A fleet management screen and a sortable planet screen (that includes uncolonized but habitable), are added.
These are basic features of this genre, and their exclusion is ridiculous. Brad, what were you thinking?
There is a fleet management screen. Not sure it fits your needs, but so far works okay for me. Lists though, man the lists become useless after about 30 entries without meaningful sorts.
There's a sortable planet screen as well, but it only shows you the planets you own. I think that's sufficient.
It can be improved though. Currently, after you select a planet based on economy, population, manufacturing, or whatever, the list forgets your sort selection when you return from the planet. Also, when you select a planet from that screen, the game's focus should go to that planet so you can find it on the map.
I'm sure the devs will work on the lists over time. It certainly has that unfinished feel to it for now. It's not a game killer in any case.
Clearly we have different opinions on what a game killer is. The type of functionality I mentioned are in any good 4X space game. The ship list gets immense late game and you have to click on every ship in the list to find your fleets. This, and using the map to find fleets and uninhabited planets is the height of tedium. Not the mention the inability to quickly find fleets by various criteria, such as fleet strength or logistic points etc., and the same goes for planets and their attributes such as wealth, research and so on. I understand that some people don't like "spreadsheet" screens but they are the best way to quickly manage large empires. I hear people saying "zoom out the map" but the doesn't sort anything so on the largest maps it's not practical.
I have to agree as I have been playing Endless Space lately. The ability to turn on governors, combined with the power of the spreadsheet sorts, makes large empire management much easier than GC3. I hope SD and crew fixes this soon.
I'm not saying it's perfect. I'm not even saying it's acceptable. In my opinion, it's neither. That being said, one of your requirements is a planet screen that you can sort by economy, manufacturing strength, or whatever. You don't need to go through the map to look at these things. There's a sort-able planet screen that lets you do that. Unfortunately, you have to re-sort the planets when you return to the screen. Not perfect. Not even close, but it's there.
There's a ship management screen that lets you send all of a type of ship to a location. That comes in handy when you have 100 transports that suddenly need to shift their focus to the other side of the galaxy.
One thing you require is a fleet management screen. That would be super if GC3 had one. If it does, I haven't found it in over 500 hours of game time.
It's not my desire to talk you into buying the game. I have no dog in that fight. Still, we shouldn't complain that it's missing something that's clearly there (the sort-able planet screen). Even if it's not up to standard.
Endless Space is a great game. It's not as ambitious as GC3, but it's more refined. Bugs persist, but the devs there are very responsive to the gamers. I'm looking forward to ES2.
I didn't design GC3 but I know the team is very much looking to add a lot of new UI niceties to 1.3.
That's good to hear. I loved GC1 and GC2, I'd like to love GC3 as well.
Yeah. I really, really think every Dev on the planet should play ES and take notes on the UI design. I think it still is the best UI for this sort of game i ever had the pleasure to use.
I dont think GC3 will evolve into a good game even with 100+ patch, the dev is understaff and dont have budget to fix and add the decent feature that usually exist in 4x space game.
IMHO, i will leave this game for good until they can fix AND improve:
1. AI stupidness (strategic AI)
2. Space Battle Sequence.
3. Land Battle Sequence.
4. Diplomatic sequence. (alliiance, pact etc)
5. Trading sequence.
Too many broken and missing feature!
I hope that GC4 will bring a solid game like MOO2 or CIV5.
Goodbye GC3.
Civ5 was broken at launch as well, and didn't become what it is until gods & kings. Hopefully GC3 will get there as well. It sucks having to wait, and to pay $100 for a $50 game. Steam sale in 2017 I guess. What a shame.
While this could be true, I doubt you have any actual information that proves this. More likely you are making this assumption because Stardock is working on what... 4 games? Sorcerer King, Servo, Ashes of the Singularity, and GC3?
You could assume they are understaffed, or you could assume that they expanded their staff and capabilities significantly over the years (I'm sure the sale of what is today Origin digital distribution helped) and now can afford to work on that many projects and increase their profits and cashflow appropriately.
This is likely a very good time for Stardock as they get to work on more GAMES than ever before! (good for them!)
I don't think GC2 problems got updated any faster than GC3 is now either, so I'm not really seeing a downside here.
For what it's worth, I'd like to compliment Stardock for having it's heart in the right place. I bought the collectors edition of Elemental when it first cam out, and Brad later sent me an email apologizing for the condition the game was in, and gave me a free copy of Fallen Enchantress. Very classy.
Fair enough, I am looking at let's play videos to learn about the game and did not realize there was a colony screen under govern. I don't care so much that it doesn't remember your sort as I'm usually looking at different properties each time.
This plus the ability to upgrade all ships to another type is a powerful feature. But it still doesn't help when I need to find my most powerful fleets, or fleets that are under the logistics cap and could use reinforcements, docked fleets, etc.
To be honest, I like to think of the ship and colony management tools under the govern tab as being a good sign for things to come. It's clearly under-developed at this stage, but does show great potential; I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a lot of improvement in that area fairly soon.
For what its worth I was on the same boat as you. Classy as it was, FE needed more work and thay gave it up and started Sorcerrer King.
But for GC3 it seems we have to wait for 3 expansions and 10 DLCs before we get the game we were promised.
Now thank god I'm not a founder, and I will wait for reviews and for hell to freeze over to buy any more addons for GC3 in the future.
