2. I weep with joy!!!
Also, a single-player campaign (or even a multiplayer campaign) would be great. SoaSE is the only game I know of that has an incredible amount of lore that doesn't get explored, revealed, and advanced in gameplay.
Pre-ordering on Steam.
Why Epic exclusive? I don't want to deal with another launcher
No Steam no sale
Because it makes no sense to be tied to one storefront.
Unless it comes to Steam, I will not be buying this! And I'm a long time super fan, been waiting for this for a very long time. This is so rotten disappointing to see that you all sold out to EGS!!!
SMH!!!!
Thank you Stardock for coming through and making a SoaSE sequel!
I’m most looking forward too the updated battle systems on ships and more of the storyline/lore of all the factions, but particularly what is chasing the Vasari…
Wow, this was not something I anticipated. This has been a long time coming, huh? Who knew that little DLC a while back was a precursor to this.
But yes, I will be most excited for its official release a year after "launch" on the Epic Game Store. Will probably buy it on GOG, all things considered.
We’re loving all the happiness this announcement has made our community! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
Honestly, I'm quite excited by the things I've heard already (particularly moving planets, which sound incredibly cool. Also no more looking up obscure and completely illogical unit counter charts).
I'm just hoping that we can tone down the game times a little. SOASE1 was great, but honestly the game times did feel a bit too long. I'm hoping you guys can strike a good balance between reasonable game times, and that 4x feel.
Thanks! If you keep true to the original, you will be my all time heroes! (Why the change in design though? Loved the rusty feel of the TEC, they look far too polished right now!)
Talk about the best way to end 2022. I couldn't believe it when I went to pcgamer.com and saw Sins of a Solar Empire 2 appear.
I too want to know who or what is chasing the Vasari... Its been bugging me for years.
From what I have heard, Epic doesn't charge game developers as much as Steam does. Besides it's just a launcher. I use Steam, Epic, Gog, Battle.net, Ubisoft connect, EA Desktop. Even Stardock had their own launch called Impulse, so I don't see why installing another launcher would be a problem.
Good old impulse launcher :3
best not mention impulse... it died with a couple of games i bought there. only reason to show up on egs first is that they pay for a year's exclusivity. no right or wrong about it, just choices.
as an aside. how come no one has made a game called "shins of a sober vampire" after all these years? (where's my new paragraph... when noscript is on?)
May not have played the game as long as others here, only began last year. Still, I can honestly say it's one of my favorite RTS games of all time. That said, here's some things I'd like to see based off my gameplay experience:
- More unit asymmetry: even if the factions as a whole have drastic mechanical differences (e.g. the Vasari being the only one with Phase Gates), the actual units themselves don't differ all too much between factions in terms of playstyle, asides from minor stat changes. Would like to see more distinction between faction ship types and composition; we saw something in that direction in Rebellion where the Vasari are the only ones without a long-range siege unit for example, or how different the various sub-faction's Titans are from each other, and I'm hoping that can be used as a basis for rethinking the unit composition between factions, making it so that a particular faction may have something the other lacks, or having ships of the same type play completely differently from one another in more visible ways outside of stats.- A more accessible UI: as nice as the first game was, the UI was definitely one of its weak points. As an example, the entire research tree had incredibly small progress bars that's so hard to see at 1920 x 1080p. At the very least, would be nice to have more options on how to scale the UI. - Tactical Pause, preferably one that's more deeply integrated into the game. - Steam release
Looking forward to the game release (on Steam/GoG) but the epic exclusivity is a really terrible dick move.
Lost alot of trust in Stardock thanks to this.
Just like politicans only picking the good responses and ignoring the criticism :/
