We have had a really nice influx of new players since Sins has expanded to Steam. Member Sinperium suggested we have an "introduce yourself" thread and I thought it was a great idea.
So if you are new to Sins, come introduce yourself to the community and maybe even setup some matches!
Hi I'm TheeBaconman.
Played games of numerous genres, and generally have a main one that I get into the mood for. I was in the mood for a space 4X. I looked through information on games like Homeworld, Sword of the Stars, Galactic Civilizations, and Sins. Eventually I looked at a Let's Play for Trinity and fell in love. Started lurking the forums, combined observations on the Let's Play and the forums, and finally pre-ordered Rebellion on Steam.
Hasn't been that long since I got the beta, but I think I'm hooked. Playing SP, and enjoying the fleet slugging matches against the AI. It seems I'm here for the pretty visuals and giant battles (yay!) but eventually I think I will try more complicated and sneaky things than just attrition. Already have a few ideas from these here forums. *grins and rubs hands mischieviously*
Hello I'm ShindowLeanne.
I play Eve Online, Diablo III, Starcraft II, and a myriad of other games. Although I have been playing those for a while, the games soon lose their flavour. As if you're chewing the same gum... over and over.. Eve Online for obvious reasons *Hulkageddon* yes I'm a carebear, more of a economic person, miner in EvE and in Sins. I just pay people to kill other people for me ^^. In my spare time I usually write stories from various genres, although I am not published, I am rather confident I can make it there.
How I came to be playing video games you ask? Well in Junior high, I was bullied by multiple minorities of people. (Not the skin color type of people,) Just various groups and cults would gang up on me and make fun of me. Although I wouldn't know of how these attacks started, I knew I haven't done anything to aggravate anybody. I guess, in a sense, the group needs a punching bag. Probably you may think I'm pathetic, perhaps. Maybe I am. Months later I bought my own beast setup and began gaming, It opened a whole new world for me, where people make friends with your personality and not on how people judge on how you look. 'Judging the book by it's cover' So to speak.
Although most of you might look upon this and laugh, or make snide remarks in following posts. Atleast I come onto here and say hello to the community, hoping to be accepted into the group. During the culling of 'social status' they said, I have taken up writing and lore writing, to ignore the real world and submerge myself into a Fiction world. Writing, Writing and continuously writing. Even though I didn't intend for the writing hobby to stick, it did. I am very grateful that it has for I have come to write some works over the years that was not even read by others except myself.
Nice to meet you all and I hope we all get along

A friend and I Just bought Rebellion yesterday (haven't played Sins before). We jumped right in and were able to figure most stuff out. I'll play through the tutorials soon.I do have a few questions...
Is there an actual manual? Where can I get it (I bought the game on Steam)? How do I record a game? There's an auto record option, but what's the hot key? I can't find it anywhere. What ports are needed for hosting a game? I ended up forwarding 6000, 6001, and 6112 TCP and UDP based on various things I found via Google. Is there a way to rejoin a game if I get disconnected? It seems that whenever a player disconnects he gets wiped out. This happened once last night,, but it wasn't a big deal since we were able to load up an auto save.
Hello, I am onigi.
Look in this folder for a pdf marked manual_rebellion
C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sins of a solar empire rebellion
Can't answer the other questions though.
hey i've had sins of a solar empire since vanilla but because of time i didnt get any of the expansions, i was wondering does Rebellion come with diplomacy and entrenchment ?
Yep it has all the features from the original and previous expansions plus other new toys (titan, corvette etc.)
Hi i'm starbuck (like in the book about the white whale), and i first played sins at a LAN party (illegal copy). since i have a soft spot for good games i collect them (by buying them ) and sins actually is a game which i play more often then others. civilization too. and some shooters like bf2 and cs (don't like cod).
i like steam and the idea that it allows publishing and pricing for good indie games more easily.
my first bought game was zak mckracken...
currently i'm living in northqueensland in australia next to the beach and enjoy my holidays - with playing sins.
i think it's sad that impulse became gamestop and i also think that stardock should have started publishing through steam earlier, they would have had a lot more attention with their and IC's games and success too (except from elemental, war of magic which is complete crap and i deeply regret preordering it, but through that i learned to never preorder a game again).
i really liked the creative conversations in the Trolls is back thread, very entertaining
cheers
Hey everyone. I am Urgrago. I have been a Sinaholic for this past weekend
I remember hearing about Sins back when it came out. At the time I didn't have a good gaming PC, so even if I wanted to go out and grab it, my computer would crap out lol. I don't know what or how I got knowledgeable of Rebellion(maybe Steam), I am so glad I did. This game is spectacular. I would say it's the best strategy game I've played. I just need to get good at it D:
If anyone wants to add me on Steam, my ID is Theodore Roosevelt.
