Is this the typical experience for anyone else?
Yes, the reduction of planetary colonization events, and the lack of focus for policies (they went from +3 to 0, a huge experiment) makes ideological difficult on this alpha release. At least it is playable, and we have an idea of what Tourism will do.
Yea, we're doing a balance pass on this. Might have gone too much the other way.
.65 Test - 5 in 254. I actually thought the points in .60 came too slow. On the other hand since points are so hard to get I find myself hoarding them until I open an Ideology I really want. I guess that makes using them a more strategic decision
As I stated elsewhere, might have been Discord, the only reason to settle 99% of the "habitable" planets was the colonizing bonus with this change you saved me having to build colonyships, instead I can just use control points to draft one every 20 turns or so as long as I have a Governator to make it a Core.
@gypsy - there seem to be many more class 10-12 planets, and even some of the 2-4 planets have better resources. Certainly they are not worth ignoring.
The problem with that is the AI spams colony ships and plants on every rock in the system. Then you have to go and weed each and every one of them out when the inevitable war breaks out.
@ AdamMG Not at the cost of a citizen, the other post I mentioned I stated I ignored 10 and below. I know some 4s have resources on them, but My map set up allows me to ignore them as the 10+ planets give me all that I need and why waste a governator on 4 tiles?
The basic gist, I think, is that a balance needs to be had between ideology points gained, and how ideology points are used. Especially with the Arcean ships each gaining a Culture point (that's 3 early, 2 more not far behind) there aren't enough ways to go deep into a path right now.
My basic ideas are (1- Policies went from +3 to +0, and this is too severe, make it +1 at least, and (2- make planetary events more common, maybe 25%, and see how it goes
This is good news. I did not see this thread and posted another regarding availability of both Culture and Ideology points through the game.
Another concern is the mix of ideology choices. Some ideologies appear to be more common during events than others.
