Can we get this un-sensefull thing get out .......
-> i have NOT an open border with Civ A
-> Civ A fly anyway in my terretorry .... THIS should only happen if Civ A dont like me - otherwise it makes no sense as he should respect my decision
-> i demand remove from the ships - as we have STILL no "open Borders" ....
-> Civ A get mad over this ... Why ???? (it was clearly his fault .... not mine ..)
-> after doing this "silly thing" (he remove ships, come back after a time) severel times - i have an war with Civ A , an former good friend .... only i like no "open borders" with him .. and he dont respect this from the start ...
If he's such a good friend, you have no cause to object to his ships in your space.
This is a problem caused by you.
even a good friend musst stay to the rules (or - from an good friend i expect he stay with special care to the rules to not harm me ...) .... china is an good friend from europa ... so we should let go his army straight in european towns ...... - and no, i dont expect an sensefull answer ....
-> can i have discuss companions with more "level" .....
Considering that you insult those who actually tried speaking with you, I doubt you will find many people who are willing to try.
To reiterate. If you think the game is so terribly broken over a fairly minor issue (and believe me, there are more issues in the game than a weak diplomacy engine, though some of us enjoy the game despite them) then don't play.
If you don't like people in this forum, stop posting to this forum.
Most people have better things to do with their time than be insulted for trying to talk with an insulting and entitled jerk.
You're right in that China would ask Europe before doing that, but do you really want all Races you aren't at war with constantly asking "Hey, R-TEAM, is it okay to move my fleet through your Saturn system?" or having to do the same with them - getting their permission before your fleet moves in their space.
And if China had a desperate enough reason to go to wherever they want to go - ie their Enemy is in the Arctic Circle and the European town is the quickest route there, saying "No" to any request won't do Europe's freindship with them any good.
DMF's right: Why would you say no? Why would that race say no to you?
Apart from my "Automatically charge 10bc per turn" idea, another solution is that all races have Open Border agreements by default. That stops the system from telling you you've got a ship from any of the however many races you're not fighting/angry with in your space every time one comes along. It only warns you about your enemies.
@AdamMG
if people bring such hillarus ideas as DMF ......
and i know it is (sadly) way more broken game things in the game ... but this is one, even fresh players complain at first and so an good start to not shoos new player from the start ...
and -> "Most people have better things to do with their time than be insulted for trying to talk with an insulting and entitled jerk."
yea - i expect - but you likely dont belong to this "most" people, as you talk still here with me ...... ..... ......
@mrblondini
sorry to say this - but .. "if" an closed border is possible , then "yes" - i would expect all races that dont like to go fast in war with me (here you are right - it depends on the power relation, if i am to weak i may consider ignore it .. but this make the rule not invalid..) ask me if he like to fly in my space. like i musst doing this - if i get no permission, simply plott a route around space that belongs to other or if this impossible - you cant go to this location, as the other race was faster - who comes first .... without this the whole "border" system make no sense and would be better not here ... but i dont imagine the reaction from "not GC Fans" but strategic games player, if you say, in GC its no borders anymore .. every ship can fly everywear .... a big evolution in strategic gaming [sarcastic]
i dont like the strictly closed border handling from games like stellaris - but it is better as the broken thing we have here ...
And it gives "many" reasons i dont like an even friendly race fly in my space ....
To say it clear, the other come not to make a nice sightseen --- she come to build starbases to get resources that are in my space or colonise planets in my space or simply gater informations where my bases/planets stay -- which "nation" would allow such things ?? - even to friends ..... (that can become in the future enemys ...)
with this in mind i cant find your idea interesting - as it is simply always open borders where make, for me in an strategic game no sense - but i agree the actual "border" from the influence is an bad idea and would even never work as it moves by itself and this should an border between 2 parties NOT (in free space this is a different thing)
but to say it politly ...
the "idea" in an serious strategic game to have no borders at all ................. the GC "community" is the first i come across that even consider this - and i have played many strategic games....
Well I honestly would prefer the current system than the closed borders idea. After world war 2 the United States started flying b27's over the Soviet Union. Later u2's. Finally the Soviet Union shot down a u2. The United States said they had the right to fly spy planes for gathering information over someone else's air space. The Soviet Union was paranoid of war so were we. We continued to fly U2's over the Soviet Union, while the Soviet Union flew Mig 25's over us. So the United States, and the Soviet Union. Two Nations almost at war with each other allowed it for intelligence gathering.
