This is certainly an interesting time right now. I know many of us around the world are social distancing, self-quarantining, or whatever phrase you are using for it.
So let's take a moment and check-in here and let the community know how you're doing during all this.
My wife and I have both had our first shot of the AZ vaccine. I had a slight headache and my wife had a sore arm and some muscle soreness in her lower back and bum. All OK after 24 hours. I spoke to our doctor the other day and he has had both shots of AZ. He says that there is less side affects with the second shot. We are booked in for our second shot on the 9th of July. Will let you know how we go
We both have had our 2nd shot with no side affects.
I've had both my AstraZeneca shots, neither caused me any pain at the needle site or anywhere else. No side-effects, either.
I still don't get these anti-vaxxers peddling so much misinformation to sway people from getting their shots. It makes no sense to peddle fear during the pandemic, but there they are, trying to influence and scare people. Here in Australia we have 4 states where new cases being recorded every day, and it's mostly because of selfish and unruly people with no concern for others, just what takes their fancy at the time. Fortunately, the state and federal governments are charging a number of these selfish pricks, with the outcome in some cases being jail time.
As far as I'm concerned, forget the fines and impose jail sentence for all Covid rule breakers.
I do wish more people would get vaccinated. Seems like we're about due to spawn another variant.
Yep, everyone should be vaccinated ASAP. As if it wasn't bad enough with the more contagious Delta variant, but a new variant with possible new symptoms should be well and truly enough to get everyone not vaccinated into the vaccination clinics to get their shots.
Even though we have had no new cases of Covid here in Tasmania in months, and our border is closed to everyone from affected states, I had no hesitation whatsoever to get my shots when it came to my place in the queue. It's like the ad we have here on TV.... we're not safe until everybody is safe..... meaning we all should get the shots and do the right thing by ourselves, our friends and loved ones, everyone at work and living in our communities.
We get our second shots in September...meanwhile putting up with lockdown No.5 ....as NSW is currently screwed...bit slack getting into it...as if they knew how to do it better than Vic. How wrong they were...
Yeah, the yuppies and the wealthy from Manly and northern beaches are largely responsible for the Sydney [and now rural NSW] breakout of Covid. They've learnt nothing from the last breakout that took so many lives and are still going to the beach and other yuppie hangouts to socialise. It's just not good enough, and the elected officials are more or less sitting on their hands because they don't want to lose the votes.
update from me. I finally got clearance from my doctor to get vaccinated for Covid. So i have had my 1st dose of Pfizer and due for my 2nd next week. No ill effects and everything went well.
Good to hear [um, read].... glad it went well for you.
Sadly, it didn't go so well for a couple of Aussies who passed away after their first AstraZeneca shot, possibly due to underlying issues such as thrombosis, etc. For most it is quite safe and few side-effects, if any, so yeah, I feel for their family and friends.
Incorrect....it was a limo driver from Bondi in the East whose job was ferrying international flight crews to quarantine and somehow thought it wasn't necessary to wear a mask...... you can't legislate for stupidity...

Glad you're all keeping safe...

Not entirely incorrect. Perhaps the limo driver spawned the current outbreak with his stupidity and being out in the community, but there was a news report on 7 showing police trying to remove 50+ people from Bondi Beach during lockdown. Not only was it stupidity, it was also irresponsible and selfish, too.
It's like the so-called privileged ones think that the rules don't apply to them, that they are immune to Covid because they are 'privileged'. If only that were true, it would be easier to contain the outbreak if they were immune and not carriers/spreaders of it.
Thankfully, most people are doing the right and responsible thing by adhering to the lockdown rules, though it's sad that so many were in the wrong place at the wrong time and became infected while innocently shopping, working and/or conducting business.
It seems to me that one of the nastiest parts of this pandemic is that a person in any particular location doesn't really know there's a problem in his area until a few weeks after the problem has already taken a foothold, and that's even if the person has been paying attention.
The wanton disregard and denial is of course something else entirely, and it seems to come in so many flavors.
I'm sure we've all seen the stories of the people almost gone who've said "I can't have Covid, it's not real."
I saw a story sometime in the last week where a nurse in a hot spot was relating how more than once she's had a person almost gone who has said "I'm so sorry, please please give me the vaccine." Of course at that point there is nothing she can say except (her words) "I'm sorry, but it's just too late." That one really stuck with me, the complete lack of understanding on the part of the patient regarding how vaccines in general work, and how that nurse likely wishes she could just give people a shot at that point and cure them.
One way or another we'll get through it.
I sure hope so. This pandemic has wreaked havoc on so many communities and economies already, not to mention the families who have lost loved ones, good friends, too. And when so-called experts are saying that it's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better, I dread to think they might be right. I may be fully vaccinated but I still worry for friends and family who have not been as yet.
I thank my lucky stars that we have no Corona virus loose here in Tasmania, and that our borders are closed to those states with outbreaks, but I can't help but wonder how long that can last, given how virulent the Delta strain is and how it could possibly be transmitted here via freight carriers still delivering products from the mainland.
Bondi Beach is in the east....nothing Covid happening up Manly and Northern Beaches....no yuppies spreading it from there....you'll have to keep the yuppies on the backburner to blame for something another day....
