Is the Video Game Machine project still active or is it dead?
Hey Ivanthomson!Yes, the project is still active. Jumping back into it soon, so I'll keep you posted when an update is on the horizion (think sometime over the next few weeks). Thanks!
I don't see any reports most probably this project is dead by now.
No, it's just taking a while to get back to it. We jumped over to The Political Machine, which is still taking up most of my attention. In my (limited) freetime I've been getting a new build ready to go, but it's been a slow process. We'll update the forums when there's something more significant to report than "it's not dead"
This project I have not seen any information that it was dead
This game is dead. So sad Stardock went this way...
Waste of money...
VGM is not abandoned. But we are all hands on deck for a big project right now. We are actively hiring but the combination of the pandemic and our studio location makes it difficult as people don't want or can move right now with ease.https://www.stardock.com/careers
I brought up VGM at this week's meeting and there is impetus to get another update out soon. I can't be more specific than that though since it's not really down to me. But, as soon as I learn more I will pass it on to you guys
Hey Guys! Good news - the Alpha 2 build of VGM is heading over to QA this week Big new features include...+ New Genre: Runner+ Auto-Level Generation: When you start a game, it will use template levels to build a basic game for you (if you want).+ New Sample Game: Age of the Mage Rage+ New Rule: World Map (build an overworld map for your games)+ New Gizmos: Set Music, Counter, Endless EnemiesAnd then a bunch of other smaller features, but rest assured we're FINALLY getting back to putting out VGM updates! Huzzah!
Any word on Alpha 2 Scott?
Definitely not dead. But needing to be redesigned a bit. Covid has kind of wreaked havoc on getting any projects moving effectively.
Yeah, thumbs down on the Covid front. Thanks for the info Brad! Merry Christmas!
Ok, so this project is not officially dead, but it is for all practical purposes dead for now until an unexpected revival in some distant future. Bummer, because it had so much potential.
BTW, we are hiring. And people can work from remote. Our biggest obstacle right now is just staffing.
But VGM is definitely not dead. We learned a lot from the builds that have gone out.
this project is dead - R . I . P
VGM was in slow burn mode BEFORE this covid stuff hit, so the last year has been pretty devistating to my little project. I've put time into it where I could find it, but working remote meant most of my effort had go into our core projects.I feel like a post mortem on the nature of remote work would be interesting at this point. Any extra time you get from 'not having to drive' is completely overshadowed by loneliness and a lack of that hard-to-quantify 'creative energy' that comes from working with awesome devs in the bullpen. But as the creative lead on this one, I sincerely apologize for the lack of momentum and updates on this project. Now that I'm back in the office I promise to get the embers of VGM fired up once again.
For anyone interested, here's my task list for wrapping up Alpha 2 and getting it out the door. The build was in a state with lots half-implemented features that needed to either be disabled or wrapped up, but I'm slowly turning those Red tasks Green
Anything new? I was enjoying this game maker!
Alpha 2 is SO CLOSE to being ready...the only remaining issues are...
The good news is that I've been able to use the extra time to knock out some additional bugs, so Alpha 2 will be even more stable than expected.Anyways, working with our DLL guy today on the problem - wish us luck!
Awesome news! Good luck on fixing the DLL!!
Thanks for the info.
Good luck guys! Can't wait to see the improvements/additions.
Thanks guys! Got the DLL issues worked out on Friday, so today we'll make the installer, put it through it's paces, then offically get Alpha2 released!!!
Scott will we see Alpha 2 for download this week?
Unfortunatly no - we have next week off, and I dont feel comfortable releasing it now then being out of the office for 7 days. However, this does give me a BIT more time to squeeze in some low-risk goodies, so the final build will have some features I was saving for Alpha 3!I'll jump in here when I know the offical release date, but it's looking like sometime in the second full week of July Side note: Scary temps over on the west coast - hope everyone is staying safe and cool!
