I would like to know when moderation for the GC4 Workshop will be up and running?
It didn't take long for one user to start taking others users ship design contributions and start pirating and re-upload them back to the GC4 Workshop under his own name without consent or permission of the original authors.
This has been going on for 7 years on the Steam workshop and thankfully with good moderators violations became fewer and fewer. I was really hoping it would not happen here on the GC4 Workshop.
I would also like to know what the rules for the GC4 Workshop will be and what the policy for violating workshop rules will be?
Any information in regard to GC4 workshop moderation is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
@Basilisk83 I would like to see your work out there, there are a number of my Startrek and Star Wars ships that are not cannon I get a lot of my design ideas from my Sci-Fi collection of books of which I have many Am and always will be a Sci-Fi nurd lol so if I can give you any advice drop me a private chat let me know the ship design of mine that you liked I removed my Star Wars to add descriptions and will be uploading as I go......
i actually havent really done ship designing like that. All the stuff i've made is civs under the name Paratu1701
I am wondering if it might be useful for our volunteers to have a private section of the forums too.
I think this isn't a bad idea.
@SchismNavigator to have a private forum section is a good idea for those of us new to position of moderator we would be able to discuss a proposal or any problem that we may encounter this would help to alleviate any mistakes that unwittingly may be made....excellent idea.
Agreed. Allow volunteer moderators to have own forum to discuss moderation issues amongst ourselves and and those overseeing workshop moderation.
Good Idea.
So there is already a forum for this but it's not very obvious in the navigation.

Working on making it a little easier to find things.
Schism, I think you're misunderstanding my post here and other two which are private under administration. This thread is for discussion between volunteers and players for workshop moderation guidelines input, ideas and volunteer sign up.
The private moderator forums are for logging workshop violations and workshop moderation tools instructions how to delete a violation. Please defer to Ron Burke or Frogboy. Just want to clarify.
You literally just said that you agree that there should be a private forum for volunteers to discuss moderation. This is what I am directing volunteers to use for that purpose.
Sometimes there is value in discussing procedure and rules with the wider community. But, there is also a reason not every discussion or the minutae of the beaurcracy is put on full display.
We are looking to further expand the volunteer base for a few different things and not just workshop moderation for GC4. So it's important that people get into the habit of using the tools as they are made available in a way the team expects.
This isn't to say this thread should be closed nor moved. If you want to use this thread to continue discuss workshop moderation with the entire playerbase on the forums that's fine. We might also want to develop moderation transparency channels for this on discord with so many volunteers.
Yes I do agree but the private fourms you linked are not for the type of discussion we are having here. That is all I'm trying to point out. So as you suggested let's open a Moderator forum discussions on discord. At this time discussing it here on the GC4 fourms is all that was available to us at this time.
😁👍
WORKSHOP MODERATORS MEETING NEEDED!!!!
We need a meeting between all Devs overseeing the GC4 workshop, GC4 workshop moderators and volunteer workshop moderators, We all need to get on the same page and to discuss what the rules and guideline are going to be for everyone. I noticed some users are getting favoritism while others are having their submissions removed, THIS ISN'T FAIR to the players using GC4 workshop or to us moderating workshop as the rules need to apply to everyone regardless.
No ifs and or buts about it. We cannot effectively moderate the workshop this way and this is the direction its starting to go I and others wanted to avoid. This is starting to get out of hand.
Can someone please set up a place on Discord were we can all meet and privately discuss this and hammer out all our roles in this and what is expected of us in regard to effective moderation of the GC4 workshop that is going to be fair for everyone and with no favoritism.
PLEASE SET UP A MEETING ASAP!
Sure thing. On Monday I'll reach out and we'll find a time to get everyone in the same place at the same time.
Thank you very much Ron!!!!

Glad I missed the Spam 🤣🤣🤣
I don't know if i can attend the meeting on monday because am still working on monday. One of the questions is this:
How workshop moderators should handle empty textboxes of people who can not speak english.
I am from germany myself. I know that the german playerbase is one of the core playerbases of the Gal Civ franchise. (German players generally love everything with management, economy and simulations involved.)
But there are a lot of germans which can barely speak english. When they get a mod message like "please describe your ship or civ in the subscription box" they won't understand the moderator message because they are not speaking english in the first place.
Same goes for korean for example or other languages. I don't now if it is possible to implement an update system for the subscription boxes in the long run, so people don't have to delete 30 ships only to write something into the box. I can imagine some designers would just stop uploading ships at all when their 30 ships are getting removed 3 times in a row.
About the civilisations: Civilisations defently need some kind of description what the civ is about. Even when it is written in the mother tounge.
I have the feeling some of the people who upload the ships and civs with empty description boxes can not even understand the moderator message in the first place because they are not speaking english.

