As you probably know, we have released the WindowBlinds 7.90 beta today. Please use this thread only to report any issues that you come across that you'd like to report.
Note: Current beta is only for active Object Desktop subscribers. Info about upgrades for current WindowBlinds (non-Object Desktop) customers will be available at a later date.
Same problem as doctorx. Installed, rebooted and got "Windowblinds does not appear to be correctly installed on your machine. Would you like to try to fix this issue now?"If I click Yes, still the same problem. Uninstalled, rebooted, turned off AV (ESET 6), reinstalled, rebooted, still no go.Service is running and wbcore.exe exists.

I'm having the same problem with Windowblinds isn't installed correctly. Disabled antivirus didn't fix it. I have Eset 6 as well... Windowblinds is listed in services.msc and wbcore.exe is in the windowblinds directory. Not sure what the problem is.
Does the skin needs to specifically support Win8? I'm running the Lantana skin and when copying/moving files in Win8, I get no history of transfer speed (but I do without a WB skin).

I had the install problem that others had, but I was able to solve it. I think it was because when I was on Windows 7, I had WindowBlinds 7 installed, then I followed the standard upgrade to Windows 8. WindowBlinds 7 was still listed in Add/Remove programs even though it wasn't active, and all of my previously installed skins were there.
I fixed the problem by running the WindowBlinds 8 installer again, which asked me to reboot. After the reboot, the skin I had activated earlier was working and it's all fine now. I hope this helps someone else.
Hello,
I have 2 computers running Windows 8 pro 64bit- one is an HP & the other is a Toshiba. This new Windowblinds 8 beta doesn't work in either of my computers. Isn't it nice that I pay yearly for Object Desktop, which I haven't been able to use Windowblinds or several other programs for almost a year now. Shame on Stardock!
Very Sad,
mecpooler
I run eset 6 on both of my computers. Can use Windblinds 8 only if I disable the Hips protection! Thank you for all your help!
I can't figure it out... what I can however is that I too did upgrade from windows 7 to windows 8 64bit. I tried the solution where I run the installer again. It did reboot but then still didn't work. I disabled my security software, didn't help. Also all of my settings are the same as they were under windows 7. So there is still part of that windowblinds left behind. Not sure where though. I checked after I uninstalled and the windowblinds folder was completely deleted.
Hm, there seems to be a problem with Eset 6. WindowBlinds not running here either.
yep.... it is eset... i just uninstalled it and it is now working. Funny though... absolutely no other programs have issues with it.
Hi There,
Happy to see this new an long awaited version coming along fine! Just installed and up to now nothing really bothering came up.
Only pet peeve: Please add a configuration for shadows, so that the visual 3D appearance can get enhanced.

You should uninstsall WB 7 first as WB 8 is not an upgrade. It should reboot automatically. Then install WB 8 and reboot again. That's how I did it and it works fine.
Unfortunately it looks like this may be something only ESET can fix as it is something they are doing.
Excluding wbcore.exe from it didn't seem to help here.
EDIT: I have found a way to make ESET happy.
Open the configuration window for ESET, click on the setup option.
Then under Computer you should see something called HIPS with a green dot and enabled next to it. Click on enabled and pick setup from the menu.
On the Advanced setup screen find the configure rules button and click it.
Then click new... at the bottom
Give the rule a name like WindowBlinds and set action to ALLOW.
Then on the source applications tab pick Add... and browse to the WindowBlinds directory and select wbcore.exe
As best I can tell you do not need to configure any of the permissions on the other tabs, but if this still does not work then just tick them all.
Then click ok on each of the dialogs and sign out.
When you sign back in you should find WindowBlinds 8 is now happy with ESET (or rather ESET is happy with WindowBlinds)

We will be contacting them to see if they can white list us as that's an unreasonable number of steps.
These steps are only required on Windows 8. Windows 7 users should not need to do that.
The only issues I have come across so far are:
Skinned windows do not work with windowfx (was going to include a video but decided no need unless others have it working)
explorer windows are not skinned, they seem to be classic style.
Start 8 now seems ot have really odd behaviour, press the windows key the start8 menu appears as normal, press it again to close it and it then opens the windows start screen in the space where the menu appeared before
None of those issues are normal. Explorer windows should be skinned, WindowFX should work just fine with them and Start8 should work as it always has done.
I rebooted just incase and was met with a black screen after login with the taskbar at the bottom flashing on and off and the system going no further, took a while to be able to force safe mode. uninstalled windowblinds beta and all is good again
is there any kind of a log file or info I can provide that may help with this?
Please download and run the following utility: http://sd.stardock.com/SDSupportTool.exeThis is a tool that we use to gather relevant log files and basic information about your computer. Once the utility finishes running, please send the .zip file it creates on the desktop to support@stardock.com
Do you have any antivirus / anti malware software installed?
Guess I'll ask this question again in a different way. I noticed there are some skins that come with WB8 that you cannot delete, the delete text is grayed out, but there are others that say they can be deleted. Will deleting them cause any issues with WB8 functionality?
The only skins that you cannot delete are Aero, classic and modified aero as those are OS skins.
Thanks you very much Neil.
Only comodo, so i completely disabled it, rebooted, checked it was still disabled, then installed windowblinds
Apologies for the low quality, I tried using my screen grab software but that wouldnt record the desktop, as you can see the desktop disappears, and the taskbar cycles round partially appearing. right click options out of the open windows do nothing, windows key does nothing, if i close the windows on screen i am left with a black screen and the flashing taskbar, the only way to reboot is ctrl alt del, and select power. if i restart it boots up, as soon as I sign in it goes to desktop with the taskbar flashing and a black background, no icons, no windows function (if I open taskmanager, it opens behind the black screen) again only way to restart is ctr-alt-del, power route.
If I select windows aero, the system runs, but displays the oddbal start8 behaviour i mentioned
Once uninstalled, the system boots up fine and restarts quite happily.

It looks like explorer is crashing out. Is there anything in your event log about that?
EDIT: I have this recollection that comodo will continue to cause crashes unless totally removed from a machine. That may well be what is going on here.
don't know, but seems logical, don't delete the skinstudio default skin either.
Photoshop CS6 has problems with WB8. The top tool bar gets wonky.
I have excluded PS CS6 from being skinned, as before.
Pics or it didn't happen.
