Set to launch on PC on October 21, 2016.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VI includes:
http://www.theverge.com/2016/5/11/11640726/civilization-6-vi-announcement-release-date
"Civ V was a huge success, which means that there won’t be any drastic changes to the formula for this latest release; the core will remain largely the same, with new features on top."
No changes? I guess that means that Civ V will be my last Civ game.
"enhanced multiplayer" just means a further dumbing down of the game for single players.
It will be interesting to see how or if they will continue to "streamline" the soul out of Civ...
I played and enjoyed Civs 1 through 4 but I did not enjoy Civ V either...darn it. I was also expecting this game to be quite beautiful but they have gone for the cartoony look it seems. Perhaps it will look better in motion but I'm disappointed.
I like Civ V better than any of the previous iterations, particularly w/ the expansions. I'm really looking forward to CVI. There's only one thing I wonder--will it work on my PC. I doubt it will, because my rig is 7 years old.
It sounds like an improvement on CIV5 - I won't be so quick to buy this time however as I was bitterly disappointed in CIV5. I believe it is the least # of hour spent on a CIV ever for me and I have been playing since CIV 1. Please make this franchise great again.
Not my kind of game, but the trailer is very nicely done. Stunning visually and i guess you cant never go wrong with the "Sunshine" music.

The article features some changes like districts and research boosting. All sounds good in theory.
From The Verge article:
"cities can now expand across multiple tiles, and where you place them is now of greater importance. The key to this is districts, important sections of a city that now take up their own tile. A campus district, for example, will be home to all science buildings, so you can’t build a library or research lab until you have the right district."
Districts really?
Someone needs to call up Sid and friends and remind them that the Civ series is a civilization building game, not a city building game...
Furthermore, you have to build districts in order to have certain buildings. That is just ridiculous. Heck, even city builders don't require you designate districts. That's just micromanagement going in a bad direction.
None of that matters. I play Civ 5 on HUGE maps like I do Gal Civ III and unlike Gal civ I have memory issues with Civ 5. Icons missing, units freezing and even CTD's.
This is one area I can seriously say that 64 bit WILL make a HUGE difference. If Civ 5 were 64 bit Id never get to work, (between Gal Civ and Civ 5, that is).
If its not 64 bit I will likely pass.
Seriously it flipin 2016, why are games being released so we can run into the '2 gig wall'? Why?
civ 5 was all about building cities, not building civilizations
but at least this time the happiness is local instead of global so you can actually make an empire if you're willing to micromanage enough
That is good. Hopefully it is easier to wage war too, I find that heavily penalised in Civ 5.
Though I have enjoyed other turn based games with one unit per tile I didn't like the scale down in 5. I wish they had taken more of an Endless Legend route which limits stack sizes and increases them a bit with tech upgrades. I know they are allowing some minor joining of forces but there is a quote saying it is more the exception rather than the rule. BTW even the designer of Civ 5 Jon Shafer wrote a lengthy analysis of why one tile per square did not work for Civ 5.
Agree. Agree. Oh, did I mention I agree!
VI might be the first Civ I'm not buying, spent 468 hours on CiV V according to Steam, but still can't say the direction is a compelling one. Wanted to love it though! And tried hard! I've spent the most time with II, and IV. Well, not that I had Steam back then. So can't document it, but the Civ II Collector's Edition, is still sitting nicely in the bookcase. They knew how to make 'em back then!
The series is just not the same anymore. Everything is shinier, yet not so deep and engaging as it once appeared to be. Maybe you had to do some of it in the head, or something. Hehe....
Hopefully they btrought back citizen management.
I'm with Zarkov on this one. I started on the original civ, then civ2 ... civ5. Each iteration has its charm. Civ3 with its HG wells scenario - great memories for me. Civ5 does have the best graphics, and really cool music and voice overs. However, game play wise, civ 4 wins hands down.
And the civ4 mods, Fall from Heaven2, Wrye's and Fall of Civ, both wonderful experiences. And then there's Loreth's mod: A New Dawn (love the Egyptian Religion/buildings etc.) Civ4 is way better (IMHO) than civ5, and that includes my preference for the UPT rules in Civ5. (Many veteran civ players don't like one unit per hex - I like it.) Civ4 plays much better when you use the mod that limits the size of stacks (I hate the stacks of doom). Bottom line, I will very likely not get civ6. I will wait and watch the YouTube vids, etc. Maybe it might get me. But only when its on sale at deep discount.
As of today over at the Civ 6 Reddit. There is a 'combined information post' In it is listed the following.
On paper that looks like some nice improvements. I hope the multi-threaded means we no longer have to wait multi-minutes for the AI's turn to finish.
So far, things are looking good. I have been watching some of the game play videos. So far what they are showing looks promising. One thing I am sure they are not mentioning is that Civ 6 <will> run into the same issues that Gal Civ III did as the player scales up in map size.
Larger maps = more memory. No way around this. I have wanted to play a 'Gal Civ Insane' sized map in Civilization and it may be possible. I can hear the player whining now...why cant I play super mega size maps, I have 6 gigs of ram!!!
I upgraded from 8 gigs to 16 and I rarely ever have any issues playing GCIII. I <<WILL>> build a new computer using the new/older Intel HED processors I6900K (8cores/16 threads) for this very reason. Its ideally for playing GCIII and Civ 6 both are games that are 'optimized' for using multi core/threaded systems. I have a $2500 budget so hopefully the Broadwells will be out by January.
Really someone just stole my computer. Last i checked civilization was shrinking down their maps. They don't like big maps.
Art style reminds me a bit of Sorcerer King. Which isn't surprising since it was largely designed by the former art director at Firaxis.
I'll link this here for all currently known features and is updated every week- http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=567144I think for more info 2k's usually is every 2 weeks and E3 is just around the corner so more soon. Ya they are definitely taking notes from Endless Legends and Civ5 Community Patch (thats good). Really damn good Huge mod for Civ 5 that I highly recommend- Community Patch (works in Multiplayer too)- Change logs- https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LpM ... 8ERlg/edit Wiki- http://civ-5-cbp.wikia.com/wiki/Civ_5_CBP_Wikia
I play Civ V with the community patch. It is amazing. I look forward to mods coming out for Civ VI that do the same. Unfortunately when I play with the community mod, I will run into memory issues later in game. Hopefully we will not have these problems.
It seems like they are taking the last CIV and polishing the hell out of it
The single session multiplayer part is what interests me, saturday evening, couple of beers, me and friends
on teamspeak, that's gonna good
Hey Lar, did not know about the communitas patch for civ 5. Checked it out because of postings here. It is way better! Thanks. BTW, I also noted two new DCLs, the scrambled map and nations. They worthwhile?
I did not get Nations or Scrambled map. I kinda shelved Civ V cause the memory issue kills my game play and i am never able to finish a game. The communitas patch is great but late game I have missing icons.
I play on smaller maps...