The beaches should have been closed as they were last year when shown people cant use them responsibly for exercise....
The irresponsible spreaders are from all walks of life...not the least being 3 removalists from the south west, two of them being twin brothers...who thought it appropriate with all 3 knowingly being Covid positive to make deliveries into several areas of regional NSW.... police escorted them home to quarantine....meanwhile the twin brothers Mum had caught Covid and died soon after....people are selfishly not taking into consideration they are affecting family members with their cavalier behaviour...
I believe it was a couple of removalists who breached Covid conditions who spread Delta into Victoria too....
The lockdown protests yesterday in Sydney bought out the dregs of our society....unmasked scumbags wrestling with police and punching police horses....utterly shameful...and we'll see what kind of super spreader that turns out to be over coming days....
A 38 year old died today....maybe they'll stop thinking of it as just deadly for the over 70's and start to get as scared as they should be with this Delta variant....
Hope it stays out of Tassie...
I can't believe the selfishness, stupidity and irresponsible behaviour of 3500 - 4000 boofheads in Sydney yesterday, well I can believe it but sure as hell don't understand it. Why would anybody organise and/or attend an anti-lockdown rally and risk the lives of countless others? It's an event that could become a Covid super-spreader, and with the NSW government unable to contain the current crisis, it could spell disaster for the mainland states, even if state borders are closed.
The behaviour of those protesters was disgusting, with some punching police horses, assaulting police, damaging property and risking the lives of thousands. It was totally unAustralian when we should be all pulling together as a team to overcome this insidious disease... and here's these effing wankers doing the exact opposite.
For mine, martial law should be imposed and people who refuse to comply with lockdown laws, like those twats in Sydney yesterday, suffer the full extent of the law.... maybe a bullet or three here and there might just force their compliance. Yeah, that might sound drastic, but we are living in the grip of a pandemic and something drastic is needed to curb its spread and save lives.
Oh, and if anybody thinks I'm angry.... angry is completely and utterly short of how I'm feeling right now.
I'm a "little on the frustrated side" [cough] myself. It really is mind-boggling.
There were issues with people from Manly and Northern beaches ignoring lockdown rules as well. Again, it was the 6.00pm news that showed police moving people on from those locations. It even got a mention during a NRL game broadcast on 9. Anyway, let's not quibble about who from where is to blame, it's the selfish, irresponsible and thoughtless we should be condemning... no matter where they are from.
As for the removalist, he broke the border rules in 3 states and will likely face charges in Victoria an S Australia once NSW is done with him. Word is, he's facing jail time in NSW... possibly in the other states as well. Sadly, his mother died of Covid 19 and it never should have happened. He should be feeling as low one can get right now, and serve him right.
Those disgraceful protesters from Saturday are being hunted down by police and they will face some serious charges for their complete stupidity. Yes, they were from all walks of life, many of them the dregs of society, and I still can't fathom the complete and utter disregard for family, friends and neighbours, etc.
Anyway, I get out of here for a while... before steam come out of my ears and I blow my top.
I tried to sign up on line for my covid 19 shots a while ago.
I couldn't because it wanted a cell phone number and I don't have one.
So I did the walk in, late morning. I almost didn't feel the shot.
I had no bad reaction and left after 15 minutes.
By bed time I felt like I was coming down with the flu and my arm ached a little.
I took a Tylenol so I could sleep. In the morning I took a Tylenol when I got up.
After 24 hours from the shot I felt almost my usual normal which is half as
good as I felt 20 years ago.
Have had two doses of Pfizer, two months apart, with no side effects, other than a mildly sore shoulder for under a day on both shots.
I live in government housing. We have all (all but 1) had the vaccine. A week ago, one of the residents (19 of us) went to a bridal shower for her granddaughter. They are non-vaxers and not maskers, and told everyone it was safe because it was outside in the back yard. A week later, the father of the bride came down with Covid. The resident who was the grandmother of the bride showed everyone the pictures of the shower in her apartment. Guess what, we (who choose too) are putting ourselves in complete lockdown once again. Went to the market (fully masked) yesterday to stock up for the next 10 days or so. This is shit! No matter how hard you try to do the best you can, there is always a "back door" for this damn thing to come in. I do not intent to leave my apartment for at least 10 days now. Why don't the "no-believers" get that they can put all of us elders (87) in deaths doorway just to satisfy their own beliefs. I am sure I will be OK.........but S-H-I-T......................AGAIN.???????????????
gpensanti ...all I can STRONGLY suggest is at least you totally avoid 'anti-vaxxers' and 'anti-maskers'.
If I knew any I simply would cease knowing them....
We get our second shots this Friday...brought forward due to changes of policy...
BTW....Melboure Oz is currently in its 6th lockdown....tho I'm in the country so can get to pubs, etc - yet another advantage of exiting the 'burbs' ...
Those people, anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers, make me sick and angry. The fact that they shove their warped views down the throats of others and cause fear and hesitation [even illness and/or death] is enough to earn them a lengthy prison sentence as far as I'm concerned. It's even worse when those twats are celebrities and persons in positions of power, using their power and influence to sway others from doing the right thing.
