Hey guys, been playing about 8 and a half hours into my TEC loyalist playthough and have found a problem with either my gamestyle or the advent AI.
I always play on hard mode and do not usually have a problem quashing enemy fleets with my Javelis LRM's and Kodiak Heavies. However when the Advent decide to show up, it's game over.
I'm playing as a defensive/steamroller TEC Loyalist, but even with a full large fleet, 2 starbases and fully upgraded titan, the Advent (Loyalist & Rebel) seem to quash absolutely everything in their path. I can just about hold them off, just..
Attacking them whilst not in my own turf is suicide so I tend to wait for them to attack (which doesn't take long).
I can usually smack around Vasari and have a seemingly even fight against them, however I have yet to meet their titan.
Things Noticed:
The Advent will usually come at me with their titan, a plethora of capitals and a large majority of Illuminators and Guardians, my weapons seem to not even scratch their large shields.
Advent Rebel titan (Eradica), once almost destroyed becomes invulnerable and completely anhialates the entire planet of whatever is left of my fleet, this feels rediculously OP imo.
All of my ships get hit by some ability which reduces their health to about 25%, which makes them easy pickings.
Has anyone else felt that being human in this game sucks?
Am I playing incorrectly? I have tried many fleet variations..
The advent are all about late game fleet synrgy, the TEC are about having a strong economy.
Strong economy generally means TEC excel at early game pressure and late game wars of attrition. TEC generally wins late game direct confrontations chiefly when their economy has a large lead so they can field a larger fleet.
In general this means in a late game fleet scenario the TEC fleet isn't supposed to beat the advent fleet in a direct confrontation. Playing to TEC's advantages would rather be trying to divide your opponent's attention by sending border raid w/ ogrovs to multiple systems ata time and once they have divided up(the advent fleet will lose a lot more strength from splitting up then yours as they rely on heavy synergy) their fleet make sure you have enough forces somewhere to cause casualties. Even trade are in your favor- your strong economy means a war of attrition is to your benefit.
Well to be fair I suppose some of this is less true with higher difficulty computers which cheat and gain stupid amounts of resources to work with..
Against computer you can always just build marzas and laugh as their level 6 AoE demolishes the enemy fleet(of course beign wary of anything that can interrupt it- though your titan's disruption matrix can prevent interrupts for 12 of the 20 seconds). Also computers have always been bad at dealing with massed bombers.
That said, the TEC loyalists are a bit UP atm, the TEC rebels are better off though.
As for your specific points:
1). If your weapons aren't scratching their shields there is probably a Progen mothership somewhere on the field- that is your first priority to kill ALWAYS. Make sure to disable it if it starts channeling it's shield restore(that thing swings battles hard). In general bombers are VERY strong for taking out capitalships as well.
2). The Eradica ability that makes it invulnerable only occurs when you kill it- the ship just gets to live a few minutes after dying(the invuln doesn't save the ship, just delays it's death). Moreover that is the eradica's level 6 ability, so any level 1-5 eradica won't have it. In general it's often better to kill the eradica's fleet before trying to kill it. Also, once the eradica goings invulnerable the battle is over- you've killed the enemy titan, time to pack up and leave before it wecks your fleet in it's death throes. This may come as a surprise, but many of the more experienced players think the Eradica's level 6 ability is too weak rather then too strong.
3). The ability reducing all of your ship's health is very likely the Eradica's Chastic Burst as it is the strongest AoE available to the Advent. It's also the main thing that makes the Eradica strong.
Personally I find that hard to believe, the AI usually sucks against starbases, even though the AI is building more Adjudicators now.
The Dunov's EMP blast helps with this a lot.
Its not, because you can run away whenever its activates, and the titan will still die, so its basically a wasted ultimate. Of course if you're turtling I suppose thats harder, but you can keep your fleet intact.
Quite honestly, I think you're probably just being out played. If you have double starbases this is clearly late game, which admittingly the TEC struggles at, especially against Advent. You'll need to use what really good abilities they have to the max. EMP to drain enemy titan antimatter, the Marza's missile barrage to do massive damage to an Advent battleball, and the Akkan's Armistice when you need to reposition your forces or wait for reinforcements. If needed the loyalists are also uniquely situated to take advantage of the "Red Button", or Emergency Protocol ability on their starbases. Even the advent can't tank a hit from that ability, and if they're coming from a predictable path, just place your second starbase right on the phase lane, give it that upgrade, and when they jump in blow it up in their faces. Meanwhile, keep their economy in the stone age with constant Novalith fire, which you should be gunning for ASAP as it allows you to hurt them without an actual attack.
