Q: What is the Map Pack?
A: It is a collection of pre-made maps and random map stamps.
Q: Does it help with randomly generated maps?
A: Yes, it includes a host of new stamps that make the random maps richer as well.
Q: What’s special about the pre-made maps over a randomly generated map?
A: With pre-made maps, we can do things that the random map generator can’t.
Q: Like what?
A: For example, it includes the Anthys map which is over 5X bigger than the normal large map. A normal large map fills up with 8 players. With Anthsys, over a dozen players would have lots of room to expand.
We also have boats on these maps that players can take to sail out to areas and explore the seas for hidden islands and treasures. Pre-made maps also let us do crazy things like have a map where it’s all Wild Lands all the time with everyone trying to survive and ultimately conquer them.
Q: Are the starting positions hard-coded?
A: No, even on Anthys, we made it so that the starting positions are randomized so that you can play it over and over again.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: $4.99
Q: Where can I get it?
A: You can get it here: https://www.elementalgame.com/fallen-enchantress/purchase. If you bought FE on Steam, you can get it on the Steam page.
It would be nice if we simply had a "canon" Anthys map. The map is enormous, there's no reason why it can't include fixed start locations for all the factions as well as all the wildlands. Tell us the story that you envisioned for Anthys in the first place! There's a reason why Earth maps are so popular in Civ4/5.
So can you also add the Wildlands to the map?
If you want, you can load up the map in the map editor and add the wild lands. Paul (the map / wild lands designer) was hoping to treat different geographies of Anthys as defacto Wildlands.
The one problem of course, with a TSL Athys map - is that some civ's start in awfully crappy spots. Tarth has neighbor to the north and south, no expansion room, and mountains on the west., for example.
please do, wildlands are one of the best ideas in FE so get some mileage out of em
Definately would like to see the Wildlands added in place of the existing Lair/or spawn placed Wild Land boss on the Anthys map, this would fix the level 1 Torax and Vertar in the existing version as well, and the fact that 2 Morians were placed on the eastern continent, perhaps it would be possible to add in The Shroud in place one of them and/or Ruins of the Imperium.
Plus please enable the Anthys map to use game settings for Resources/Shards/Monsters/Quests the existing map can feel horribly underpopulated without it.
While I purchased the Map Pack, I have thus far felt a little let down and not been very motivated to play it as I had hoped, been waiting to see some fixes from developers or the modding community at large.
Read a few entries back. There is a very simple change you can make to the map file to fix this - it improves the game play tremendously!
I totally agree about the wildlings though. Add them to the map please!
Also it shouldn't be that hard to fix the starting locations. For example I play with 16 total factions on the map... I just need to remove all but the most balanced 16 from the map file... hmmm....
Is it possible to use this pack with Legendary Heroes?
It will be in the future.
~ K
ironically, I have played lh on wildlands, which IS one of the maps in the DLC, and no I did not copy the map into the lh folders, it was already there.
harpo
So is the map pack already transferable to Legendary Heroes? If so, I'm buying it right now...
Bought the map pack a few days ago, tried out the Anthys map, ended up having very mixed feelings about it. And when I say "mixed", the mix is heavily tilted towards the negative.
So, let's see...
The Good: Huge map that is faithful to the lore.
The Bad:
1. Wildlands do not work. The bosses are there, but the Wildlands aren't functioning as they would normally. I understand that it's a "feature" of the map, it's just not a very good one.
2. Resource distribution is terrible. I've had starts where there were NO resources of any kind in my starting area. No essence, no food, no production, NOTHING.
So basically, the Anthys map is incomparably worse than, say, Curgen's Domain (which I must say was very well done).
Not happy right now.
P.S. As an aside, on two separate starts I met a PathOfTheAssassin Ceresa and PathOfTheAssassin Procipinee. That just killed my day. I know, I know, unrelated to the map pack as of itself, but still. *sigh*
Steam shows no option to get the map pack for Legendary Heroes. Is it not possible to get it for this?
not yet
Interestingly, the option does still not seem to exist, even though I 'think' I saw an ad for it on LH on the forum ads here. Slight mis-alignment of marketing and reality.
I don't have the date in front of me but the map pack for LH should go up shortly and those who bought it for FE should get it added to their account for free. Mind you, this may not happen instantly as this is an unusual way to do the thing.
thanks for the update!
I could have sworn I just saw an ad saying the Map pack DLC was available now for LH....but I can't find it now....must have been seeing things!
Well, it's been a year or two, and despite virtually all the feedback on this thread pleading for wildlands being present on the Anthys map, Anthys remains the most boring play experience possible in Elemental.
I do not generally like random maps, as there is no logic or beauty in their layouts. I like long games on big maps so my civilization has time to develop. The end result is that I am left with VERY little variety to play with. The game I would most like to play would be on the very largest map of them all, but that one is virtually empty.
I would fix this Anthys map myself, but if I try to open it in the Cartographer, it crashes the software. I would try to add the wildlands by hand (text editing the XML), but of course I don't have any idea which coordinates I should use.
<WildlandsPlacementTile>62,45,The_Shroud,90</WildlandsPlacementTile> <WildlandsPlacementTile>58,17,Asag,90</WildlandsPlacementTile> <WildlandsPlacementTile>83,48,Scrapyard,180</WildlandsPlacementTile> <WildlandsPlacementTile>88,20,Ruins_of_the_Imperium,90</WildlandsPlacementTile> <WildlandsPlacementTile>17,47,Lombard_Desert,180</WildlandsPlacementTile> <WildlandsPlacementTile>56,83,Northern_Waste,0</WildlandsPlacementTile> <WildlandsPlacementTile>88,74,Burning_Lands,0</WildlandsPlacementTile> <WildlandsPlacementTile>30,17,Bhinadmi_Fissure,180</WildlandsPlacementTile> <WildlandsPlacementTile>41,47,Pits_of_Namtur,90</WildlandsPlacementTile> <WildlandsPlacementTile>28,73,Curgens_Tomb,0</WildlandsPlacementTile>
Copy/paste would work fine, if I knew what coordinate numbers to use.
