I bought a new computer recently, and reinstalled Galactic Civilizations 3. It has been awhile since I played it, and I restarted many times until I caught on to how to do the first builds right early to keep up with the AI. I had fun before, and was excited to try the changes in 2.0.
The last two games, finally got it right, and was able to build up enough of a defensive fleet that when the Drengin, Krynn and Snathi attack (Huge map, all the races), I could defend. I have yet to declare a war since I reinstalled.
The last two games, the Peacekeepers have arrived, and proceeded to take out my ships (and a random starbase or shipyard, for good measure). The first time, they at least took out one of my enemy's ships, but I couldn't stop the other two.
This last game, despite the fact the Drengin were sending in wave after wave of 7 or 8 ship fleets with transports, the Peacekeepers only destroyed my ships, so I could watch the Drengin take half of my worlds before stopping.
What's the point in taking an otherwise fun game, and disrupting it with an arbitrary, destructive mechanic? I felt I had no options to influence my game the last two times I played. I had not started a war, was fighting defensively, and both games I had just started building my own transports to finally attempt a colony invasion when the Peacekeepers came and ended the game.
Are the Peacekeepers a guaranteed, or random chance event? Do they come by a certain turn? Can they be turned off?
As it stands now, I feel annoyed and that my time learning this game was wasted.
You win the lucky player award. I have been playing since Alpha and have over 1200 hours playing game after game. I play on insane and about 25 factions plus full ai.
In over 100 games I have NEVER once seen the Peace Keepers. <Not once>.. I have seen the Dread lords once and that was mid game and to be honest that was the best game I ever had. See-Saw back n forth with fleets getting annihilated by the dread lords and the destruction was everywhere without bias. Glorious! 250 turns later and I turned the tide.
Keep in mind that I set 'Super Events' like this to rare in my game setup settings. If yo have that on anything higher than rare be prepared for a big challenge and often. This does not solve your frustration but I would suggest kicking the occurrence of these events to rare as they should be...
Ha! Lucky player indeed. Playing with all opponents, I have been located directly next to the Krynn almost every game.
Thanks for the heads up on the setting...Steam must have had a sale, I see that I bought a half dozen DLC back in August, forgot about those.
I must have the setting turned up, because I have triggered the Peacekeepers 3 times in the last week.
LantharIllumen makes the case that I've been considering in my decision to hold off purchasing the mega events DLC.
In GCII, I've had a least 2 games where the Dread Lords appeared twice in one game, so I am totally aware of how Peacekeepers would attrit a player and not the AI's. Mercenaries kinda reinforces that fear - after all - ever see the AI using Mercenaries?
Yes I want the ship parts and if the Mega Events is toggable - I may go for it.
Like Larsenex, I have thousands of hours logged. I have seen the Peacekeepers twice, maybe three times. Once was when I was the one declared on and felt picked upon for defending myself. I ran from them for a while and they seemed to finally find my enemies. The other time, I just killed their ships and went on with my conquering. I haven't seen them again for a long while. I have my Events settings all on Abundant.
So, you are definitely too darn lucky for your own good.
When you go to steam click on Gal Civ III under the game you should see a box that lists your current purchased DLC and Expansions. You can uncheck which things you do not want. Other options would be to navigate your XML files under Mega Events and find the peace-keeprs or Dread lords and reduce what ever frequency they have the default set to and bring it to zero.
Wow, you do have a good streak of luck there. I've played 2700+ hours since it was released to the founders and have encountered them about 5x so far. My settings are all on default generally. I, too, got pissed off when it looked like they were focusing on me whether I was the aggressor or not. But I found that my fleets were more than a match for them almost every time they appeared. Yes, they can be a prick in your side but they are usually easily defeated after a certain point of your development. Juts don't put off building up your own fleets too long or you'll experience devastation like there's no tomorrow!
So far, I own and use them all - sans the Mega Events. Thanks very for the tips Larsenex.

Yeah, it's a freak RNG streak. I've had 3 Peacekeeper events in 10 games (including 2 in a row) - on the 'Rare' setting. All before I was capable of handling their ships.
Definitely something wrong with execution, though...as I reported, the Drengin's endless waves of invasion fleets were ignored - and I made sure to flee their direction, luring Peacekeeper ships within sensor range.
Ha! Started another game, at turn 102, I got the "Dread Lords" event. I think that DLC (or maybe Stardock) has it out for me and want my civilization to be dust!
I'm curious to see how the Dread Lords will destroy me and what they look like, so I'll continue to play this game out.
I just know that a few months from now, when I'm bored and welcoming the disruption of the Dread Lords or Peacekeepers, I won't get them then!
It used to be...in Gal Civ II that if you created a 'milky way' spiral galaxy (I think that was the setting) there would (always) dread lords at the center of that galaxy. The would harass and destroy everyone's ships and star-bases equally and could keep a civ down' by preventing the colony ships from getting to other planets. I seem to remember the Dread lords also had faster ships by default so it was a challenge to have them in game even early.
I would like a way to have that as well. Say the GST mod but with the dread lords a gauranteed spawn in the center of the galaxy wrecking havoc among everyone equally.
I got the dread lords once on this game, and never saw them on an immense galaxy. Where were all you guys when they kept complaining that the dread lords weren't tough enough.
I just got the Dread Lords event in my latest game. I was already about 200+ turns into it and had a good base setup with plenty of planets. They appeared next to one of my binary planet systems that was all built up but geared for research on both planets. They only had two ships which I killed within 4 turns. Built a transport within 3 more turns and invaded them. End of story. It was the most anti-climatic experience I've had with them and I've had probably close to 15 encounters with all my time in this game and they were only a challenge once or twice. In GC2 I always feared them like crazy when the event would fire off but not with GC3 I'm sad to say. My luck has been quite good with them. The Peacekeepers have actually given me more trouble.
Yeah dreadlords seem weak as heck. They show up and get killed maybe build a shit that is meh.
In GC2 they were soo much more powerful and scary. I need to find where their xmls are and buff em.

.... ever see the AI using Mercenaries?
Actually yes, the AI seems to use the Merc's quite a bit for me. They bought a couple of the ones I wanted in fact... They didn't buy them right away, but around the age of war they started loading up.
The most common complaint about the Jagged knife, and the other two was that it couldn't properly manage their empire, and the other Ai's seem to forget that they took their planets a lot more than that they lost their planets. I would like to see a fixed Jagged knife, and the other two in this game.
Hi everybody
So I'm new to GC3 and I've seen numerous posts on the peacekeepers. I'm playing in beginner mode to try and figure the game out and have encountered the "peacekeepers" about 8 times now. Now, once they appear I just quit the game because they just wipe me out and there's nothing I can do. they don't touch the other Civ(s) who generally start the war and then won't give me peace unless I give them everything.
Why haven't anything been done about these absurd events? I see the comments from GC3 people since 2015 but nothing seems to have been done. I mean my largest fleets are about 140 hit points and they come along with a 345 HP and blast me, my fleets, my traders, my colonists, everything but leave the AI alone so eventually the Ai can attack since I have nothing left.
