With labor day nearly here in the United States, we are putting the finishing touches on what will be the version that goes out for review.
Here are some highlights from this week:
Better late than never. Your ship's fuel range is now showed on the map. Very convenient if you want to avoid Tywom fan fiction (yes, that's a thing).
The in-game codex continues to be enriched with documentation, lore, and other goodies.
Visual effects have been iterated on once again. It's come a long way.
The Terran Cruiser replaces the "Earthling Cruiser" both in name and design to better match the idea that the Vindicator class is a prototype thus new ships should have some resemblance to it.
Lots of new cut-scenes went in this week.
You can change the game's difficulty at any time from the options menu. However, you can set the game's default during the game setup.
Not easily visible in a screenshot but thanks to AMD sending us lots of hardware, we have been able to make the game run well on ridiculously low end hardware. Like, think 10 year old hardware. How? As long as the system has 4 logical cores (example, the Surface Pro is 2 cores but has 4 logical processors) we can effectively have 4 "graphics threads" going at once. giving >30fps on hardware that people will be shocked even loads t he game. The magic of the Nitrous job scheduler in action.
I'm hoping AMD also sent you some ridiculously powerful new stuff.... hmmm threadripper... It is really cool to hear that the game will run on low end stuff. that's going to be huge! That said is it going to still need lots of ram?
I requested they send me their newest but least powerful machine for me to sink my teeth in.
Fast machines are like programming on easy mode.

So, I'm looking at that star map, and it reminded me of something...
In the Chapter One beta, it was possible to get a list of what I suspect was every star in the game; you couldn't see a map, but there was a text list. And Zeta Reticuli was not on there.
I was very disappointed.

Okay, another question: is the star map 3D?
I'm looking, and some of those stars seem like they're right on top of each other, almost like they're in front of or behind others.
Now, making the map 3D seems like a logical next step from the 2D map of SC2, and I think it's awesome if you've done it...but I obviously can't tell from that static, 2D image.
I did not know that. But IIRC, Alan Bradley has been used before by Stardock as the leader of one of the Galactic Civilizations factions.

It could well have been and I just never realized it.
Concerning the star map: was the amount of fuel you had at that point in time gained through normal play? If so, how long does it take to obtain enough fuel to travel such distances?
