Stardock has said that they are working on a collector's edition for Rebellion, but have not given much details on it, except that it would be in boxed form direct from Stardock only, and that if they do decide to do it (they seem to be not sure as of yet) it will have something very big in it.
I know that this is exactly the thing I have been waiting for from Rebellion, and I am more excited for the collector's edition than I am for any of the added game play features. I was really disappointed when Stardock said that they had canceled a retail boxed edition, but I would be devastated if they did not release the collector's edition.
If they did release a collector's edition, I would be overjoyed and buy it as soon as possible. That would more than make up for the canceled retail edition, because I would always like a nice collector's edition more than a regular retail version. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to me that Stardock send Sins of a Solar Empire out with a bang (in terms of boxed awesomeness), especially as after Rebellion the next Sins of a Solar Empire will likely be a number 2, and that won't be for a long while.
That said, I have some recommendations for what to include to make this collector's edition fantastic. I was disappointed with the stuff in the regular Sins collector's edition, and saw no reason to buy it especially as I could get the sweetest part, the soundtrack CD, in the Game of the Year Edition. I don't see any need for a tech-tree poster this time (I personally think they are dumb).
These are just some shots of the (in my opinion) mildly disappointing Sins of a Solar Empire Collector's edition.
However, I feel that a new soundtrack CD is badly needed, as the additions made in the micro-expansions and now Rebellion will substantially increase the musical library of Sins. So much that it might take more than one CD to hold all of the game soundtrack. But this is exactly what I want in this collector's edition: I want the entire Sins of a Solar Empire soundtrack with all of its additions in CD form. I bought the Game of the Year edition for exactly this purpose, but now with the additions I feel it is that time when there should be a new soundtrack released. Because I do so enjoy the music of Sins of a Solar Empire.
As far as that big thing goes, what I would very much like would be a model of one of the titans or capital ships on a display stand with a little placard telling the name of the ship and "Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion" in an awesome font. What would make it even more awesome is of the ship was in its faction colors and insignia. And to top it all off, have a little hatch to open where batteries could be placed to make the ship light up.
Other things that would make the collector's edition of Rebellion great would be a big, thick manual in color containing little pictures of the ships for each faction and a little back story behind them, a great, thick paperboard box with cool screen shots and a little summary of how awesome Sins Rebellion is. I always put my favorite game boxes up on display in my room and I always read through the manual of the game when I am installing it or when I get very bored. A small, hardcover art book containing concept art of the ships and some small interviews with the concept artists would also be very nice to include.
I am very confident that Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion will be awesome, but I fear that Stardock will cancel the collector's edition merely because it would be a lot of work and a lot of money. To that I say I will pay whatever it takes to purchase one of these, even if it is $100. It better have the coolness to back its price up.
If anyone has any information about the collector's edition that I missed or has any ideas or things to say about it, feel free to post them here.
The "paper manual" sound fine and for those who don't know it ther is a .pdf manual in the rebellion game directory, but there is the Trinity manual why not update it and putting the different research? I think this will be fantastic and for my too useful.
Watching the images of this edition on facebook makes me think I want it!
just understand, you are getting Trinity Plus Titans/Corvettes and some new abilities. Fundamentally, it is the same game at its core.
That looks... Awesome! And very large indeed. A Kol model would be so epic!
That Kol looks pretty cool. I'm definitely entering the contest. I don't have a Twitter account now but I will make one just for this purpose.
where did u post it? ur pretty cute by the way lol! glad to know stardock has some cute ppl working there!
Those who preordered will be able to change to the collector's edititon, right, right? *drool*
What I'm hoping for is that those of us who pre-ordered the beta will be able to upgrade to the collectors edition. Preferably for a reduced price, since we already bought the game and would be paying only for the extra bits. Plus, telling us "No, you have to get two copies of the game" would be a bit cruel.
Oh yeah, a pewter Kol would be the coolest thing! I knew it. I am getting that collector's edition for sure, but I sure hope I can get one...
Is that Kol pewter or plastic?
the pic looks like a plastic model, but I hope the collectors edition has the FULL game on the DISC for those of us that can not get water to boil more than once.
It's resin, actually. Metal would have been very expensive (the model is quite large) and plastic seemed cheap to me.
Existing pre-order folks will get first dibs on Collector's Edition boxes while they last (we're not making very many) at cost. The plan is to make them each individually numbered too.
As a heads-up, because we won't have replacements, the plan is to ship the CE's out via FedEx. Those of you outside the U.S. should bear that in mind because shipping out of the country is ridiculous.
Estimate on how many????
Hmm... I was a talking to Yarlen on steam, and he said, "More than a few, less than a lot." asked him about making about 1k (1,000) and he said he would consider that low.
Also, you might not want to drop it, or squeeze it hard...
SSG-ImperatorPavel:I thought resin was easily breakable.SSG-ImperatorPavel: I might be wrong...: Well, I wouldn't drop it.: It won't break in your hand unless you force it.
Wow, did I have a scare there. I misread your post, ImperatorPavel, and thought that you were talking about the amount of money the collector's edition would cost. When I saw 1k (1,000) I said in my mind, "That's it. No chance of getting one." Then I thought, "Who would even pay $1,000 for a video game collector's edition?" Then I read the post again and realized you were talking about the number of copies of the collector's edition, not the cost.
On another hand, I thank you, Yarlen, for your post. It was very informative, and I am happy that the Kol is made of resin and not plastic. I, too, think that plastic is cheap and was extremely disappointed in the Skyrim collector's edition because the Alduin statue was made of PVC plastic. Very detailed and well-painted PVC plastic, but plastic nonetheless.
I also should say here, though it was said on another post, that the Kol in the picture is the hand-painted prototype model, with the offcial model that will be shipped being machine-painted. I thought that the paint job looked a bit, um, (how do I put this nicely?) cheesy. Especially where it said, in big black letters, "KOL". It looked like a black colored pencil was used to write it. I am very happy to know that the official models will be machine painted, and hopefully this "KOL" will be amended.
I am also very happy with the numbers of collector's editions you are making. It relieves some of my anxiety from looking at my email every couple hours to know that there will probably be more than 1000 copies. It is also cool that they will be numbered.
This collector's edition looks more and more awesome every time you release more information, Yarlen.
I hope I win that Twitter contest for the free collector's edition.
I've also been told by Yarlen that they will cost more that $50 USD. I don't know anything more number-wise, but at least you all have some numbers. It's better than nothing.
More accurately, I guessed a number and he told me it would cost more than that.
Silly Stardock, UPS is better.

Wow, ImperatorPavel. You are just a wealth of Rebellion Collector's Edition knowledge today.
It makes sense that it is more than $50, what with two soundtrack CDs, that cool metal box, and the Kol model alone. Who knows what else Stardock has thrown in the Collector's Edition? You might try asking Yarlen about that sometime.

Sometimes I think that I act too serious on these forums.
I might do that...
Hey, I know stuff too and I have a paypal account!
Last time I went to get something fedex'd from america to england, where I reside, it said it would cost me $60 delivery just for the ride on a boat to england, suppose I wont be getting one then.
hey just an idea for a next installment u guys could further customize soase collectors edition so you should have race specific- like really focused on tec soase collectors edition, separate advent , and vasari. all separate and if people want all 3 more$! (they all have to have different things that come with them and different design boxes too
Hey there Yarlen, few questions for you:
Can you tell us how exactly we can make sure we get a CE?
Will we be receiving emails?
Is there a list we should put our names on?
What is the expected price difference?
Can we get CEs signed by the dev team?
People who pre-ordered will receive e-mails to purchase when the time comes.
