Hey, everybody. I posted this in the wrong section of the forums (General), so I'll try posting it in the section I meant to this time, and hopefully get some feedback.
From the original post:
Hey there, hope everyone's doing all right. I was wondering if anyone else would like to see an option on the menu to disable AI surrender in a Sins Rebellion game. I've posted about this once or twice, but I'm saying it here so it doesn't clog up other threads and get buried: it would be nice to have the option to fight the comp to the bitter end when you wanted to. I know, I know, "you can just hit 'Keep Playing'", but that's not what I'm talking about. It seems like when the AI surrenders, it stops doing anything meaningful and just sits there like a stump. I'm a long-time Sins player, been around since vanilla Sins, and I actually enjoyed fighting an AI that would not quit and fight you to the bitter end. It lent a feeling that the enemy really was a fanatical, determined opponent like in the fluff and it gave a sense of satisfaction when the last ship went down and the last planet fell (as long as it wasn't yours). By contrast, most if not all of my Rebellion games end with an AI surrender, sometimes after one or two battles, sometimes after none. My last Rebellion game (1v1, large map, random AI) ended when the AI threw in the towel before even making contact. I didn't see one darned scout running around. I was expanding fairly quickly and had two or three cap ships (titan was under construction, love those things). I checked the results screen, it had five worlds to my fourteen and a smaller fleet, so I guess it just figured it couldn't win and gave up without a fight. Talk about frustrating!
I hate sounding like a single-issue guy, but it's the only problem I have with Rebellion. I'm not asking to remove AI surrender, that would be almost as bad (since it's useful if you just want a quick game), but something along the lines of an option on the victory conditions screen at the start of a game to disable AI surrender would be appreciated. Just a small button in the corner of the conditions screen, you know, for those times you want a long campaign?
Aside from vowing from now on to check where the settings are putting my posts (a common sense sort of thing, but it seems my common sense abandoned me for a moment there) I hope to hear some other people's thoughts on the matter of AI surrender. What does everyone else think?
Couldn't hurt.
An option would be awesome. First off you fend off the AI for 3 hours... and when you are ready for payback time.... its surrenders...
Seen a "Disable AI Surrender Option" thread like this before.
I still agree with and support this wholeheartedly. PLEASE Stardock make this an option in our gameplay for Big Game Hunters like me.
Bring on an option to disable AI surrender I say.
I buy 4x games to play nice long games not view my after action report as quickly as possible.
Or at least make keep playing not useless, disabling all constructions and abilities is kind of incredibly stupid. Not sure what the thinking was there.
It cuts off achievements, too, don't forget. Kind of hard to get a forty planet empire going or kill 1k pirates before the AI quits in a huff, lol. Small complaint, yes, and not very important, but still valid.
This is something I'd defer to Blair on since it deals with the AI.
Yeah, I have it in my notes to implement for next patch. It annoys me too because I'm the kinda guy who wants to wipe every last one of them b@stards out even if it takes me another 4 hours.
Oh, awesome. That's so good to hear, big-time thank you to the folks at Ironclad! Now to wait. Wait and drool...
Or, maybe check out the new DLC. That works too!
Wait what? The AI doesn't surrender for you?
Back when I last played, in about June/July of this year, I would play against the AI for hours. I would have 27 planets, it would have 1.
Never surrendered.
It seems to be random for me. When the AI feels.. he has no chance to win.
It was a relatively recent change...so if you're not using the latest version for whatever reason then it obviously wont be effecting you.
Actually the AI has been able to surrender for years. It is just pretty much always been very inconsistent when it does. Sometimes it fights to the death, sometimes as soon as you start winning.
An amazing feat given rebellion was released last year.
Sins has been around since 2008. AI surrender was added in the Entrenchment expansion, or perhaps a bit before that.
Any chance at set up, we could have Random teams but not the one you are so the enemy is a surprise......
COOL!
Oh right. And I last updated pre June.
So where are the change logs for patches released since then?

sins has sure, rebellion hasn't. and with 100~hrs of only single player I only had surrenders recently. Seems a bit far fetched to call it a coincidence. Either it was recently added to rebellion or they overhauled how the ai surrenders...again either way a recent change.
I promise you it is a coincidence. As I said before, since the day it was implemented it has not been consistent at all at when it surrenders. Now I can't be sure random AI tweaks over the years haven't increased or decreased the probability of surrender inadvertently, but I'm sure the change logs would have said something if they outright removed or readded it. And I seem to remember getting AI surrenders in the Rebellion beta.
It's true. The AI definitely surrenders infrequently and illogically. It's why 27 planets to 1 was so ridiculous - I knew the AI could surrender.
Oh god yes I can't wait.
Any word on when that will be? I'm new to the Sins community, and I'm an achievement hunter desperate for more time per match.
