I think the Hyperion Shrinker needs some reworking. Yes it does indeed allow ships manufactured from the origin planet's shipyard to have more capacity. However, it is kind of pointless when you have no control over what the extra capacity is used for. For example, the constructors built by the shipyard from the planet that has my Hyperion Shrinker automatically come with extra life support range modules and a sensor module, which contructors from my other shipyards don't have. Ok great, but I really don't want or need more range or extra sensors on my constructors, I would much rather have something like another contructor module or more engines. And I have no idea yet what it will decide to put on any kind of warship I build at that starbase, but it is probably a good bet it won't be something I wanted it to do with the extra space available.
This is kind of like the colony capitol placement at the moment. As a Galactic Emperor, I really don't want what my own empire is creating and doing to be a random crapshoot. I want the final say in all aspects of what my Empire is doing.
the hyperion shrinker should be all ships and you can design your own ships using the ship designer
I agree. In GC II the 15% mass reduction from this building was Empire wide. All of the others can kinda work on individual shipyards, that being Logistics or range.
However the bonus of reduction in mass cannot really be used as we cannot apply it when building custom ships. This one fact will actually keep me from wasting a planetary tile until later in game.
We need to change 'Hyperion Shrinker' to be an 'Empire Wide' bonus which reduces mass of all parts in Ship designer by a fixed amount.
If I could have a way to tell the ship designer to pretend this base hull had x% more hull capacity, I could design ships for Hyperion vs non-Hyperion planets. I wouldn't want to; it would be nightmare micro management. I think having the Shrinker as an Empire-wide unique building would be much better. And please keep the feature where we can capture another races Shrinker and have it stack. That is fun!
I don't use the individual planet and range enhancements. I can't keep track of ships that are just slightly different from each other. Especially when it comes to masses of fleets. I would prefer those were done on a per-empire basis, also.
To clarify, THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESCRIPTION. What it *actually* does is apply an empire-wide bonus to ship hulls.
Interesting! I have not been building since I figured the space was worth more than the 1 planet improvement. I will definitely build it now.
Does this include all the Hyperion improvements?
If I understand the OP, applying the improvement to the "wrong" ships is easily fixed. Just obsolete what you don't like and build what you wish. If your version is an improvement the obsolete ship shouldn't come back. Either way, your design will be there.
Holy Batman! Yikes! It never occurred to me to check this possibility out. 1,000 thanks.
Symosin are you sure? I really hope you are correct. This is how it is in GC II as I assume its also supposed to be here.
Thanks very much Ill test this...
It is as 5myosin says.
And the Hyperion Shrinker is ridiculously powerful when combined with other military buildings. See the postings in this thread: Miniaturization - how does it work in this game?
Yeah i had it at 45% i should have looked around for a bonus military tile first
So Military tiles add to the reduction in mass via the Hyperion Shrinker? Thats amazing and from what you are telling me is it gets even better when you add military buildings around it!
Oh Earth is gonna go full out production of death stars!
