Well I am playing another game of Gal Civ II. Both APT and Autumn Twilight are great mods and I am once again losing sleep and being late for work because of you BRAD!
Anyway if I were to add my 2 cents to any desire in making Gal Civ III it would be to keep in the snarky comments from various leaders. Although I have played at least 100+ games in the years, I actually fell out of my seat laughing yet again when the Krynn popped up and said....."Stop, Just please Stop, you are embarrassing both of us with your build up of forces next to my planet".....
Needless to say I was laughing all the way to the declare war button.......
Some of the things the leaders say are just too funny.
"OOOO your skin looks delicious!"
Anyway there is not a single game that i am aware of that puts in the laughter in Slaughter like Gal Civ II does. Please keep it in III.
I also agree that the humor was one of the aspects of GalCiv2 that hooked me. The game had a very charming tone without being too silly. I could never get into Sword of the Stars because they had weird aliens like dolphins and such that just seemed too ridiculous. I think one of the minor races in GalCiv2 were squirrels though, which was pushing it for me. The Elemental games really suffered from being too serious though IMHO.
I agree the snarky remarks are also what pulled me in to the game. It was just glorious, and needs to remain in GalcivIII
Well about remarks, spaceballs, and star wars it's all about the character that Stardock want to give the game. I don't care much about this except I like games better whrn they have something random ie events, anomolies and such.
I agree that different factions think differently, but to create factions that don't think human is kind of complicated considering the best of your sci fi comes up with ideas from their lives to be realistic.
So true. However, I have run into a couple of really thought provoking sci-fi that touch on the issue. "Taken," a sci fi TV series that had a very intriguing plot concept. <spoiler> <you did see the spoiler alert, yes?> Story follows majority UFO mythology as expressed within in Western Culture. Greys interbreeding with humans, probings, experiments (Is that latex clean?), Psi powers, yada. In this inter-generational saga of a Grey's mixed lineage of human / hybrids... the greys face a concept that never occurred to them: causing suffering in subjects of experiments is actually immoral behavior. Blind spots make for great character traits, even for a species in GalCiv. It happens in science, as well. The Chinese had gunpowder literally ages before the Europeans. They used it for entertainment (soft social control?) while Europeans had contests as to who could build the best weapons. The pre-colombian Mayans never invented the wheel (used wheeled vehicles) , while excelling in many other sciences. Besides, the Greys in my neighborhood don't want to contribute ideas for species traits in a PC game. They seem to prefer curling.
I also throw in my vote in favor of the humorous content. It is something I always liked About GalCiv. The humor is part of the game now. I say keep going with the Margarita approach.
Is there a way to activate the Tech reports when trading techs in GalCiv2? I am missing on all the reports because I trade techs too much.
Mouse over the tech you want to see and right click it.
The humour in spaceball is satire and pop reference. The humour in Galciv, for the most part, is informative; it really just highlight the differences or the specific aspects of the species, in a really efficient manner. It also make the game sounds self-concious, and thus avod the trap of taking itself too seriously.
This hasn't been announced yet but there should be some perks for hanging out on our forums. We hired Chris bucholz from cracked.com as a full time writer. Most of his work will be for star control but he's also involved in GGalCiv iii and another unannounced title.
Quickly someone get more margaritas! His tongue is loosening!
Praise the Lord!
Mhm, we understand... Which one would that be? Don't think please, just answer.
Ah, ranks system maybe? Sort of:
Nerdman.
Able Nerdman.
Petty Nerd, 3rd Class.
Petty Nerd, 2nd Class.
Petty Nerd, 1st Class.
Chief Petty Nerd.
Master Chief Petty Nerd.
NCN (Newly Commissioned Nerd).
SubNerdtenant.
Nerdtenant.
Nerdtenant Commander.
Comnerder.
Nerdtain.
Rear Nerdmiral.
Vice Nerdmiral.
Nerdmiral.
Fleet Nerdmiral.
Funny Rudy_102.
I think the unannounced title might be called. "The world of Nerd" a game about crying in a dark room in your moms house eating a cold slice of pizza while insulting your fellow gamers on voice chat. But then everything changes...our hero/heroin gets food poisoning and has to leave the safety of the basement/bathroom/bedroom for medical treatment. Then the world is revealed! And a quest to replicate all the insanity and violence of the game as a superhero begins. After countless and continuous years of gaming you are now ready to walk with society. (literally take your first steps in years)
after returning home with your bag of meds and a doctors appointment with someone called a "psychologist" you find the city coroner bagging your mother. When asked what happened the the man says. "she's been dead for years? How could you not know?"
with a newly inherited house as your base of operations. Do anything you want.
that's my best guess. And you can emulate any game genre from FPS to TBS. Am I right stardock!
LOL I'm just joking. I know this will never be real please don't send me hate mail.
DARCA
Oh noe!
My Heroin can get food poisoning!
lol
Hey DARCA, if your hero overdosed on heroin then he'd die and not be able to save his heroine.
Sometimes good spelling becomes very important. Heroin is a drug. A hero's gender alternate is a heroine.
Which brings a thought. The snarky comments could be spiced up by putting in mistakes that could easily happen with ESL communication.
This is funny, but you are right that if you mixed up words like that on a universal translator that would be funny.
In awkward translation, human and alien mistakes, cultural misunderstandings, and those catastrophic dinner parties we trust! He he.
What if, what if, DARCA1213 has just stumbled upon the true origin of the Yor?
You mean silicone instead of silicon?
She could have personal traynor, and that's could be worse.
Mass Effect reference?
Another example of auto correct spelling and predictive spelling skewing me nine ways til Sunday.
and swear you have to be a grammar school teacher Lucky Jack.
please tell me!
and in the game you can take down drug dealers. And use the drugs like HEROIN to continue your delusions. Finding rare drugs like pcp can give you super strength. Speed can give you super speed. And lsd can make you fly see though walls and travel to the fabric of time! Or you can turn them over the the police for a reward so you can buy more video games pay the electricity bill or pizzas. So many diverse chooses for all types of players!
and for the boss level you have to defeat your psychiatrist after you find out he's really a drug kingpin. Can you defeat him when he knows your heart, head, and what's in your veins! After the great boss battle it is revealed that your psychiatrist was working for the moon people and was selling there drugs to the people of earth to make us easier to invade. And only you "The Moon Born" are immune to the moon dust. You must fly to the moon to stop the dragon riding moon reaper creepers. And there leader lord Yarl Ulfric Kona.
so ends the first game and the beginning of the second. Did I mention Meth the imaginary dog, and the pharmacist you fall in love with. and last but not least Pervert Pete the homeless Karate/kung fo master who teaches you how to sneak, fight and gives you intel on people from his days as a peeping Tom. Together you will rule the world. Or at least think that you do.
I couldn't keep a straight face while writing this. And may Stardock have a good fate while making this new game.
That was funny!!!
Woo! That was convoluted! And really funny!
DARCA1213 rules!
*donning sunglasses, Caruso style*
