So it seems that THQ is finally going down and may be even sold not in one piece, as they hoped, but in pieces - i suppose that means that the rights to their games may be sold separately to the highest bidder...
I just wonder if Stardock would not be interested in Homeworld IP, if it was up for sale? I somehow cant see the likes of EA to be interested , so i doubt there would be a bidding war over this one...
As much as i am looking forward to possible Sins 2, i absolutely would not mind to see a game in the Sins mould set in a Homeworld universe even before that... btw, werent the guys at Ironclad once working at Relic or Barking Dog on original HW/Cataclysm? Or am i mistaking them for Kerberos? Anyway, if the former is true, they might be actually more "apt" to create another HW game than Relic themselves (as i suppose they are vastly different company personnel-wise now than they were back at the turn of millenium)....
So fellow Homeworld-lovers, your opinions?
What is awesome about homeworld? What kind of game is it?
It was an RTS game with aliens and shit.
It is the best game evar kind of game.
It's a 3D space RTS. It has a great story and atmosphere, and plays almost opposite of the other space RTS that came out a year earlier, Starcraft. Whereas SC was mainly fast-paced, small scale tactics-oriented, Homeworld was slower-paced, relied on formations, larger scale tactics and strategy. I believe it won Game of the Year in 1999.
It's very good, but I always hated how you were pigeonholed into salvaging enemy craft if you ever wanted to actually succeed at any of the missions. I also hated how ships carried over from campaign mission to mission, so if you screwed up one scenario but still won, you could be in deep trouble... it basically forced you to play every mission more than once and to get it close to perfect. It also had a clunky interface for 3-D maneuvering. Homeworld was one of those games that I felt like, "Arrrgh, this game is awesome! This part is frustrating, but I'm still having tons of fun, arrgh!"
Well to be fair, it made a bit more sense and immersive that the fleet actually hyperspaces with me. Not disappear into thin air or is suddenly buffed.