Hi, my name's Sula. I bought SSE a couple of days ago. So far I'm struggling to learn anything even with the tutorials. Like others my disk doesn't contain a copy of the pdf manual. It just has a picture of the front cover.
Can anyone advise me please, where I can obtain a copy? I tried downloading a different pdf reader but no luck. It's just the front cover I have on my disk. Also, I tried registering my copy but the only SSE I could find was something called Trinity and it's not what I have. Not sure that matters though. I don't have to register it but I'd like to if anyone can tell me how.
Thanks
Hey I'm...
<--- This Guy.
Had SSER for a few days now, and am still trying to get used to managing and fighting speeds in such huge scale maps. RTS's were never my strong point but whatever, I'll learn. So far I have deducted that this game is evil, as I literally played all Saturday playing one or two games of this and still enjoying it... The WoW of RTS I swear. Anyway, I'm extremely fond of carriers and other fighter bearing class ships because I have a thing for the little stunt planes doing massive huge burst damage, but after about 4-5+ carriers, or around 25 squadrons, the amazing trails of light that are Oh-So glorious in a cinamatic viewpoint is lost. Hope someone on the forums knows a way to give the trails back to the strike craft no matter the numbers. Other thing I learned about carriers is that while they are beasts early and mid game, the long and slow strafing runs really really pound on DPS, so when outnumbered or if a ship is tanking a LOT of damage from bombers, the carriers lose their spark big time. Still trying to find which ships are best to support large strike craft fleets to fill that gap, but I only played so many rounds so far. So far I'm all for the Advent Rebels, not lore-wise, just playability wise. Not a fan that they seem to "force" their culture upon people and willingly and blindly follow the word of the unity, whatever that is. But they have 3 strike craft fleets per carrier so meh.
Hope to have a lot of fun with this game, just really want to see my fighters have the light trails behind them when an army of 700 strike craft fly toward the enemy. (I think 7 ships per squadron right? Gotten a bit above 100 squadrons in several games so that's 700 fighters and bombers.)
Hello there,
My name is Dana. DMN are my initials. I am a total Sins newcomer. Bought the game after hearing about it on "Quarter to Three" and "Gamers With Jobs" podcasts. I'm a total sucker for space games and 4X games.
I'm mostly interested in the single player skirmishes because I'm pretty horrible at RTS. I tend to freeze up.
This community looks wonderful at a glance and I look forward to coming here for lots of good advice and play tips.
Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.
Hi, my name is Justincj and I am totally new to Sins, and I am totally and utterly enraptured. I'm still trying to get the hang of managing my fleets. (I originally started playing against the AI on huge, sprawling maps.) Now, however, I learned that the best place to learn is on a small map, where I have less to manage and less fronts to defend against.
I did try a little multiplayer, but I quickly fell behind. I was still trying to colonize while other ppl were building starbases!
Is this the kind of game where the more I play, the better I'll get? Or will I always be the weak link?
Btw, if it matters, I favor TEC Loyalists.
4 sure the more u play the better u get, watch some mp replays and see what some of the more advanced players do and youll learn allot!
Hey! Just picked up Sins Rebellion!
Im just learning the game atm, having some problems with pirates in easy AI matches- cant seem to understand how i am to build up any kind of fleet to withstand their attack on me planet!
Seems like i have a long way ahead of me! Cant wait to dig into the mechanics abit more!
Always been a fan of the game genre and i finally made my way into it!
GG
Hi everyone.
My name is Ole and I've been into Sins for a year and a half, though this last half I haven't played due to being in China (where I currently am). I only ever played it against the AI because I frankly though nobody was playing it online and by a happy coinsidence when I received my Stardock newsletter I somehow bewildered and drunk ended up on these forums and realised I could be playing it online! So I will be, when I get back to Denmark "from whence I hail"? sometime early August. Hope to be playing with some of you there.
Im 27 years of age and currently majoring in Chinese language, culture and history. (the last two are more interesting than they sound.. really, they are). I have a thing for all things space. I played EvE online since mid 2003, GalCiv2, masters of orion 2, privateer 2 (lots of two's arent there ? ) and many more. I also do freelance translation to and from Mandarin to make a little on the side to support those dreams I have...