I don't think the meeting will take place on Monday. Ron will need time to get everyone's schedule and see when we can all meet at the same time. I am available any time between 10 am to 10 pm eastern standard time USA.
Navinor is 100% correct!
The issue with the language translation barrier is one of the primary issues I want to address and coming up with several idea's to address it, including the all the ideas we discussed on this thread. Language translations are something I think need to be a priority getting into the game. Perhaps reaching out to the GC3 and 4 player community and asking players from non-English speaking countries to team up to work with and help the Devs with getting language translations into the game as soon as humanly possible.
My biggest concern is removing players submissions for rules violations while leaving others up who are violating the same rules. This is gonna come back and bite us on the bollocks later. We need to solve this problem now so its fair for everyone, for both English speaking and non-English speaking players. Those who do not speak English should be allowed to use their own native language to fill in the description text box and this isn't possible right now but needs to be fixed so they can. Even a copy and paste feature added would work wonders to resolve the issue until language translations are in the game.
Please post your schedules so Ron can schedule a meeting for a time we can all be in attendance too.
Me: anytime, any day between 10 am to 10 pm eastern standard time USA
That's an important point, guys...
As a denizen of his parsec, I can bear witness. Jafo has more experience as a Moderator than just about anyone, and teaches gently. Mostly. That 'going public' thing is a biggy.
I see your points and will no longer discuss it here in this thread. I will use the private moderation forums from now on.
👍😁
Any word on when those that were asked to volunteer on Discord are going to be selected?
I have so many ideas for ships but m not good at it and get frustrated because my idea and my finished design are so far apart! ha. I create civs. I probably had 85 to 90 for GCIII. I start by creating them, then keep adding to them, history... back story etc... After a few months I have a fully fleshed out CIV. Am up to 30 now for IV. What I wish to do is create fleets for each race, that is my downfall.
Research is the key to creating good civs and ships. Gather materials you need for your Civs graphics, Leader portraits, Citizen portraits, logo. backgrounds and foregrounds Come up with a theme and write back story based on the theme what your civs race is about and also add it into the description briefly telling player what's its about.
Think about how you want your leader to be. Attitude. Personality. Personal history. Military training. Diplomacy. Factor all this in when you write your flavor text. Keep brief, short and sweet. Don't frustrat yourself trying fit in every little detail. Less is more. Be creative.
As for ship design. Have you ever built a plastic model kit? The principal is the same. Only things miss are glue and instructions. Use your own imagination or find pictures of ships to inspire you and make your own custom ship based on that inspiration.
If you're going to replicate from scratch ship designs from pictures or schematics don't try to make them look exactly as they look in pictures or schematics. Add your own personal touches that make them unique and stands out from everyone else.
Very important to utilize the scaling tools in the ship designer to resize and blend the ship parts you use. The best ship designs use ship parts from more than one race.
Don't be afraid to experiment. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Most important do it for you. The only person you need to impress is yourself.
As Airmaster said. For ships it is basically like building a model kit. The most important thing is not being intimidated by other designs. Some of the designers here have thousands of design hours under their belt. Their ships are more than impressive. It is like looking at art.
Most of them were designing ships since Gal. Civ 2. At some point you get a "feeling" for your designs. I am designing my ships not by looking at them and literaly say "This looks good/bad"
It is more like i look at them and think "this feels good/bad". But this comes with experience and more design hours.
Furthermore designers are more critical of their own work than anybody else. I always think " i could have done better". But at some point i have to finish the design and in the end it must still be playable. A ship with 500 parts is to much for even the strongest computers to handle.
Starting with your own designs is easier. Recreating ships from pictures was more difficult for me in the beginning. Especially when ships have a lot of slopes.
When it comes down to civs, i have to admit i am not a good civ designer. My strong point is designing ships. But i am always glad to see other people designing civs for me to use.
