HI there.
About a few years ago i paid for the object desktop suite. the packages didn't came any expiration date and i was able to use it freely. (i only use fences actually)
Now once i tried to reinstall the fences application it doesn't work.
1. I used the original installation file for the update and i couldn't get it to run since it crash with an windows explorer issue
2. I tried to reinstall the entire Object desktop package and it work but once i logged in with my Mail & key there was an error login into the page and the apps list in completely empty
How can i reinstall and use Fences app on my PC using my original key which i bought for about $20
Thanks.
Yakir
Same thing happened to me. i purchased in 2012. I will not subscribe because I purchased the full program at that time.
It appears that I am mistaken, as pointed out by support. My email does not go past 2013 so I am not able to locate my receipt.
So at this time I have to concede that I am in error.
I will however say that I did purchase renewals, not sure why I think I thought I was buying a specific program.
Once at $14.99 and once at $19.99. There is no way I am going to pay $34.99 for a yearly subscription to this.
Simply not worth it.
If you purchased Object Desktop in 2012 you will have had 12 months from date of purchase to download, install and use any/all programs of interest to you.
They will of course have been which-ever vintage of program from that time...for the Operating System 'current' at that time.
You had 12 months to DL and safely store any/all purchased products....and they will work for you exactly as they did, provided of course you and/or Microsoft did not alter/update the OS, in which case results may vary.
Object Desktop is a service. It is not an historical repository for past customers to access superseded software for legacy Operating Systems 11 years later.
When a person buys a product it becomes the purchaser's responsibility to safe-keep that product. If he loses it for whatever reason it cannot be the vendor's responsibility.
The whole actual benefit of an on-going Subscription is the subscriber has continuing access to updates to the software so neither he, nor Microsoft can totally deny on-going compatibility with changes to the OS going forward...
Is there a chance You mean ObjectDock or any solo program and not ObjectDesktop (a whole suite of programs)?Same as buying "Excel" is not buying "Office".
Excellent thought, Carl.
I remember when Object dock came to W8, Stardock priced (as a special celebration) it at $5. It usually cost at least twice that.
Howevever, even then customers were warned to keep their installers as if lost, they would be unretrievable, and Object Desktop was never a stand alone.
From the Wikipedia:
"Impulse (preceded by Component Manager and Stardock Central) is the main interface for registering, downloading and updating components. It is roughly equivalent to a package manager.
Users pay an initial fee for access to the software and one year of access to download updates. They may also download new components added during their subscription period. Updates are not guaranteed; components deemed less relevant may be passed over, or removed.
After expiry, users cannot download any software until they renew; however, they do not lose the use of released (non-beta) software that is already downloaded, nor is it necessary to renew immediately. Renewals add a year of access from the date of renewal, not the expiry date.
Historically, the initial subscription fee for the Windows version of Object Desktop has been $49.95, while a year's renewal or an upgrade from a standalone component has been $34.95. Object Desktop 2008 introduced two tiers, with the lower tier at $49.95 and the higher tier at $69.95, but the latter was eliminated in 2010."
Thus, it isn't conceivable that an Object Desktop subscription was purchased at the price quoted in this thread. More likely as you pointed out, they bought Object dock stand alone...but in any case it's a moot point as they lost their istallers and keys.
There was a time when you could buy the individual programs for around $4 or $5.
Yes I have a picture to prove it if you want.
Would you like a pic of that receipt to prove i did?
They are absolutely correct! Saved my previous components, reinstalled and viola!
Solved!
We are almost always "absolutely correct"...
I'm glad you've got it sorted...
