So my biggest annoyance with GalCiv II lately is that is seems to crash 2 times out of 3 when I alt tab out of it and try to come back. I think It might be related to screen resolution. I am running GalCiv in lower than desktop resolution as otherwise the UI gets too small.
Anyone has found a solution for this ? Running win 7 64 bit btw.
Yes! you don't run it in full screen mode. Whilst it will still fit to screen it won't bug when you alt tab, since it is part of that window. It might sometimes lag a bit after switching back but give it a few seconds.
Hope it helps, was hell for me since I record games and lost part of a save I was using for a lets play, luckily did not loose much progress. Set auto save to every 2 or 4 saves and manually save often incase of other crashes. It is afterall an 8 year old game running on 64 bit.

I had thought about that, my only issue is that I would need to run the game in 1920x1200 to have it in full screen windowed mode. Then the icons and characters get too small for my liking. Or maybe I could switch my desktop resolution instead...
Maybe I will try running in win XP mode.
XP mode might be your best option then, although it may cause other issues.
In any case, try unclicking full screen even on lower resolutions.
Or get a bigger screen (GC2 look lovely in 1920×1080 on a 32 inch HDTV)
