Cataclysm was far ahead of HW or HW2 in terms of gameplay, fluidity, and sheer fun, and the title as a whole broke new ground in amazing ways for strategy gaming. The balance between the two factions was off in multiplayer (beast players had a rough time against certain Kiith strats) but I for one would absolutely love to see a new game in this series done right.
I have no doubt you SD employees can't comment (especially if you actually are pursuing this) but I'd be interested to see how many people on this forum are feeling this way also.
me 2 ! bump! it will do good
Right now there are two threads with varying bits of info including what I posted earlier this morning and this one, Trust me, we have been dropping subtle hints...
I don't think the licence would magically ressurect what was memorable on the first two games.
Seeing how spin-offs and imitations like O.R.B. and Haegemonia failed miserably, I would rather not disturb the fond memory I have of the franchise with some hasty remake. Without the original developer team, I think there is little chance of doing it right.
Ironclad Games is a Canadian PC game developer. The company was founded in 2003 by former employees of Barking Dog Studios/Rockstar Games. Ironclad is located in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Barking Dog Studios founded in May 1998 by Glenn Barnes, Christopher Mair, Sean Thompson, Michael Gyori, Peter Grant and Brian Thalken, all former employees of Radical Entertainment.Barking Dog, with publishing assistance by Sierra Studios, moved on to produce an expansion to the 1999 PC Magazine Game of the Year Homeworld entitled Homeworld: Cataclysm. Homeworld had been developed by Relic Entertainment but Sierra chose instead to use Barking Dog to develop the game.
Barking Dog also produced other games such as Global Operations, and Treasure Planet: Battle at Procyon. They were acquired by Rockstar Games in August 2002, and became known as Rockstar Vancouver.
Many of Barking Dog's employees later split off to form their own companies, such as Slant Six Games, Big Sandwich Games,Hellbent Games, Kerberos Productions and Ironclad Games.

If one of the 5 companies get their hands on Homeworld, I do believe it will be in good hands...
Ya I think SD would put out a very quality product, and like Bison says a lot of people who worked on Cataclysm (the best HW by far) are at IC/SD now. It's a perfect fit.
Like in said in the other topic. Stardock would be foolish to pass up on this opportunity. I do not want to think of what a company like EA would do to the franchise.
However, Kamamura does have a point. Just because you got the IP license, and plan on making a new installment isn't going to bring back what made the game great.
What i would do if i acquired the IP is to remake the original games, and combine them into a set (Call it "Super Homeworld"). All in a unaltered state as far as game play is concerned. Gameplay would remain exactly as it is now for each game, but the games would be built on a new 64 bit engine, Focusing on much higher detail ships, and effects.
This new engine would be used for the next installment (improved upon of course). Under the condition of those who worked on the original Homeworld would be involved in the project. Even if as just advisers.
I wonder if Beghins will step up. (HW2 Complex Mod lead) He is a Lawyer. (don't know how far up the ladder he is but still...)
Perhaps Bentusi traders could sponsor a sequel
I think Stardock should get the rights to make a Buck Rogers game. I'm not joking, that old Buck Rogers game I had on my Sega Genesis was awesome.
Homeworld, yes. Even rumors stardock would do Homeworld would open my wallet.
And Dominions 4? That ould open floodgates!
Obsidian is doing a RPG based on Dominions. It's going to be set after the conquest of Agartha by humans of Ulm, and be about humans living in Agartha and the mysterious slow extinction of the Pale Ones race.
Well, maybe not true...but should be.