I had trouble with the invul zombie titan for a bit, but I eventually realized that having a ion cannon colonizer ship is a great counter to this. Save armistice till the titan blows up, and pop it. The titan sits there in armistice and cant attack anything with its timer ticking down. I went from having to run away and watch it blow up all my defenses every time to getting 2 of the ships and just laughing at the titan after it blew up.
We should have Singleplayer and multiplayer forums sections.
I was so expecting a troll thread and was all oiled up.
Repair bays may help keep your forces alive for a little longer. Also, the Advent Titan has a battle ability (Chastic Burst) that damages a bunch of ships in a small-ish radius. Spreading your fleet out may help to counter this.
A Marza missile barrage coupled with some EMP bursts should mow down any advent fleet, or at least cripple it. Try to kill the Guardians first. This may sound wierd, but your Corsev Light Frigate may be helpful for this (it's sabotage ability is decent against AM-using cruisers).
Also, strikecraft are immune to chastic burst, so they may be able to give you an edge in large quantities. At least until the Advent responds with strike craft of their own...
Thanks for the help.
Things ill keep:
Priority on bombers, a few fighters to help out. Usually run bombers at a 2:1 ratio against fighters, to help crush bigger vessels.
5-10 Roboto repair ships, makes my cheap quishy ships last hell lot longer (kinda).
5-10 Command ships, nice little bonuses.
My sanity.
Things ill change:
I usually run 3 Kol's in my fleet, but they seem to die almost as fast as the Dunov and Marza (may be due to their dive-in-and-shoot-everything-that-bites-back tendencies), so I may reduce them to 2 or 1, because I like their damage output and they seem to keep the fire off of my other ships more.
I think i'll reintroduce more Marza (focus on maybe 3 or more/fleet with missile barrage) and more Dunov (2 or more/fleet with EMP burst) and will aim for more cheap Corsev lights and LRM's.
EDIT: May add a few carrier ships to help bolster my fighter/bomber fleet.
Things i'm not sure on:
Large quant of Kodiak Heavies (40-60+), whilst I love their armour and damage, I am unsure if auto-cannons are useful as lasers, rockets and beams, plus they tend to follow the Kol's into the deathpit that is Advent close-range ability hell.
2 Fighter/Bomber carrier capital ships, I think spending command points on little-bit-stronger fighters/bombers and only 3 (from lvl 1) available seems a little UP for the price.
Any more crits/ideas holla, cheers broze.
P.s. Thanks for the ainsley.
Trolling is overpowered
Glad I wasn't the only one...
weapon type doesnt matter in the slightest in combat, and only matter for which upgrades effect them. so tec units with lasers can only get a 20% boost, while autocannons 30%.
what does matter is the weapon type and armor type... light, medium, composite, and anti-light, anti-medium... and so forth... as that determains what counters what.
Build 3 Dunovs and watch how EMP reduces the advent fleet advantages to nil.
Also you can use the RED Button to do two massive AoE on him... that should hurt is fleet
Build 3 Discords and watch how Psionic Scream reduces tec counters to nill-infact open with 2 discords for lulz
Build marza and marzabait all day erry day.
I have trouble against the Advent too, when I play TECs. I have to wear them down with run-and-gun tactics, and when they're shaken enough, I figure it
3 Kols are an absolute waste. Only ever build a Kol if your opponent is massing strikecraft and even then, keep the Kol just for its Flak Burst ability.
Good idea, but remember capital ships should not make up the bulk of your fleet unless you are fighting the Vasari Rebel Titan. The Corsev is extremely good at absorbing damage and it has a powerful area damage ability which is extremely useful against enemy frigates.
The only difference between different weapon types is the availability of upgrades. However, the Advent Rebels can debuff energy weapons so in this case, autocannons and missiles are better.
Carrier capital ships are definitely worth it. The TEC's Sova Carrier can use Embargo to cripple your opponent's economy early in the game and strikecraft support is in general very strong.
Another idea (not sure if it's a good one) are Celio Command cruisers. Their designate target ability will help you when you need to assassinate Guardians (designate target gives a target a debuff that increases the amount of damage they take).
1st thing bait the advents to ur twin Argonev's and use PUSH THE <BEEP> RED BUTTON at both of em and u only got their Titan left
2nd thing just bring 2 Ralos and build 2 new Argonev's and their Titan doesn't have enough DPS for destroying ur twin new SB
Advent are extremely potent in the late game, and as such you really need to quickly attack them from the start or harass them to prevent them from teching up. If they advance too much up the research tree, killing them becomes really difficult, especially for the TEC. the vasari have an easier time with their phase missiles, buts its still no joke going head to head with a late game advent fleet.