I probably suck on something awfull when it comes to multiplayer but I am the kind of person who can't control myself when it comes to learning new things, I dig and dig and dig till I get it. Despite my handicap I hope you will all receive me well and help me improve so we can have some fun together.
Peace
New to sins, looking for people to play with.. my steam ID is hub3123 add me.
Hi there im brand new to computer games in general and generally have only played C&C and supremem commander and Star Wars the old Republic but saw this game game on steam and thought i would give it a try now call me a moron or wotever but i picked up the basics of this game but cannot for the life of me seem to win now i build a capital ship some frigates and the basic stuff u need to get started but before i can do anything the enemy either attack me or have all other planets colonized and i cant do anything and thats on easy and its really annoying me coz i really want to be able to play this game properly coz it looks really good and fun can anyone give me a few suggestions on how to get started quickly and everything else thanks

Hi I am Rabidturnip.
I play a lot of multiplayer online games. My main one besides SOASE Rebellion is World of Tanks in one of the best clans there DPS. My favorite genre has always been RTS. I figured I had missed out on the original soase multiplayer so was a big fan of the DOW2 series and BFME2. I heard that Sins multiplayer was good from Anandtech. So when I heard Rebellion was coming and had multiplayer features I thought this would be a good place to join. Soase original was a blast but stopped playing after about 60 hours of singleplayer gameplay thinking the multiplayer would be too long.
I hope to be here for the long haul as a good pc game usually lasts about 2 years before looking at upcoming releases and expansions. Thanks for having me in all the games so far. Scouring the wiki and strat sites for this game so hope to be competitive asap.
Hello I am Namaris
Looking forward to battling it out online
snip
I bid you all a good day
I am Nytraxs, and I have only recently (and by "recently" I mean yesterday) acquired this gem. Hence, I am what you would call a noob at sins (for the time being). I have only yet played 2 hours of the game and whilst I was extremely fond of my staggering, whopping 4 planets (!!!), this feeling swiftly turned into horror when I found out my nifty medium AI opponents had about 40 planets at that point in time. It does seem starting with huge maps is, as mentioned on numerous threads on the forums, not the smartest way to begin as a recruit
To explain how novice and well prepared I started, let me point out that I bought and also gifted Trinity for myself and my neighbor just to find out that Rebellion was stand-alone once I stumbled upon these forums about 15 minutes after my first game (I was going to find out how I had so horribly failed in keeping up with the AI). Alas, me and my neighbor now own a version of Trinity each and both installed Rebellion last night. I am sure the devs will use my money spent wisely to continue balancing the game for us.
I am a bit of a RTS vet. I used to play Dune 2 competitively (as far as one could speak about competitive gameplay back in those days of play) followed by the entire C&C series. Then moved on to Dota (the original mod for WC3) and more or less hovered there for a while until moving over to League of Legends when it came out. Trying to be true to my loyalties, I have acquired Dota2 on Steam yesterday since I believe the LoL community being slightly below par when it comes to maturity (understatement).
The latter bringing me to an interesting and compelling point I wanted to make: reading these forums has already convinced me that I will become a regular on these forums and this game, and all this, before even being close to understanding the game concept. You guys are in my opinion the most mature, helpful community I have seen online thus far (and "thus far" does mean for more than 15 years of online gaming), maybe only equalled by the original Planetarion community in rounds 1-6 (does anyone remember that?).
I apologize for digressing this much.
TL;DR I am new, I spent too much money because I am an idiot, and I brought a friend. We are both noobs but do hope to meet all of you in a couple of weeks' time online.
Welcome aboard.
I'm Samaz. Despite everything I do, I'm a nice guy -just prone to dropping A-bombs on people at random. I was a newbie about 4 years back and never got into the MP aspect, but damn if modding isn't fun. Learned a little here and there about the inner workings of the game with Danman giving pointers and just love the modding more than the vanilla off the shelf play.
Gamer since the days of ordering 5¼ floppies.
Kaun2 here new to Sinsd Rebellion and new to strategy games like this. It diffently is a challenge to learn. I played Battlestar Galactica for awhile. Wnated something differnt. So here I am. Been searching the web for tips on how to play AI 1v1 on small map. No luck so far. If any1 knows of a site to help guide me let me know.