I do agree that if the ai can tell us to get out, so should be able to tell them the same thing with a diplomatic penalty for doing so.
I dont say we should get the strict border system from stellaris ... this is way from perfect (but "if" an border system available then i prefer the which work - and not an fake where is always open borders ...)
I would say, sneak in space from your neighbours should always possible - and if you doing it right and stealthy enough he dont notice it ... but - if he notice it, it should get consequences .... not war at first (depends on the action that was trigered with the unauthorized fly-in) but diplomatical relevant and not only an cavalier offense ....
And the example with US/USSR is right - but the consequences was zero only, both have nuclear armageddon in the list of available answer to this .... can you imagine what have happen, if the USSR have no nuclear bombs ......
this is why the western nations need closed borders ASAP
for the better readability and to not clog the thread with unrelated nonsens i will not answer replays that are simply to dumb or from such an unlogical behavor that i musst suspect it was writen by an child or puparian teenagers with unprocessed complex .... nice day
Special.
@Horemvore
i have no problem with your prefered game style - i can understand you like the game to play in an way "simply" you like...
but our views over how this special game mechanic should work are completely opposite - it make no sense to discuss this furter - as we will never agree to the other - but i respect your way
(maybe you dont think this way, a game with more complex game mechanic can be played still with the more easy game mechanic as the rules and ai behavor is still here - the other way it works not - i cant play with an working border mechanic as he is simply not here ...)
but the post with "..western nations.." make no sense in any way .. and is purely bashing and provocation (or the poster is realy so dumb not to understand the difference here ..) - and the answer was going in the same direction
anyway - have deinstalled GC3 again - not as stellaris work full again - need to wait for the new DLC to adopt my and the other mods .. but i have seen that in the GC community the "very conservative" thinking of "never change a working game" is to way backward and defended even with senseless and horrible examples of ".. it musst stay as it was on GC all times - at all cost .." that i come to the conclusion it will not change or at best with GC5 or 6 (if the company life so long with this business modell ...)
So - so long and have still fun by playing watever it is
hey R-TEAM ...
thanks for nothing
People been trying to talk sense into you but you keep reject it then graduate yourself to throwing tantrum thinking that you're elevated more than any individual that has been discussing with you. The problem isn't the game. You are. You creating a problem just so you and you alone have the solution to solve it while deflecting everyone else to make yourself look smart.
Don't make a big deal of yourself. You are insignificant to us. We don't know you. If you want to go then go. Don't waste time monologue. It just makes you look like a clown.
Ah this thread again.
R- Team, as the vets here have stated the game has always had 'no borders'. It's the way the game was made that you can go anywhere on the map. Same with the ai.
Can Stardock code it so that the ai cannot enter your borders? I think so, but that also means you would too would hit this invisible wall that you cannot move through. I think the way it is designed is fine and factually more accurate for a space based 4x game.
I hate game rails. I absolutely hate having to chose Point A or Point B. It sucks. Why can't i just travel in an expanding spiral from my homeworld and explore that way? Ive played stellaris. I like it. I hate the travel to and from stars because its on rails. It has its pros > you can create chokepoints...great. It has its cons, you know where the enemy will always come from and you can turtle up.
Unless you have super sensor boats like we did at game launch you cant see where the enemy is coming from (like real space). Its not a design flaw and it would cause you more headaches if they implemented some wall you can't pass through as a barrier.
Now I read somewhere > that we may get a kind of borders in Gal Civ IV. it will be more like your current game map but each section of the map is connected via star lanes. I am curious to know what the next incarnation will be.
I will say our community has some very good folks here to help you. Hats off to Horemvore, Gauntlet, Admiral Willy!
Been a while since I read on this chain... what fun!
I do think it's worth noting, that there are really only a couple of people who are truly "stubborn" and the vast majority are open to change. Fact is though... few of those people agree.
Though... I'm pretty happy to see the number of "Gauntlet has good ideas" I've seen in this thread... because you really all should just stop having opinions of your own, relinquish the burdens of freedom to me, and I'll lead us all into a glorious future!
You won't even be notified of your assignment to the labor facilities! You'll just wake up there! SO Convenient!
At least we won't be unclogging Drengin toilets...
